You don’t need to avoid aquifers, just be sure to smooth the walls and floors above and the rocks won’t leak into your rooms. Water leaks through walls and ceiling tiles. Constructed walls are also water tight.
@KokoplaysMB2 жыл бұрын
This is a video for beginners, it would be smart to avoid them in their first base until they learn more about the game.
@Kindlesmith702 жыл бұрын
oh? I've never had them leak through a ceiling. Two alternatives. Mine out all of the wet blocks so they stop producing water. Create 2 tile thick walls over the wet blocks. A third alternative is to make a pit long enough downwards that the water just becomes mist instead. This would require not many aquifer blocks exposed though.

If you want some more in depth tutorials there is a channel called blind that made a really good 10 part series where he goes through the entire lifespan of a fort and explains each step in the process of what he does. Also, don't be afraid to just hop in and mess around a bit. Making mistakes is part of the fun in DF
@Kindlesmith702 жыл бұрын
You wish leather is good for armor for any dwarf. :D Sure it is better than nothing, but still is quite inadequate, even for dwarves that are intended to shoot as they love to engage the enemy in melee when possible. Probably a good point to have added is if you are going for missile troops to give them designated zones to fire from, and not open ground for them to charge at the enemy. Also, don't put arrows in containers. Same with seeds. ugh there's so much to this game that needs more in depth tips. You could mention dogs and pigs are the best animals to begin with since they only need a pen zone which can be anywhere as they don't need grass. You could also mention that the moment you open up a cave underground all floor tiles that are not stone will begin to grow fungus and moss which count as 'grass' for purposes of grazing animals. Trade merchants require 4 tile open ground to move their caravans to the depot. If they can't they will only bring their animals, thus have less goods to sell and less carry weight to accept. Learn to make drawbridges. These a practically impervious doors to invaders. Perfect for fortress entrances. A well is a requirement for some rooms which is perfect if you can utilize an aquifer for - infinite water source underground. If you make a tavern, you risk more thieves and unwanted trouble into your fortress if you allow all to access it. Switch it to residents, and citizens only or citizens only to avoid this. As a noobie you don't want to have to deal with early issues of outsiders freely welcomed inside your fortress. I mean there's a LOT of things to take into consideration. Blind has a channel that includes some in depth aspects of the game. I've never gotten to the stage of making metal products, as I never dig deep enough. Generally some game bug screws the game up making it no longer fun to play. Losing is fun when the game is running as intended, not due to bugs :/ (like dwarves ceasing to do work, dying of dehydration when there is ample drink, enemies immune to falling damage, archers running into melee, trade depots not getting emptied, no digging upwards, dwarves unable to use more than one ammo type, oh the list goes on and on)

Great video I'm new to the game but still looking for that umph to kick in. As of now, to me, it seems like rimworld only with 100 extra steps. Maybe a video regarding the Z levels would be nice. That seems to be the thing that separates this colony Sim from others
@KokoplaysMB16 күн бұрын
Well DF is the precursor of all the colony sims, RimWorld took the best from it and dialed it down to where you care more about the individual while in DF you can focus more on building an actual empire etc.
@Jacob_8816 күн бұрын
@KokoplaysMB yeah, that makes sense. I'm glad they're still updating it. Adventure Mode sounds great. In DF I just get stuck on what to do. I keep growing my stockpile and building workbenches and farms and such. And it's all been pretty boring But youre right, I have a lot habits from rimworld I need to break. @roetemeteor2 жыл бұрын
Don't dig too deep. Honestly, once the circus is in town, it's usually too late. Best you can hope for is to wall off the shaft and pray they don't make it up there in time. Edit: to be entirely honest, in the future, you shouldn't even be dreaming of cotton candy until you've got a well-trained military, equipped in full Steel with steel Edge weapons, and silver blunt weapons, if not flat out Platinum if you could accomplish that. Clowns are absolutely no joke, and they will decimate anyone not ready for the cosmic joke. It's better to even have a drawbridge setup for the dedicated fun shaft so if you mess up, you can have someone pull the lever and minimize your losses to a few unwashed peasants with pickaxes. No matter what happens, always remember, losing is fun!

Man, the base of the game is made in ASCII, the engine works as it can. Everything that you are seeing in the gameplay its an official texture pack from the steam version which works adove an ASCII base (Dwarf frotress classic, which is free and it's literal the same game of steam but with ascii graphics). Trying to port the game right now to a new engine after 20 years of work to make the animaions fluid would be impossible and not rentable in any way. This game it's one of the more complex games I have seen in terms of coding and systems, how everything interacts with everything on a fluid and natural way, and how you need to adapt yourselves constantly to how the world evolves in its own way. It's normal that the game has bugs, because it's impossible to control everything on a game of this magnitude. Think that much less conplex games like skyrim, the witcher or almost other open world game will be always super buggy in certain conditions because of the quantity of things that are happening on the world at the same time, now, think that those are games from big companies and this is a game made by 2 brothers over 20 years with ton more of complexity in the behaviour of everything which only recieved money via voluntary donations. It's pretty normal. (from the maybe 50h I have been playing I didn't ebcountered any gamebreaking bug in general, only some bug in UI and HUD which was solved simply reopening that specific menu).

@yomismo268911 күн бұрын
@jeepsblackpowderandlights4305 yeah, you need to understand so much everything to follow whats happening. I'm starting to learn how to do it right now in general terms and mainly pausing the game lots of the time to analyze everything that I need to analyze. I think that part of the beauty of this game are those moments of pausing it, and start digging on something that it's not going how you expect to discover what is hapoening and why it's happening like that. If you have it on your library, maybe you can look also the new game mode released yesterday, the adventure mode, which it's more like going arround the world and make your own adventure. (like a roguelike build inside of Dwarf Fortress)
