19th August: The CBI asked a Kolkata court for permission to conduct a polygraph test on Sanjay Roy, one of the key suspects.
20th August: The Supreme Court set up a 10-member committee to create a national protocol to ensure doctors' safety. They also asked the West Bengal government and Kolkata Police to submit a report on the case.
21st August: Kolkata Police suspended three officers involved in vandalizing RG Kar Hospital. The hospital’s security was handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). In an interview, a sex worker from Kolkata’s Sonagachi red-light area urged men to visit the area instead of resorting to rape.
22nd August: The Supreme Court criticized Kolkata Police for delays in handling the case. They also urged protesting doctors across India to return to work, which they did. The CBI requested polygraph tests on more suspects.
23rd August: The court allowed a polygraph test on Sanjay Roy, who cried in court, claiming he was innocent. Protests were held in Kolkata demanding a swift investigation.
24th August: The CBI labeled Sanjay Roy as a "sexual pervert" after a psychological analysis. They also found CCTV footage of Roy staring at the victim a day before the incident. Meanwhile, sex workers from Sonagachi refused to provide soil for making Durga idols in protest.
25th August: The CBI searched RG Kar Hospital and several individuals’ homes for financial irregularities. Polygraph tests were conducted on Roy and other suspects, with Roy reportedly giving false and unconvincing answers.
26th August: Protests erupted in Kolkata, demanding CM Mamata Banerjee’s resignation. Clashes broke out between protesters and police, leading to injuries. The CBI announced plans to send DNA and forensic reports to AIIMS Delhi for expert analysis.
27th August: A 12-hour "Bangla bandh" was called by the BJP in response to the police actions against protesters. Both TMC and BJP announced street protests demanding justice. The West Bengal cabinet approved a new Anti-Rape Bill, and concerns over women’s safety led to the launch of a self-defence program for female medical staff in Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu also commented on the case, stressing the need for societal change to prevent such crimes.
