I went through few of the comments here where one has said that West Bengal's doctors dont protest etc and then the argument of regionalism arose I am cutting the crab and what i want to say is-this incident has to be a wake up for our hibernating doctor's fraternity I might be hitting few sensitive nerves,but i think it is what it is To begin-We as a fraternity are stooping&this aches me to say that we have innumerable issues to address that our medical profession goes through Primarily,we all need to knock ourselves and become humans I say this because do we care about the atrocities that the junior doctors go through? Everyone is just saving his own shares Do we stand by our colleague who faces discrimination from their senior doctors while pursuing their postgraduation-the so called venomous conspiracies done to bring down a student in forms of various ways of ragging(sadly-we dont as we think"why should i care-the senior is not behind me,uff i am safe") Recently i was discussing with one of my colleagues regarding the methodology followed by the nbems in conducting the neet pg exam be it postponement, preponement,out of the blue change of pattern etc-I was telling him that our medical system needs a reform in huge ways: The demeaning ragging of the freshers done by few seniors,the work ethics& etiquette to be followed by everyone, everyone i mean everyone right from mbbs first year students till the senior most teaching and non teaching doctors There should certainly be a decorum to be followed in terms of addressing your subordinates in a subtle manner rather yelling at them in the presence of the non medical staff,I respect and adore my seniors,but there is a thin line in the working environment which needs to be maintained in addressing the juniors' fault On duty doctors are just machines who should never stop working&we don't deserve decent restrooms,right? The doom part is where the senior doctors dont stand for their juniors&instead get along with the hospital management and administration politics&bring their juniors down Someone told me that"Hey!we are less in number so our voices will anyways go unheard"-this literally disguised me&made me think that where are we heading? We are already tired of protesting against the nbems,the safety of the doctors while they are moblynched by patient's party&i say this again sadly that our senior doctors who are associated with certain institutions say"Nothing is under our control,so let things be the way they are" Our superiors listen to the tittle tattles conveyed by the hospital management people&actions are being taken accordingly to the message conveyed by the administration Every individual department in the hospital puts the doctor at fault for whatsoever&the doctor does not even get a chance to present his side Why are we doing this to each other,why cant we all stand together in whatever wrongdoings we face/see? This being an era of artificial intelligence,if we become extinct as a fraternity,dont we all need to be a single voice rather than thinking"main kyu padhu jhamele mein,i am a senior practicing doctor,let the academics&its associated exams run the way they want to" I feel disgusted at times to see that our superiors being doctors in highly placed organisations dont address or acknowledge the problems Instead of blaming& bringing down&not standing for each other,the mysterious death of the pgt arises massive concerns& before its too late,I hope,that someday we all stand united Lastly,I pray that the deceased victim gets justice!
