Few more solutions: 1. Make ethics subject compulsory in schools. People are becoming less empathetic day by day. 2. Spread propaganda (through TV and social media) to not commit corruption or a crime. _____ Personal opinion: As said in the video, crime is an outcome, the prior causes are complex like acceptance of corruption, patriarchy, etc. We should focus on breaking the chain of events that causes crime. What I believe is that, the root cause is the lack of empathy. No empathatic person can commit a crime. It doesn't make sense. Some people have inherent higher degree of "empathy", but some people are not that much privileged. Empathy is partly genetically inherited, but empathy is necessary component to not commit a crime. However, empathy can also be learned. How do we learn? Parents, schools, and media. These are our ecosystem. We must propagate empathy through media so that anyone can learn it. ____ Another opinion on death penalty as a solution: Fear is not something that stops the crime, it's the empathy. Suppose there is a man say S, he's in the highest authority in the system. He can commit a crime without anyone knowing. Why wouldn't he commit a crime if he can never be caught? For him, fear of death is eliminated. One thing that can stop him is his ability empathasize. Fear of death is there, but only for poor people, not for everyone.
