Kolkata Rape-Murder: BJP's Locket Chatterjee Among Several Detained, Heavy Police Deployment In City

Tensions flared in Kolkata on Friday as police entered the Karunamoyee metro station to disperse BJP workers who had gathered as part of the Mahila Commission Avhiyan. The protest was organized in response to the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar hospital, which has sparked outrage across the city.
Members of the BJP women's cell were detained from various locations in Kolkata's Salt Lake area as they attempted to assemble for the protest. Among those detained was BJP leader Locket Chatterjee, who was taken into custody near Nicco Park. Police officers were deployed in large numbers across the Salt Lake area to prevent protesters from gathering in one place, effectively disrupting the planned march towards the State Women's Commission.
