I bought one of these for a major pallet wood wedding project - it is an EXCELLENT tool. I used a 5 gallon bucket also and filled it about a 1/3 full of water to somewhat slow and capture the nails so they wouldn't ricochet. It worked great.

This tool is absolutely worth the money. I believe I ordered mine for like $50 or $60. It makes nail removal so easy that my 7 year old who loves to do projects with me can clean boards just as quick as I can break down the pallets.

I would absolutely NOT let my 7 yr old play with a tool like this. If he pointed it at another kid's head and pulled the trigger that driver would go thru the skull and you would be in jail for both child abuse and criminal negligence. No matter how responsible they look working alongside Dad, kids do stupid things, impulsive things, especially boys! Do not let him near this deadly tool. Yikes! Instead, raise your pallets on two boards, and give him a rubber mallet to hit the boards below so they disengage from the pallet. Also works with a block of wood. He will be safe, and he will do all the bending so you spare your back. I would work far from him with this air tool. Your wife will never forgive you if anything happens to him.

This is one of those tools that is worth it more than just in time saved today... compound all the hammering prying and cursing over the years and you've got a torn rotator cuff in your shoulder, missing an eye from that time things got crazy with the prybar, and a cuss jar larger than the Titanic. Looking ahead to look back, this is a tool that pays you back from the future. That tool is much cheaper than I was expecting, too!

Fill the bucket 2/3 full of water and there's zero chance the nails will ricochet out of even that small slot. This also means you have a heavier, more stable platform to do your de-nailing.

I LOVE my Airlocker. I've used it for 3-4 years and have removed thousands of nails from the pallet. I have pulled over 200 pounds of nails using it. I use two sawhorses with a large trash can under them with an old Blue Tarp in the can. This prevents the nails from bouncing around the shop. I'm not too fond of your method because you must spend more time aligning the nails with the small hole you cut. The pallets I am taking apart have almost 200 in them and I usually take apart 3-4 pallets at a time so any additional time alignment to a small hole translates to a lot more work time. I also prefer using Crowbars instead of the pliers you use. I use a 3-footer on the 10-16 penny nails and a 2-footer on smaller ones. They are a lot quicker and require less effort to pull the nail. IF you can find it, pick up a "Kwickgripper", this tool will pull rusted, headless nails out of old oak pallet stringers. Finding one is the challenge.

Compare to using an SDS hammer drill with a cheap hex adapter - works about the same. If you're doing a lot of recycling and have a compressor handy - go for it. But I'm going back to the hammer and the pincer-puller or the plier-puller for the small boards bc I'm basically cutting the big nails flush and leaving them in the 2x's and bigger - it's utility and project lumber after all. And nails come out easy in the 1/2" wood that pallets use. I'm using a 28# Bauer SDS Max 18ftlb hammer drill with a 1" chisel to do the mean work - which is a work out trying to get it out - but I'm thinking seriously about building a hydraulic seesaw press (that you stand on) bc I'm loving the 8-10 ft 3x3, 2x4, 2x5's that I'm getting out of motorcycle pallets - 4 to 6 per.

Invaluable tool for reclaiming wood..I use a 55g barrel(can use metal or plastic)and filled bottom of barrel with few inches of wood shavings (to absorb water the nail.)Made wood too much as you did..and keep it outside shop and very ergonomic don’t have to bend over..started with a livestock mineral tub but either had to set it on something or bend over..(and the latter not so good at end of day if doing large amounts)..good and to the point video

I break down pallets .... manually ... Without the Air Locker tool (I need one of these !!) , the most reliable way I have found is using the pliers (I have a pair of Chanel Lock) - The mechanical advantage you get makes all the difference and if the heads are destroyed it doesn't matter, you just have to not squeeze hard enough to cut the nail off....perhaps the DeWalt tool doesn't actually cut them off I don't know. A mill faced framing hammer works best if you have to do any driving from the pointy end, or using the claw side of that to twist the nail back to a straight enough condition to hit and push the head end out enough to grab

You could always trace where your board sits on the bucket and router it out so it holds itself on the bucket like a lid

Yep looks good except for any pallet I've grabbed are nailed together with annular ringed shanks. Needless to say you will split wood using a pry bar trying to separate the boards. Yep I know use a reciprocating saw then airlocker.

You can also use a piece of foam or even wall insulation To catch the nails.

I put dirt in the bottom of the bucket so there's something in there to lessen the chance of rebound

My wife got me one of these and I found it a bit deceiving because it's advertised as a Nailer and NOT a nail Remover. Until she brought it home i never even knew they sold an air nail remover. So I've been watching KZbin seeing it ANYONE actually uses it as a Nailer to see how that works and clearly everyone uses it for nail Removal. Anyway I guess I can't complain because she got it for only $7 from a store that sells Amazon Returns and surprisingly it came with everything it was supposed to the instructions, the spare pin, the Alan wrench and even the little bottle of oil.

An inverted cardboard box placed over the bin does a good job and no wasted MDF. Throw some dead nails into the bucket to stop nails bouncing around.

I wish they would make a smaller one. I have the one you show in the video and it works grate for most stuff but I tryed using it for old reclaim lath slats and all it dose is miss the nail and brake the lath

Hi love the review although I have one question (I bother asking because I see you are responsive in the comments): Will it remove the tiny-short very very thin nails, that are almost like needles? I have 5 mm plywood with lots of nails to reclaim and I'm worried it will bend the nail on impact before it drives it out. I can put something around the nail to protect the ply I guess.

If your talking about Brad nails it depends on their thickness. The thicker ones it will but pin nails it will bend over. You best bet is to get a pair of nail pullers like you see me you in the video. The yellow ones and that works really well

Hi love the video after watching I purchased a airlocker ap700 from Amazon great thing at first then it started to jam up in the nozzle not with quiet large nails it worked awesome but with small thin gauge it just keeps jamming up in the nozzle I've had to completely strip the gun down at least 50/60times now it seems to me that the ram ie the rod that does the pushing of the nail is to thin and could be a bit thicker tbh and now sadly I've only gone and lost apart ie the round black rubber driver guide and its going to cost a small fortune to get to the UK sadly not sure what to do if I am honest any way love you're videos awesome keep up the good work all the best lindsay 😎😎

@@KomarProject even w heads, we'd lightly tap back & nip or cut w dremel & pull. Keeps tool marks off the face. I do a ton of "repair" work so finish blending is always prominent in my mind. One of the biggest issues I have is removing T1-11 and I have tried every nail puller out there. Would this tool be strong enough to drive the nail (head side) holding siding through the siding (into the stud) so the siding can be removed.

I have some 2x4s from some pallets that I've been trying to get nails out of for a while. The nails are in the 2" side not the 4" so hammering them in more wont help. When i try to pull these nails they just break as theyre so rusty. What do you suggest?

Are you pulling them with a puller, a hammer, or are you pushing them with the air tool? If they're breaking, I'd try the opposite approach to see if the nails hold together. If you were pulling them and the heads were breaking off, then try pushing them through and vise versa.
