Kombucha Scoby Forming - The Creature from the Deep
I've gone back and forth on whether or not to show you this next video, fearing that some would watch, get scared, and never want to drink kombucha again! However, I love this video so much and I think it's just too awesome not to share with you. As the new SCOBY forms on top, watch closely as the strands of yeast reach down like little arms and grab ahold of the original SCOBY. Then the arms start to pull the SCOBY back up to the top of the jar.

I love kombucha so much. Here in Ireland I have new batch of kombucha done every 3 days so often giving it away as I have a gallon brewing vessel. Keeping few jars of saurkraut in my fridge at all times and nearly every day milk kefir. Learned to make sourdough off you, Donna. Also I got 2 yogurt cultures from your store❤ my family and church are all so blessed by what you do Donna. Big thank you! 🇮🇪

That's my favorite part of making kombucha! Coffee kombucha is also amazing to watch.

It took about a month for my scoby to develop. I started with just tea, sugar and a bottle of unflavored, unpasturized kombucha that I had bought. My scoby now gives me a gallon of wonderful kombucha tea every two weeks.

Yes, that is so creepy. My kombucha scoby grew to be the width of a basketball and insanely thick. It was like a living breathing animal in the kitchen. It felt like an alien creature of the deep -- demanding to be serviced and fed every few days. After awhile, I couldn't deal with it anymore. No one wanted it because it was so darn ugly. So, it went to its final demise -- into my backyard compost bin. I still enjoy kombucha but I buy it from the grocery instead. I prefer my homemade milk Kefir. Much easier. And it doesn't look like a monster from Hell.
