1992 Kona Cinder cone build. Bought the frame bare and had to do quite a bit of work to get it up and running. Don’t quite like the geometry on this frame. The angle is too slanted to make use as a commuter/everyday bike. Same reason I got rid of my explosive and replaced with a (you’ve never heard of before) Starway.

i'm watching this again a year later as I just scored a swell 1992 Kona FireMountain almost stock . Your grey tires remind me of a late 90's build I did using a late 80's Meile i had repainted burgandy after bodyfilling and then smoothin out the welds. they grey tires made it pop. Cheers !

@@atboy4342 yes, both 90's bikes and the tires. the cheapest tires i have ever owned were the grey Kenda's at 13 bucks each. but i had to have them for the bike.

I would deffo put a brace on that handlebar, a riser handlebar with brace looks good!

Nice project though you definitely need to shorten the chain if you intend to keep this bike. I'm surprised that you use that allen key tool rather than having separate ones which are much better to work with. Great job with the paintwork given the state it was in.

I’ve got PB swiss, Stahlwille and unior sets. My decathlon one I found in the street is more practical to use

You can get cable stop clamps instead of the seat clamp you used. Given the orientation of the hole, you'd need to use it on the top tube instead.

Hi, I edited the part of the video mentioning the problem solver /origin8 clamp. Find it quite quite ugly, but mainly, I could not find one in france. Had to order from uk or states= shipping was 34 euros plus 12 dollars or whatever. Totale 50 dollars. As opposed to me make this for free…

I like these build videos. Just a metal sponge took off the black spray paint? Did you have spray any solvents on it?

Guessing the person before used some ar spray paint, which is quite thin

great turn around on the paint especially the chain stay ... what did you use in the end? Just finishing off a Cinder Cone myself in the same colour. its very rare colour.

It’s shown in another video. Essentially, I used a aluminium mastic, and used a black paint that was the closest to the original colour. Black is fairly forgiving compared to other colours.

9:14 arent v brake and canti brake rims the same? Cant you use cantis on any type of rim or is there a difference in rim typeS?
@atboy4342
@atboy4342 Жыл бұрын
You can definitely interchange. I find rims with more surface area and wider are better suited for canti’s. It looks like with the arrival of VB’s, rims became thinner. Reversely when I use Vbs on wider rims, they have to stick out more.

@@atboy4342 ah yes, I too noticed that cantis brake fantastic on wider box section rims even if the surface is messed up

Nice find, I believe seat post clamp iz 30mm for that kona, and seatpost is 27.0mm. Edit: i just watched the video, and I see that seatpost is 26.4, very odd diametar.
@atboy4342

Yeh, though Kona is canadian. 26.4 is a standard french post size
