Kona Diving - Lax Dive Site | Kona Honu Divers

We hopped aboard the Honu Lele our premium long range charter boat to check out one of Kona's best dive sites LAX. LAX dive site is special because it can only be reached by dive boat and often is subject to strong currents. This makes diving it challenging but the coral seems to love it! The water in Kona has been warmer than normal so we decided to take a look at how the coral has fared at one of our favorite big island dive sites.

Love this site. It has possibly the best coral on the island. Plains of pillar coral. There was a massive mu pile of around 40 Mu! We visit it on our Premium Advanced 2 Tank Dive. www.konahonudivers.com/kona-diving-morning-advanced-2-tank-dive.htm

Where is LAX dive spot located

It's north of Kona just south of Kua Bay and north of Kehaka Kai state beach. It's not easily accessible from shore.

Hawaii = mostly dead coral. it's hard to look at. at least the mounding coral seems to have been spared. i wish I could have seen it 25 years ago after i got my NAUI card but it never occurred to me to go see Hawaii.

Especially the cauliflower corals. brown lifeless husks. but it's not just Hawaii. Look at the bleaching and death in this recent video from Tahiti: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXOkaYB3rb-JeNE the way I see it, by now very few places haven't been thrashed. the resilient places include American Samoa and of course Palmyra atoll. Hopefully Hawaii DAR management plans eg. 30 - 30 can develop enough resilience in the local ecosystem to survive all the warm water that is coming. I love Hawaii good luck trying to convince people to ignore it. better to just educate them to what is happening, either way it won't really affect your business
