Концерт А.Рубинштейна (1964)

Покойный Н.Петров рассказывал, как он посетил Рубинштейна в Метрополе перед этим концертом и играл ему. Артур Игнатьевич был очень любезен, все одобрил, а его супруга спросила Петрова сколько он перед эти занимался. "Больше двух часов" - скромно ответствовал молодой пианист. "Вот видишь, а ты совсем не играл - обратилась она к мужу-, а вечером у тебя концерт". "А какая у Вас программа?" - спросил Рубинштейна Петров. "Я ещё не решил, но,вероятно, это будет Шопен". Этот ответ поверг Н.Петрова в изумление. "Какое же надо иметь самообладание, опыт, память, технику, наконец, чтобы накануне ответственнейшего концерта в БЗК перед строгой московской публикой позаолить себе такое. И это в 77 лет!!!" . Действительно, фантастика! Феноменальный уровень пианизма, пламенность и юношеская влюблённость в музыку, в Шопена, полная отдача себя любимому искусству. Да , Рубинштейн забыл текст во 2-й части шопеновской сонаты , но это нисколько не портит впечатления, а воспринимается как тени на картинах старых мастеров. Браво, Маэстро! Сейчас мало кто способен на такое.

Потрясающий пианист. Почему-то о нем не слишком часто говорят. Какая мужская воля, и это в таком возрасте. Мне , думая об этом, поневоле приходит в голову, что он представлял из себя как мужчина. Нет, я не слишком рзабочена этим моментом.

What a great climax to the first movement of the sonata, 27:00! He certainly is getting his whole body into it. It looks like the end of the concert! At the end, 27:50, he starts to shake his head vigorously. It must because the audience is clapping (I would have done the same), and he is telling them the sonata is not done. Then he starts the next movement with the same vigor. Yes, he started when he was a boy, was playing concerts all of his life, and perhaps playing the piano was as natural to him as walking, but he definitely qualifies as an old man by this time - what is the source of his vigor and emotion and stamina besides his musical intelligence? This is a prime example of outstanding career achievement into old age. It seems that pianists have a longer career longevity than other musicians or other people. People often when they get older turn to more passive activities even in their career, and do less of it. But here he is performing his craft in front of a large public audience, there is no hiding, no studio recording tricks. An honest and transparent display of mastery.

Staggering playing, especially the F sharp minor Polonaise, so much greater than the hackneyed A flat, and his positioning at the keyboard. those who study the Alexander Technique posture say that Rubinstein was their ultimate aim in posture, hence he was the most natural of all pianists, no stress, huge hands, unbelievable soul, what could possibly go wrong? Nothing ever did. What a career, what a life.

Arguably the greatest of all Rubinstein videos, absolutely marvelous phrasing throughout, starting with the opening F# minor polonaise and Gb impromptu. Even with the distorted sound, his playing is totally captivating and unforgettable.

Amazing playing and musicianship! Have you ever ever heard a better rendering of the 3. impromtu than this? The architecture is so clear, yet the rythm is entirely free and unforced..like a butterfly...totally unique.. Amazing!!! And the combination of masculinity, drama and at the same time supreme sensuality in the 2. sonata is so awe-inspiring...Rubinstin still reigns supreme!!

В конце концерта Рубинштейн сказал: "Я так тронут, мне так хорошо здесь играть что я приеду обратно" но это вырезали. После ввода Советских войск в Чехословакию он больше в СССР не приезжал

Имеется в виду фильм Сказание о земле сибирской, где Антона приписывают к улице Герцена (а Николая, соответственно, к Театральной площади). Думаю, что именно на этом факте ученик Пырьева Рязанов и построил свою Иронию судьбы. На ту же тему и детский рассказ про почтовый ящик, написанный гораздо позже, когда улица Герцена уже называлась Большая Никитская, а письмо пришло с Малой Никитской.

To those of us who know AR's playing largely through those rather bland stereo RCA studio recordings, this live performance comes as a revelation. He throws down the gauntlet with the first measures of the f# minor polonaise--and his inspiration never lags throughout the recital. The second sonata as played here can be mentioned in the same breath as Rachmaninoff's recording--and that's some of the best Chopin ever committed to disc; note how AR uses his shoulders and, to some extent, his entire upper body, in the final thrilling bars of the sonata's first movement (start at around 27:20 to see how he builds a shattering climax of sound and emotion).

Yes, some of his recordings do come across as bland. Perhaps he was being careful and did not want to record mistakes. His earliest recordings are often much faster then his mid and late recordings. But here you don't get a sense that he is holding back, or pacing himself because of his age. Incredible.

@@markhedman1884 Those are good points, Mark. Certainly, AR entered into a very close relationship with his live audiences. And he is reported to have modestly told a well-wisher in the green room that he had left out enough notes to compose a whole other piece. A small price to pay for this level of white-hot engagement.

@@РозаАтлас ну по чему же всех остальных под одну гребёнку? Горовиц совершенно гениальный пианист, Горностаева чудесный интерпретатор Шопена к примеру. Даже сейчас молодые таланты, к примеру Дебарг, Бессонов, Маслеев. Все это гении. Причем заметьте сколько имен тут не было названо. Гениев всегда было множество, просто кому-то нравятся одни, а кому-то - совсем другие.
