My mother is.. kind of a hoarder. Even in her permanent home where she has lived for over a decade, she still doesn't have a set room for herself - she just sleeps in any bed. There is trash, old clothing, decades old paper everywhere and it has never felt like a home. Memorabilia from my childhood next to moldy caramels in a storage closet. She started trying to paint the walls a new color over a year ago and now one living room is yellow, another is white. Everything is an unfinished mess, even her mind is the same. How we live truly impacts us and I want to follow in tidier footsteps than she did. Thank you Marie.
@ardentgailla Жыл бұрын
I know your comment is a year old, but I'm going to respond (in case someone needs to hear this). Oftentimes with hoarding, there are psychological issues that need to be addressed. I'm so glad that there are folks around the world like Marie Kondo to show us ways to clean up and organize. However if there is an underlying issue, then it doesn't matter how many books are read or courses taken. You have taken responsibility for yourself and are getting what you need. I'm going to guess that most people really need a push in the right direction or some help knowing how and where to start.

@selenajwallace2944 жыл бұрын
Yes, many of us do. But I have found that a just a little bit of tidying up or decluttering helps us become more positive and more able to begin dealing with the other aspect of tidying...the psychological problems. Believe me I am not trying to trivialize the enormity of what you are saying. I have, and continue to, deal with major issues in this area. Decluttering and tidying your space does result in a decluttering and tidying in your mind but it can be a slow process depending on where you are at. There is an old adage which is so very true "A tidy desk is a tidy mind" This video is an excellent place to start (when you are ready)!🙂💖🕊🌿🌸🌿🍹🕊🙂
@Nikunj_Goel4 жыл бұрын
I do agree with @selenaj wallace and follow the same for mental detox. I just need to say that every individual has their own way to decompress and mitigate stress. The methods can be calm or apparently rogue (without any inhumane practices) but should fulfill the purpose of striving for stress free life. It really depends on the environment and habits of a person for them to self-assess and decide what practices can help them.

There actually is a method that Marie uses (I found out about it thus year when I wanted to re-konmari my things and konmari other aspects of my life). Here is the link: time.com/collection/guide-to-happiness/4178119/marie-kondo-journaling/ Summary: 1. Write what you are feeling (taking everything out) 2. Why you are feeling that way (similar to "does it spark joy") 3. What action you will take (discard/keep) 4. When (time/date) you will take that action (find a home)
@ruaoneill90504 жыл бұрын
I'm right there with ya. There's no easy answer, after YEARS I've finally found a counsellor that is actually helping. It's rrally hard work, constantly. I know things are improving, most of the time, but sometimes it feels like nothing's changed. Those are the hardest times, but I know I can survive them now. It took me a long time to figure out to avoid anything that promises an easy or simple or one size fits all answer. Kon Mari is a great metgod for decluttering your home, when you're in the right headspace. But that's all. I hope you find something to help you. It's worth the effort I swear 💜🖤💜🖤

:Update: I ended up getting a refund. I highly suggest not buying this course as it is basically the book. Buy the book for a lower price. So the class is essentially a visual of the book. The videos are really short. I wish she could help out with kids’ toys. ): I’ll just say, paying the $40 just made me feel like I had to absolutely partake throughly because I didn’t want to feel like I paid that for nothing, so if you need that extra push, that part does work. She changed my life in 2016 💕 but this is my review in that it’s short videos of her book essentially.

@@MarieKondoTV Thank you! I've watched half the videos and then also had a look at things from your site and started writing down my goals, inspirations and started a pinterest board with sections, and thinking about morning/evening routine/rituals, brainstorming and how I want my life. Right now though I don't have much time. I am boxing up a lot and putting things into storage so I can tidy and clean and have less boxes and tripping over music stand, guitar case and amp etc and other stuff and create more space. Also so I can make room to start going through categories and sorting like items more at my own pace. I've already sorted most of the clothing and all of the shoes. I have a bag of clothes to donate/sell/trash and about 50ish pairs of shoes to sell/donate and a box of bags to sell/donate. Everything is still on my bed/floor and in boxes though. I'm going to take the sell/donate stuff to storage for now till I'm ready to deal with that task. I'm giving my drawers to my son to store his lego, board games, mechano and other stuff so I want to buy some Japanese merchant chests for my keep clothing which is in boxes on my bed now. I'm only renting and there's not much storage so I do need to buy some book cases and cupboards so I can organize things onto shelves and not just stacked up and on the floor so it's all a work in progress. I want to try to enjoy the journey and have a meditative experience and not stress about having to do it or stress because it needs doing. I am a bit stressed about the time constraints though. How long should a morning or evening ritual last for? How many different things to do in that time and how much time per each task/activity? I suppose it depends on the task/activity though.

Reduce, reuse, recycle, and refuse. The most important part of decluttering and minimising is not to buy, waste money foolishly. Instead, grow your own food to be healthy and wealthy and wise, share your affluence and exorbitance by getting away from the consumerism and materialism. Self disciple. That very critical need cannot be had by those who need any kind of decluttering method.
