G Rap is the quintessential "your favorite rappers favorite rapper". The godfather of so many tough emcees. The first to go hard into the mafioso style, one of the first ones to start really going deep into multisyllable machine gun flows (this early track is rather simple in its rhyme schemes compared to what came after), one of those cats that's in the top 5 or top 10 of anyone who's a real lyrical emcee. Incredibly influential, you can trace back so many artists styles to G Rap. Tracks I would suggest checking out off the top of my head: "Let The Games Begin", "Fast Life feat. Nas", "Cannon Fire", "My Life", "Blowin' Up In The World".. My favorite album of his is "4, 5, 6", which is a certified no skip album.

Yo, Kool G. Rap taught the whole east coast how to rhyme. He is the godfather of east coast mafioso/gangsta/thug rap. He is the Kool "Genius" of Rap... that's what the G stands for. He came out in the '80s during the Rakim and Kane days. When Nas was first shopping his demo in '91, he was turned down by Russell Simmons, who said he sounded too much like G. Rap. You can not only hear traces of G. Rap in Nas, but also in AZ, Big Pun, Biggie, Big L... G. Rap is definitely a giant in this rap game. Big Pun actually knelt down in front of him and kissed his ring when he first met him. Real shoot.
