I like what you are doing with this. I think you should thread it but I am sure you will come up with the best option. We have not threaded on our Colchester yet either

I am actually leaning towards 12 TPI Dan.

If I was doing an oddball thread, anything bigger than 6 goes by a multiple of 4 for easy threading on a 4tpi lathe. As an engineer, that was a little way of giving back to the machinists haha.

I'm always a fan of face clamping things when I can. So is it possible to do a bolt circle of 6 or 8 tapped holes on that face?

We use 12 pitch on all of the cast iron products I deal with. I think you should shrink fit a sleeve, not too tight!, to the tailstock along with say four dog point screws with a long counter turn on them. How about 1/2-20 fine thread set screws? Less likely to work loose.

I think 8 is far too big. Most hydraulic threads standardise at 12. Even 16 would be fine. Smaller threads hold a lot, and leave more cast iron for strength. No way I'd do 6. Few threading tools are the right hand for threading in reverse. I'm not a big fan of it, as there is no way to start without a relief groove, which I don't use. Set screws will become loose. Tacky as well. The solution is obvious to me. :D Dad has a piece of DOM around that size, lemme get him to measure it for you.
