One thing I find kinda fascinating watching this is that only 3/8 of Ao3's most-represented relationships even made the top ten. Childe/Zhongli is far and away the most popular ship over there (with almost triple the presence of anything that isn't Diluc/Kaeya), and yet it only hit #14 in this list. Definitely shows you how different places reflect different slices of the community.

Tbf they are also one of the oldest ships in the game. Soa lot of content could have been published for them before some of the top ten ships were even introduced. I'm sure there is also some recency bias there, as several of them are from Sumeru

​@@jenilein113 I think it's several reasons. Both your and OP's point is right imo, and another could be the way this poll worked. On Ao3 you can see how many people like a ship enough to write content for it, but not how many people dislike a ship. On this poll, everyone participating was asked to rate EVERY ship in the poll, not just the ones they liked. Let's say 50 people take the poll. 25 people give the ship A 10 and 25 people give them a 1. That will average out to a 5. Then compare that if 50 people rate a ship B at 6 points. Now ship B will have an higher average score and appear more popular despite most people feeling kinda neutral about it while half the people absolutely love ship A. On Ao3, those 25 people would make content for ship A, while none will make content for ship B. Thus Ship A appears as more popular on Ao3 while Ship B would appear more popular on this poll. I hope my explaination makes sense... 😅

Alhaitham/Kaveh has had absolutely explosive popularity, and it's hard not to put recency bias behind Dehya practically getting two ships in the top ten - no shade at either of them - that end up rubbing shoulders with longstanding stuff like Ganqing, Thomato and JeanLisa. Really didn't expect them to place that high at all even if I think they're both good ships.

I think the reason why Chili is lower than expected is because of overexposure. Back in the early days of Genshin, you couldn't go anywhere without seeing it. It was one of the most popular ships, after all. I think people have started to grow sick of it, and even then, I believe the last time Childe and Zhongli have ever interacted in any media was some official art from like 1.3. Given the nature of Genshin, it's always expanding, and people will move on. Kavetham has pretty much taken Chili's place at this point. I wonder if they will fall someday too? also i'm surprised xingyun is as high as it is, i don't really see people talk about them anymore

All things considered, I think a similar dynamic to what you described for Chili occurred in the opposite direction with Xingyun - it's kind of a ship that's built up to an ongoing extent over time, with fans building up with it. So not only does it have a pretty present fanbase, it doesn't quite have the burned out other side of the coin to counteract it with negative votes. It's also consistently relevant, like usually presenting in the Lantern Rite to some extent, much like BeiGuang does. It's personally not my favorite ship by any means (while I know it's not the case feasibly speaking in game, I can't help but see them as literal babies and can't bring myself to ship them haha) but I can definitely see how it'd end up in the top spot like it did.

I doubt Kavetham will fall like chili. Chili has no reason to exists. there is no real relationship between them that can be read as romantic or even as close friends. meanwhile Kavehtan has story together, they know each other very well and, besides the bickering, they do care about each other.

As a zhongchi/tartali shipper, once you dig into the ship more or see more vids about it you can see more chemistry between them, but some people dont get those vids or dont usually focus on them thats why they think they make no sense

Im kinda surprised to see Zhongchi so low, but it also kind of makes sense too. Back in the day the fan base was oversaturated with it. And some parts of its community has been known to not exactly play nice with its rival ships which instilled a lot of resentment and confirmed biases about the ship and its fans overall when before their rival ships seemed to at least tolerate its existence. So that resentment is likely a factor in how the polls turned out for Zhongchi. In fact nowadays I have a few people I know that have began to dislike Childe as a character as a result. As someone who played since day 1 and has made art for the fandom for a good while now I can think of at least 1 overstep Zhongchi has committed against all its rivals when in the beginning everyone at least tolerated its existence. However, it should be pointed out that not all Zhongchi shippers are bad folk. Its just that as per usual, the minority speaks the loudest and the sane Zhongchi shippers are the ones who have to deal with the aftermath. I may not ship Zhongchi but I still feel bad for that sane Zhongchi shipper who gets labeled merely based on the fact a large chunk of their members are batshit insane when they themselves aren't. I hope it gets better for yall.

Bro, tysm for this. I joined around 2.6, after much of the original hype for Childe, Zhongli, and Zhongchi had died off. However one of the reasons I started playing was because of Zhongli, and I stayed playing for Childe! I love Zhongchi almost purely because it is so funny to think about, and not for all the weird gay agenda stuff you see. And when it comes to other ships (Such as Zhongli/Venti, Childe/Lumine, and so on and so forth) I’m TOTALLY down for people who ship that as long as it kinda makes sense yk? (bc obviously I don’t personally understand ships where characters have never even interacted canonically.) Another thing that makes it hard is getting bullied for liking Genshin Impact, and then getting double bullied for being a Childe main BY Genshin Impact fans. If that has taught anything it’s that everyone has different opinions, and everyone should really just be nice to each other and understand why they may ship someone. Unless, ofc, it’s not legal or they get overly obsessive. SO SORRY for the rant but it makes me so happy to not get so judged as a more modern Zhongchi lover ❤

now this is my opinion so i'm not trying to start anything but i personally think lumine/aether x scaramouche, is pretty good! they are actually a great ship! reasons: 1. traveler saw his past, and feelings etc to a very deep level 2.he also was in traveler's conscious and felt their determination and probably a lot more 3. they met back in 1.1, so they know each other a bit 4. traveler helped him so so much! and i am sure he appreciates it 5. they name him, and i feel that is a very special thing in itself 6. his birthday line is very... romantic. one of the most romantic 7. he is a bit tsundere and i am sure he really likes traveler 8. the official art of him giving traveler a flower is cute! 9. he is one of few that knows traveler is not of this world etc 10. and many more that i have not said!

The predominance of f/f ships is astounding. As of writing this the current ratio for Genshin AO3 types is 4.2 : 1.7 : 1 (m/m : m/f : f/f) so it is really interesting how well f/f did in this poll.

Yeah, plus the ship got a lot of backlash during its peak due to its partly toxic fanbase. Also, I’m a Childe main and the amount of people who hate Childe as a character is quite surprising. A rare pair I'd like to mention are Shenhe and Yun Jin, some of the fan art between the two are 👌 Another one I've seen floating about is between Yanfei and Hu Tao, that one has a slight melancholic undertone (as with a lot of ships involving a mortal and immortal character where one might outlive the other such as between Ganyu and Keqing) Jean and Eula is another interesting one, the one-sided rivalry of Eula swearing vengeance on Jean could just be Eula's tsundere manner of respecting the Acting Grand Master, though it might just be that Jean isn't too aware of this and doesn't regard Eula that much more than a fellow knight.

Chili is getting a bit outdated in therms of ships and is getting especially beaten up in therms in game content for others. Also since their a very old pair there will be more fics written about them aswell since they had a longer period to be written about so the ao3 numbers may be a bit deceiving in this case. However I would have also expected them to be closer to Haikaveh/ Kavetham it's really impressive that one ship could grow so fast especially since Kaveh isn't even out yet.

Saw a quick video skit on KZbin somewhere where they were a couple for some sort of skit, and I just thought they looked cute together. My personal favorite genshin ship is Huxiao lmao I knew it wouldn't be here since it's a super rare pair but imma site my reasoning -They're both 5 star polearm Liyue characters that lose hp in their kits -They have that mischevious x quiet and serious dynamic -Their lore connections with the funeral parlor working together with the guardian yakshas -Both have experienced grief -Both have close relationships with Zhongli -The amount of angst potential with Hu tao being mortal and Xiao getting hurt while fighting or cause of his karma -They are both lonely/ sort of outsiders/loners -Actually have an interaction now and are actual acquaintances -Xiao finds her irritating but humurous, whereas Hu tao is secretive about her relations with the adepti, it's a fun head canon that they meet from time to time and hangout (basically Hu tao dragging Xiao into her shenanigans) That's my rant about Hu xiao-

Most of the placements make sense when you see the likes and dislikes, seeing which is most hated and most mixed, and why it gives different views to ao3, ao3 only has people writing for what they like. People here rank everything. I was glad to see Xingqiu/Chongyun so high, their childhood best friends, mutual pinning with the teasing and constant will they won't they. Razor/Bennett is also an enjoyable ship, i think two idiots in love. Razor doesn't care for Bennett's bad luck and Bennett is allowed to be himself, they're both a little out of society so it just feels fitting for them together. I also like Chongyun/Bennett for the vibes of Yin/Yang and i wonder what would happen if they meet, would bennett bad luck let them run into a spirit, or would chongyun's yang cancel it out. They're both sweet and kind of both have some self worth issues due to their conditions, that i think they could do with seeing another perspective to it. Razor/Xingqiu is very lady and the tramp, tarzan and jane energy to me and i just think it's very cute in that regard. I also like Albedo/Xingqiu, i think the artist x writer dynamic, and penpals, the little gay panic they seemed to get in irodori, especially xingqiu being really excited. It's also Albedo is someone who likes Xingqiu purely for his writing, he doesn't see him as the heir of the guild or know him for his title, but for a genuine aspect of himself and as of lantern rite he seems to not even share all his writing with his friends either. I could see it as a celebrity crush onesided with friendship, or a mutual affection. On the topic of onesided, a comedic dynamic i like is Xingqiu with the dark night hero, i just think that the rumours of this mysterious figure if he ever heard them would definitely give him a little celebrity crush, to be him or be rescued by him, or his partner in solving crime? I think he'd probably make up elaborate scenarios and rumours, i don't think he'd ever find about who the dark night hero is, even if he tries or if he does it'd probably dispell the little crush, just in love with the idea of a fantasy hero rather than the person.
