In my second year of studying right now as a diesel mechanic. Watching this to prepare for a lab and the slow pacing and little explanations along the way is super appreciated. Having notes for references and marking equipment as I move along is something very valuable in the long run when it becomes a habit because it makes you thorough, consistent, and reliable. Awesome stuff, the walk through means a lot.

Pro Tip from a Cummins tech: did your hear how he said its a feel thing?? well that is correct to a certain point, let me explain. Did you see how when he would run adjusting screw down then "feel" for slight drag then tighten the nut? If you want the "perfect" feel every time do this: Insert your feeler gauge as he did turn the adjusting screw down just until you have resistance hold it in place and then tighten your jam nut down. The slight tension the tightening of the jam nut against the adjustment screw will create that "perfect" drag every time.

I'm a paramedic looking into becoming a diesel technician, this is a great resource to see what the work will look like and the engines themselves. You would not believe how hard it is to find the anatomy and physiology of a truck.

Here's what I taught myself at 2 in the morning and the truck is to be rolling out around 7. New cylinder head installed, ran the overhead and missed my overlap. Doesn't take but a few degrees guys. As soon as that intake roller starts to move with your finger on it, stop. If your intakes are too tight or lose determines where the roller is on the cam lobe ramp. I always roll my intakes to the bottom of the lobe and set those intakes then roll it up to where the roller starts to move. Doesn't take but ten minutes longer. But so what.

Cheers from Down Under. Great video. Love watching this sort of stuff. Was a diesel mechanic years ago but now I just enjoy tinkering. Miss is a lot but watching you work on this kind of job reminds me of the sore back and the hyper-extended knees. Those screws that hold the Jake wires. Take them out and throw them to the schissenhausen then replace them with allen head screws. I hate flat bladed screws at the best of times but when they are tight like they were for you then they easily burr over resulting in a lot of swearing and added time to the job. Keep up the good work.

You run the inj height tool different than me for sure. I put my finger on top and rock the tool in and out watching the bottom of the tool. If the post moves in the inj hole too high, if the flag moves on top, too low. Right in between, lock er down. Also you don't need short rocker shaft bolts, just use the jake spacers on top of the rocker shaft. Also once a year you are suppose to remove the inj harness at the ecm, inspect for oil. If oil found replace the inj harness and if you have the million dollar fitting, vac test the ecm. Must hold 6" of vacuum for 15 minutes. I worked in a fleet that had 11000 s60's. Take care, wear gloves, that crap is highly carcinogenic.

When adjusting the J valve for the Jake's loosen the lock nut and turn in the J valve in about a half a turn to bleed it. Then set your lash adjustment. This pushes the oil out so you don't get a false reading.

@KoonTrucking5 жыл бұрын
I love the Detroit 60 series they are great. Our entire fleet is all Paccar Mx engines all but 1 Detroit (60 series) 1 Cummins Isx and 1 Cummins M11 I am not a Cummins fan at all. They are strong but won’t last (look in the truck paper at how many are for sale at 500-700k and you will see “recent inframe” My favorite engine is the Paccar MX13 EPA10 engine. When they are deleted they never come back in the shop for anything other than ac work, regular maintenance, belt tensioner or air leak on the fuel cutoff (I did a video on common issues with Paccar engines that shows everything you will see with them). Once those epa10 trucks are deleted they are really reliable and an amazing engine
