Let's look at Korbin Albert's film from all six W Gold Cup games to learn about her play style and how she can contribute to the USWNT.

She is the first player, that has the ability to take over that postion, that we have had since Ertz played, she will be a star, makes this team better already!

This was great, you're super on camera. It made me think that I don't know what Lindsey was thinking when she made everyone mad a few weeks ago, but **I** think that it's very hard to judge box-to-box/ 8-ish midfielders. It wouldn't surprise me if Lindsey thought most US fans don't really understand what she's been doing, until more recently. Great credit to you for putting the eye on Korbin putting in work in the middle of the pitch!

I took Horan's comments personally! I do think there was some truth to it but if that's the case it's because there's just not enough variety in the coverage. I'm hoping these film session help people form their own opinions on how someone plays a role like an 8 or a 6 where "good" isn't as clear cut.

the clips are SO WELL Put Together; the pace of analysis is good and easy to follow; the use of rewind and the arrow on a play are very helpful; and, I learn so much, not being a footballer, seeing film from an insider / tactical point of view. All in all, STUNNING, high quality and Precious Content ! Thank you so much for sharing this online. I am curious what your name is, and whether / what kind of footballing experience / background you come from
@BusyWatchingWomensSoccer2 ай бұрын
Really glad to hear the pace worked, I wanted to try build a bit more of a narrative with this one while being as concise as possible. I've been purposeful to not mention anything about myself so as to keep the focus on the film but figured people may get curious eventually! I'm Bridie, I'm originally from the UK but live in California now. I played two seasons in Singapore's women's league and one season in the UK's second tier league before I stepped away from the game to focus on other things. Fell back in love with it recently and here we are!

I just found your films and I love them. Korbin Albert is the player who most impressed me during this tournament. I think you might have underrepresented her turnovers a bit, but she was a machine at regaining possession and it's hard to believe she's playing at the level she is with only 7 caps. A few more games with the USWNT and I think her turnovers will drop as she better understands where other USWNT players will be. I would love to see her, Horan and Macario playing together as I think the three of them have the highest positional awareness among the available players. I'd really like to see what the three of them can do together. Here's hoping for a glimpse in SheBelieves!
@BusyWatchingWomensSoccer2 ай бұрын
Probably fair on the turnovers, I started loosely keeping track once I realized how few there were. They were mostly in nasty areas of the field too (but unpunished!) so that's probably another layer of context I didn't add. I'm truly stunned by her level of play at 20, her game IQ is off the charts. I think Albert, Horan, Macario, and Fox are going to combine so nicely together. Very excited for the next tourney!

watched some of her ND videos and they seem to suggest that she has a really strong long shot capability. Again in the match against Hacken she struck a goal from way out. That is a really useful skill. The Team must watch out for opportunities, for her to do that. She has been practising her set piece free shots too.
@BusyWatchingWomensSoccerАй бұрын
I really wanted to cover her shot but just couldn't work it in. She seems to have a real shoot to score mentality, no shots just for the sake of it. I'm starting to follow PSG more to keep an eye on her and Gaetino, incredible players. ND recruiting must be something else!

Thank you! I Really appreciate your detailed analysis. Especially given Horan's recent statements about unsophisticated American fans. This kind of analysis is what we need. What is your background? Are you a coach?
@BusyWatchingWomensSoccer2 ай бұрын
Starting these videos was very much motivated by Horan's comments. There's a massive fanbase but not as much variety in the soccer focused coverage so I'm trying to make the kind of videos I was looking for! I've never coached but did play for a long time including three seasons of senior football in Singapore and England.

I didn't know much about Korbin before this tournament and I think she did a great job. I thought your analysis was great of what she does well and what she can improve on. We need some strength and creativity in the midfield. I feel like it's the position group that has been the most unsure and most indecisive. We really need to find that starting lineup of midfielders determined ASAP so they can get reps together in games.
@BusyWatchingWomensSoccer2 ай бұрын
Second your thoughts on the midfield looking unsure. It's been a bit of a revolving door there and the team probably needs to lock in 3/4 players for a season to get the chemistry going. Really loved Horan and Albert together, I'm not 100% sold on Coffey yet but hoping she convinces me.
@zippityb2 ай бұрын
Great stuff! You are the first person I've watched "film" from and you do a great job. Excellent presentation and you really help people understand what is going on on the pitch and from specific players. Love it. Regarding the hesitancy for headers, I would be too! I would be scared to get an injury or concussion! Great spot though! Regardless, I think that it's great you are able to point out both positives and negatives for players. Cheers!

Thanks for the lovely feedback, I'm looking forward to covering more players like this.
@jorgevelasquez99552 ай бұрын
Thank you ! Spot on. She is the future for Team USA. Everyone always talk about the great strikers on the team BUT strikers cant work their magic unless they have the ball at their feet, and that is what Corbin already does best at her tender young age, controls her space, fights to controls the ball and distributes brilliantly. I think she would elevate her game if she stayed with the play after making that forward pass to the strikers and demands the ball back to continue pressing and maybe scoring! Team USA needs more of these halfbacks who build through the middle of the field, hello Sanchez,DeMello! If you want more goals from the front line, control and build both vertically and horizontally on the field with your half backs. I'm sure she will continue to grow playing in Europe with PSG.
@BusyWatchingWomensSoccer2 ай бұрын
Really like your read on advancing more with the play. First game of the tournament against Dominican Republic they had her play higher and she looked fantastic. Hoping they give her a bit more freedom to do her thing next time around. I think she’s proved they can trust her!
@jorgevelasquez99552 ай бұрын
Barcelona has Aitana, dominates the midfield AND is in on the attacks she helps set up. Hope Korbin can be more like Aitana and Team USA let's her fly!
@shaunagm43542 ай бұрын
Great analysis! It's funny - the Athletic just came out with roster predictions and Albert was barely mentioned as a possibility to make the roster. Just goes to show how hard it can be to evaluate midfield performance. If you're in the mood to tackle a big topic, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the USWNT's midfield woes over the last few years. It can be really hard to tell when things aren't working because of the individual players on the field, the formation choices, or other tactical reasons.
@BusyWatchingWomensSoccer2 ай бұрын
It's super hard to evaluate, especially when we're just speculating as to what the team is looking for or evaluating against. Based on the minutes they gave her, the penalty, the odd set piece, I they're expecting to need her in the summer. The midfield woes are something I'd love to tackle. I have a theory it's a wider developmental issue with the US system pushing talented players up front and prioritizing individual skill. Lots more for me to watch but if I can prove or disprove that there may be something interesting to put together.

@michaelt62182 ай бұрын
First of all, love your Wave kit! Second, your observation about the USWNT being somewhat torn between two different styles of offense (possession vs transition) is interesting. Do you have a thought about which approach Emma Hayes might prefer? Is it likely that she will want players who can adapt on the fly between both, depending on what the game and the opponent is giving them?
@BusyWatchingWomensSoccer2 ай бұрын
This had me thinking for a while! I get the sense Hayes wants a balanced team that she can alter based on the opponent. That transitional football is what the team is so well known for and this country is fantastic at developing high skill players that attack directly. You can't lose the DNA of the USWNT but it hasn't been enough for them to win games against top tier teams. It makes me think Hayes wants the defense and midfield to manage possession but the forwards get to do their thing. The only thing I think she's wanting to see from the forwards now (more so the wingers) is more discipline around recognizing cues and deciding when to initiate a risky attack.
@michaelt62182 ай бұрын
@@BusyWatchingWomensSoccer One more question, if that's okay -- you mentioned "more discipline around recognizing cues" for the forwards/wingers, and that made me think about the past few years of watching the USWNT attack. So often it's been route one, bomb and go, and sometimes that works, which is great! But all too frequently, and with certain forwards , they would be caught offside and a very promising chance would yield nothing. Of course, part of that is because of the hair-splitting way the darn offside rule is written and enforced, which I hate, but could it also sometimes be from a lack of discipline? I think you might be referring more to deciding when to press, how to move as a group, but I'm interested in your opinion on this.
@BusyWatchingWomensSoccer2 ай бұрын
For sure, these questions are great! I don't feel that being flagged offside is necessarily a bad thing. If it's part of a team strategy to aggressively bomb and go you might have to get caught twice for one to result in a goal, those ones I'm okay with. Then there's the offside that is just a lack of discipline from getting ahead of yourself, those only make it harder for your teammates to pass to you so those are definitely a big negative. That being said, I don't see Hayes being okay with the team turning the ball over on a long bomb, it's not a high enough percentage scoring chance. I think the forwards will probably be instructed to take their risks in the attacking third only on specific cues like a potential switch open across the field, an overload on one side of the pitch, or something simple like a speed mismatch between a winger and outside back. Creates higher percentage chances with less impact from a turnover if it goes wrong.
