KOREA TOWN OF LONDON 'NEW MALDEN' TOUR 2021

The Hanguk Hapa team are back with a mini-tour of the Korea town of London: New Malden. New Malden, fondly known as 뉴몰든 to the Korean community, is home to the largest Korean community outside of Korea in Europe. Join me as I take you on a mini tour of the Korea Town of London and introduce you to some of my favourite spots to enjoy authentic Korean food!
Originally filmed for a segment of HallyuCon 2021 showing the Korean food scene in the UK, we decided to make this into a mini introduction to the Korea Town of London.

'More about Becky from Hanguk Hapa'
I'm Becky [이베키] a half Korean half British Korean foodie on a mission to promote real authentic Korean food and the history behind it. On my socials, I go by the name 'Hanguk Hapa', Hanguk meaning Korean and Hapa meaning 'of mixed ancestory'. I chose the word 'Hapa' as after researching different words for mixed heritage I came accross 'Hapa' with historical roots from Hawaii and was relieved it didn't have negative connotations to describe someone of a mixed upbringing! I have been raised on my 엄마 mother's delicious home cooked 집밥 Korean food which led me into a long term love for the cuisine and the background story behind each dish. I want to share with you the history and best places to eat authentic Korean food in the UK.

Used to live in New Malden from 1997 to 2005, it's a lovely place. Has a kind of peaceful, clean and fresh vibe compared to the surrounding towns which are a bit more gritty and hectic.

I taught English in Gyeonngi-do province in the Gwangmyeong-si district of Seoul years ago. Boy do I remember the chicken and beer spots so well. I thought the chicken wouldn't be as good as say KFC or the local mom and pops places in my hometown. I was wrong! That chicken was off the chain!
