People tell me "Korean beauty system is totally wrong" (I am Korean American) and "they are all plastic" and such. they say that I should just love myself. But it is not easy. I think the english translation for the 'korean beauty standard' question was wrong... In the video, it says 'Korea has needs for a more diverse beauty standard', but actually the question is 'Does Korea have to diversify their beauty standards?'. As you can see, the question is quite ambiguous, and it is more so in Korean. I think she put an emphasis on the word 'have'(in korean '필요'), and in that point of view, her answer wasn't off the point and nor was it contradicting to what she said later. Maybe you guys should re-watch that part of the video considering this..? And she also wrote a comment clarifying the question and her point. Hello everyone, the woman in the video is one of my best friends and has been for over a decade. She is one of the most beautiful people inside and out and it really hurts to see people see her in such a negative light. I believe that something was lost in communication in regards to the Korean beauty standard comment. She doesn’t believe that anyone, society or person, has the right to tell you that you’re not beautiful enough. However, she also believes that no one has the right to tell you to be happy with what you have or “what you were born with” when you’re not happy with yourself. It is a belief that everyone has the right to choose what they want to do with their body and or face if it makes them happy and everyone should respect that choice.

Please get her to look at the negative comments and notice the horrible and immature language used along with their lack of open mindedness... These people are those that aren't educated or they are young teenagers who are still ignorant of the world. Also please get her to notice a lot support her answers, including myself. Those that do are very articulative and has information that backs up their points. Which demonstrates that majority of the adults here agree with her. Hopefulyy she isn't greatly affected by the negative response.

Yes i understand these standards have detrimental effects on the youth as a whole. Most of them feel inferior to this definitely but imagine growing up looking at models or celebrities having these standard looks. This will then make them wanna try to look like them so that they can "fit in" or be accepted in the society's eyes. They get procedures done or make changes in their lifestyles and then when they become pretty according to these standards someone who is not even korean tells them that their beauty standards are bad on the younger generation or that there can be changes made in these standards that will offend them or they may not be willing to change it cuz they've worked for it and paid huge amount of money for either surgery or products to get yhis look. Bringing a change in the beauty standard means that they're investment on achieving this certain "look" will all go to vain. (Im sorry i tried to explain the best i can im not good at it as it can be seen clearly) 😅

A little too superficial. There's nothing wrong with changing the way you look by ways of plastic surgery or such, but she seemed too willing to go to such lengths to make herself happier. If you really think plastic surgery will solve your problem, you should look at the real reason you're unhappy. Her response to the beauty standards was basically "since we can't do anything about it, i'll do nothing and just join in." The real reason she is fine with Korea's beauty standards is because she can fit into them. After all, the people who most desire to be prettier are the ones who are already pretty.
