@@helloworld738 I loved dictation. I was best at that. I once misunderstood a homework assignment in my level 4 French class. I thought the teacher told us to translate a Christmas movie, so I translated every bit of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”. However, she actually told us to summarize it. I still got credit for it since I had done a lot more work than was necessary. Level 4 French was an elective class as our state test was at the end of Level 3 French, so verb conjugation drills and massive vocabulary dumps were no longer a thing. Level 4 was about comprehension and usage, but in interesting ways.

I'm an American who is currently tutoring someone from China, and I didn't realize that English had 3 "U" sounds (i.e. luck, look, and Luke), two "th" sounds ("eth": ð, and "thorn": Þ) and 2 "L" sounds (dark L and light L). I always memorized these sounds, but never really labeled them before. Also, I learned that in American English, there are a ton of _glottal stops_ (the sound made to replace the "T" in the word "mountain" and "don't"), _flap Ts_ (the "D" sound that replaces the "T" sounds in the words "turtle" and "bottle"), and full-on _omissions of the "T" sound_ in words like "twenty". I take these words for granted because the language is my native tongue, so I'm used to many of the nuances. Sorry to ESL students! English is a very difficult language because it's a hodge-podge of so many other languages, like French and Greek, and those languages have different pronunciation and spelling rules.

in pretty much all every country part of the commonwealth it is pronounced sal-mon and the k for(knight, knowing, knock ,knob) came from the French initially; the silent ' (as we know it now) is a remnant of Old English, and wasn't at all but pronounced along with the 'n'. Nobody really -nows why or when it but this change is believed to have transpired sometime around the 16th to 17th centuries.

English is fucked up, not my first language, but I have absolutely no issues with it and I have no clue why. Everything just makes sense to me, even things I encounter for the first time. Even if I just read a word, I can figure out how to pronounce it, even if I've never heard it before, and I don't know why. That's frustrating, to know something, but not knowing why. I should also mention that I've been using English on a daily basis for 20 years, so if anyone wants to know how to get better, just use it daily and read a lot of various texts.

English has no real rule system most of the time, but I still find it one of the easiest languages like you said. Russian, Arabic and Chinese are the most difficult I think.

Since America and American English is still pretty new history wise, there’s a lot of stuff seemingly...thrown in there from other countries.. that and even though there are grammar and spelling rules, there’s always some exceptions , especially in pronunciation.

About music is really me,I'm non English speaker (I'm Swahili speaker from Tanzania 🇹🇿)but whatever the language is even if I don't understand but I feel like I understand it when I'm listening,I feel the vibe ,I like Korean,English, Chinese,Spanish e.tc and not even understand a word expect for some easy English songs, but if it's a slow motion song,I feel like it's a sad song and I play them when I'm sad if it's has dancing vibe ,I just play it and dance and sing along with it using my own words which doesn't exist in any language, one of them is my love by Lee he and Saldaga (Korean songs)

Part of the problem with English is that the spelling was standardized before the pronunciation was. So, by the time everyone stopped pronouncing the K in Knight, they had already set the spelling as k-n-i-g-h-t and didn't feel inclined to change it. A lot of other words we borrowed/stole from other languages and then mangled.
