What I like the most abt these shows is that even though there are gay characters, that's not the main plot. In she-ra for example, you have lesbian couples, gay couples, bisexual characters, trans and nonbinary characters too, but they never make a big deal out of it, that's just how it is. In kipo and the age of wonderbeasts too, it was actually the first time a character in a cartoon said "I'm gay" outloud, and kipo is only surprised and shocked bc she's embarrassed since she had confessed to him and had mistaken his friendliness for attraction, they hug each other and they go back to trying to save the world lol is very important that gay characters are incorporated into children's shows naturally and without making a big deal out of their identities, because that's how life is too
@coralie2883 жыл бұрын
It's not an animation, but the Canadian series "Lost Girl" is the same! The main character is bi/queer and doesn't care about her partners' gender. Same with the other characters. It's never the main topic, it's just how they are. Like in real life. That's just how people are.
@yoongskasa3 жыл бұрын
exactly, it's good to show that people shouldn't need to come out and that it's not a big deal, instead of stopping the whole plot to focus on a character or a couple just because of their sexuality, it's just a matter of treating us equally just like nobody goes around being surprised or making a big deal about someone being cishet

But kids in each country should listen but think about things and close their mind because kids and upcoming one will be the molding point of the future, they shouldn't listen all the time that they know what made something a big problem till now like not accepting lgbt, racism and more but sometimes instead doing that, those who are older pushes a belief especially hate and racism and some kids just sadly adapt it and mostly of them turn into IGNORANT BULLIES

as someone in the LGBTQ+ community, i love that this is being more and more talked about in conservative countries. i’ve seen some BL dramas out of korea labeled as Rated-R but there’s barely any physical contact whatsoever. the thought that if someone sees a LGBTQ+ couple on TV that they’ll “become gay” is so wrong. you can’t “become” gay or straight, you just are. all of these people that grew up with just straight couples on TV or with straight parents and still are apart of the LGBTQ+ community is proof of that. it’s a personal thing not influenced by media or parents. like chacha said “if i watch a movie about a soldier does that mean i’m going to be a soldier? no.” that’s exactly the right thinking. thank you❤️❤️

Fetishisation isn't acceptance. Lesbians being seen through the male gaze and not being taken seriously because of that is the opposite side of the spectrum of dehumanisation. Gay man get pure hatred and rage, lesbians are seen as frivolous. Neither is acceptance. I don't mean to sound negative or preachy, like I'm angry with you or anything, but as a lesbian I find it frustrating that people accually believe that because men hypersexualise and trivialise us, it's somehow "acceptance".
@joannelee55743 жыл бұрын
@@rainboe_chile6256 I agree about the fetishization thing. I think what they meant was “more open to” than necessarily accepting respectfully, and unfortunately, a big reason western culture is more open to lesbian and bi women is because of their oversexualization :// there’s a notion that if two women mess around, it’s hot but “not serious”, while gay and bi men are immediately emasculated for even holding hands, it’s weird💀💀 I’m not sure why it is that Korean culture seems more accepting of mlm than wlw though, it’s really interesting especially as a wlw Korean. The cartoon with the heart and the two schoolboys is the cutest. I watched it a long time ago and I still go back to watch whenever I feel down because of how cute it is and it just uplifts my mood. Also even though it is a bit different because I am straight and I didn’t have to go through a lot of struggles that the LGBTQ+ community has to go through, it reminds me of when I was in school and how I felt with my crushes.

I find it interesting that they said it's more okay to be gay than lesbian in Korea. In the west, I see it as the opposite. Being lesbian is more accepted because lesbians are fetishized by men so much. But if a man is gay, it threatens straight men.
@pitofinoelmejor3 жыл бұрын
Exactly and it's just really messed up :/
@Aainni_3 жыл бұрын
There's a lot of misogyny in that "accepting". As you said, lesbian couples suffer fetishizing, so basically they are seen as objects for men's desire, impling that the relationship between the couple isn't real or actually serious. I don't think that can really counts as being more accepted...
@seikoshinohara30843 жыл бұрын
Lesbian are only accepted when men find them attractive and bi women suffer the highest rate of abuse of any sexuality

I was hoping for Sh-ra, but a tiny correction - it's not 'about' gender identities or sexual orientations, those are just elements of the characters. Good video! Maybe include Steven Universe and Adventure Time scenes in part 2? :D

Being honest even though I know the girls are very nice I was very anxious about them being closed minded but this took a turn for the best. Korea is still very conservative but Korea also is one of the fastest growing countries in the world, I have faith that things will change soon and LGBT+ people and queerness can be portrayed more favorably in media

im korean and lgbt, and growing up in a korean household where my parents try to be accepting, they still tend to say things that are offensive and they dont realize it. they tend to deny the fact that some characters in shows can be lgbt, or call transgender people "cross dressers" or a man that wants to be a woman or a woman that wants to be a man, etc etc. and growing up like this and watching koreans get interviewed about how they feel about lgbt and getting negative responses a lot of the time, it always made me lose faith that my own people werent gonna be accepting of me. but this video really restores a lot of my lost faith and makes me feel hopeful

I really liked the show Color Rush. The relationship between the two characters developed naturally and being in a romantic relationship wasn't the prime focus. They just ended up developing feelings for each other. I really liked that.

I love that you guys are so open minded and frank with how you talk. America is definitely advancing in many ways towards acceptance of people from every walk of life. Things I never could’ve imagined as a child or high school student are now every day norms. Disney Channel has shows now featuring LGBT characters, Disney theme parks are removing controversial characters or scenes from rides and around the park, no more do we have to watch movies and read between the lines and look for clues to get the writer or director was hinting at someone being LGBT. It can openly be demonstrated in the media. I hope one day soon Korea, Japan and China will get to enjoy the freedom of inclusion and equality.

I personally think that is so important to have LGBT+ representation in kid's cartoons, because that way, the kids will get to know that there is nothing wrong with being part of the community and no matter at what age they discover who they are they can manage to accept themselves much more easy than without representation. Att: a Bisexual that thought bisexuality was wrong and accepted they were bi 6 years after discovering who they were.
