I realize how considerate filipino parents are all kids party food caters kids taste bud. We have sweet spag, lumpia, hotdogs, icecream, fried chicken, cake and more. Maybe that is why it hits hard when you grow older since you cant celebrate your bday with parents and some of us has already changed tastebuds telling us that we are already adults.

i agree! some of my younger relatives are korean and some of them mexican - adults have mixed feelings about filipino spaghetti but i've noticed the younger ones unanimously like the sweet style spaghetti. perfect for a children's birthday party!

Having pancit and spaghetti during a birthday celebration symbolizes a wish for good, healthy and long life. Understandable that they didn't like the pancit. I've never had a pancit that is bitter either. Pancit is usually sprinkled with calamansi.

It's a totally different taste palate. Korean food leans heavily toward spicy and garlicky. Filipino food is a tad more diverse depending on where the original came from (China vs Indo-Malay vs Spanish).

Pancit actually has a relatively bland taste, so we put calamansi all over for more flavor. It wasn't supposed to be bitter at all. No wonder Jessica was surprised. 😅

Pancit is flavorful if you have boiled bone soup base. In my case when i’m cooking pancit bihon, I already prepared a seasoned soup base which contains boiled bone marrow before cooking my pancit.

It is supposed to be taste like salt pepper chicken pork broth and calamansi. The veggies should be carrots, cabbage, sometimes celery. Maybe the dark green vegetable made it taste bitter.

First of all.. I'm surprised the two boys didn't give lumpia a perfect score. When we cook it, I would take a small dish and grab atleast 8 lumpia or even more, the others won't have any lumpia hahaha.. it's too yummy and sometimes I just get full but idc I still eat it. And for the pancit bihon. We just had it tonight and it was delicious, when the kids said it was bitter, the cook probably didn't cook it right.
