I appreciate how close up your camera work is. It makes it very easy to see what you're doing. Your video is also refreshingly calm, without a lot of meaningless words that act as filler. I'm subscribing.

I'm 73 and live in the UK. I'm South African and in the 1950s was taught to do the seam the way you do. I the 1960s was taught to do the seam by machine. Very neat and strong method. I see some of the Indian clothes are also finished this way, because they don't have overlockers. Interesting technique, thank you.

@itsmyparty4637 Oh interesting… I thought a French seam was sewn so that the raw edge was enclosed in the seam allowance, but not sewn down and flat - as in the seam allowance can still be moved to the left or right side on the inside. . Here is a tutorial of what I mean: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKaZi6t-dt-nnNEfeature=shared

@@itsmyparty4637 AFAIK A French seam isn't sewn down....... that's how I was taught in the 60s......we also did a seam like this one (sewn down so it's joined and flat) but I can't remember what it was called.....this was in the 60s 😊

I'm 73 and in the UK too. My Mum taught me at home and we had needlework at school. I can't remember all the techniques and their names now though. I was hopeless with a machine but a very neat handsewer and learned a little bit from my grandma who had started work as a milliner at age 12 and was very neat and accurate. I'm now into slowstitch and find it therapeutic 😊

This is called a flat felled seam here in the UK. This seam is used when extra strength is needed for a seam, such as on denim jeans. Am very happy to see it used for more delicate items. Particularly now as I want to make a quilt based on a Mondrian painting. 😊😊😊

Oh yes! I should have added that in my description. Can’t believe I missed it since I take apart denim all the time…

I use this seam when I'm making my dresses by hand. It's a lovely seam for the inside of any clothes.

I am in the middle of making a pojagi sewn by hand as I like handsewing, and I love the way it looks! When I hang it by a window it looks like stained glass....just beautiful!

This is a lovely technique for a Tee shirt quilt/duvet that I want to make with varying sizes of blocks (Tee shirts) I like the different sizes in the patchwork Jogakbo. You have inspired me!

I do two backstitches (one over the other) when I hand sew patchwork because the knots can be bulky when joining the pieces. Finishing the seam uses two backstitches as well.

Thanks for a very clear and informative tutorial. My hunch is that the algo put you into my feed because I follow Kate on The Last Homely House and she's created pojagi curtains for her home/studio. I've been wanting to use this method to create cloth I could use for a top, so the timing is perfect!

It is also called a French seam. Before sergers it was popular so the fabric would not ravel.

I’m used to it as French Seam. I learned it doing French lace and smocked dresses for small children.

These were scraps from previous projects - the green linen is a handkerchief linen (I think) is from Robert Kaufman and the natural color linen is from Gordon Fabrics. I got them wholesale, but I think you can find on Etsy for retail, and smaller qtys.
