I have been trying to get the nuances of these different words to stick in my head for two years; your perfect explanations (e.g., "...never followed by a noun...") has finally given me a way to help me remember them. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 감사합니다, 선생님 아라! (p.s. I discovered (and subscribed to) your channel in December. I really like your content; even if it's something I've already learned on my own (I do self study) you always share something that increases/solidifies my knowledge. Keep up the good work!).

So, for if something unbelievable happens or something, would it be the first one? If not, which one?

This is unbelievable! (What's happening here?) 이게 무슨 일이야!(casual) -> 무슨 what + 일 matter/thing

선생님 질문 있어요. 1. 어떤 영화를 봤어요? 2. 무슨 영화를 봤어요? 3. 어떤 영화를 좋아해요? 4. 무슨 영화를 좋아해요? Which of these refer to: - Which movie did you watch? eg Harry Potter, Parasite, etc (Answer - 2?) - What kind of movies do you like? eg Action, Thriller etc (Answer - 3?) 맞아요?
@kevinnguyen33334 жыл бұрын
May I ask when do you use 어떤 vs 무슨? what kind of food do you like, what foods do you like... the difference is the first you are choosing among types? is it the same for 어떤 as well?
@KoreanArah4 жыл бұрын
If you want to know 'what kind of things', you can use '어떤+N' in a sentence. 예) 어떤 음식 좋아해요? What kind of food do you like? The answer should be about 'a certain kind of food' like -한국 음식요. Korean food -매운 음식요. Spicy food -면 종류요. many kinds of noodles -etc... If you want to know 'what thing, the name of the thing', you can use '무슨+N' in a sentence. 예) 무슨 음식 좋아해요? What food do you like? The answer should be 'the name of the thing' like -떡볶이요. Tteokbokki -김밥요. Gimbap -김치요. Kimchi -etc... *무슨+N is sometimes used as 'what kind of N' depending on the context. 예) 무슨 종류 음식 좋아해요? What kind of food do you like? The answer should be about 'a certain kind of food'.

When you say 뭐, I easily hear MWO. Very crisp pronunciation. But when I hear audio from google translate, duolingo or elsewhere, I seem to hear BWO. And then native speaking Korean friends I also hear BWO. Are my ears bad or something? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

thank you for this video 선생님! 😊❤️ but how is the difference in usage from 뭐, 뭐야, 뭐라고, 뭐라고랴?
@KoreanArah4 жыл бұрын
뭐 what 뭐야 is the casual word of 뭐예요. It means 'What is it?' and 뭐야 is used in conversations among people who are very close to you since it's not polite form. 뭐라고 is the short form of '뭐라고 했어?' which means 'What did you say?'. This is also casual word. which is not polite words. 뭐라고랴?-> It doesn't make sense.I guess this word has a typo but not sure what word it is.
@maulaazzahra644 жыл бұрын
@@KoreanArah waaa, your explanation is very easy to understand 😍 thank you so much 🥰 Im sorry for my typo 선생님 😅, that I mean is 뭐라고야.
@KoreanArah4 жыл бұрын
@@maulaazzahra64 I guess '뭐라고야' is originally the word 뭐라고요 since there is no word like 뭐라고야. 뭐라고요 is the polite form of 뭐라고.(뭐라고+요polite ending). 뭐라고? is the short form of 뭐라고 했어? = 뭐라고요? is the short form of 뭐라고 했어요? Both of them mean 'What did you say?'. Hope this helps.😉

Does 년도, 년생 and 학년 comes from 년 동안, 년 생일 and 학교 년? Also should I add 언제 when using 며칠?
@KoreanArah5 жыл бұрын
1. 년도 is different from 년 동안. 년도 means 'that specific year'(년도 can be shortened to 년) but 년 동안 means 'for ~years'. 저는 2019년(도)에 미국에 갔어요. 저는 2년 동안 호주에 살았어요. 2. That's right. 년생 & 학년 kind of come from 년 생일 & 학교 년. FYI, these are Sino-Korean you can check. *생 to be born at that time *학 to study Check this dictionary to see more meanings of words in Korean & English. Multi Language Dictionary me2.do/5IV7RyXB 3. You can say 언제 instead of 며칠 when you are asking the date in the context.

Hi, I have a doubt. When you ask "what are you doing" (present progressive), you say: 뭐 해요. My question is whether how you are asking it is in present tense or present progressive. Besides, I would like to know this is also correct to ask "what are you doing": 뭐 하고 있어? Thanks in advance!
@KoreanArah4 жыл бұрын
1. The 아요/어요 form of verbs or adjectives is called 'the present tense form(현재형 in Korean)'. However, this form indicates 3 kinds of tense. 1) present 저는 매일 공부해요. I study every day. 2) present progressive 저는 지금 공부해요. (=공부하고 있어요.) I am studying now. 3) near future 저는 내일 공부해요. (=공부할 거예요.) I am studying tomorrow. So, as you said, '뭐 해요' can be used in either the present tense or present progressive. The thing is, in this video, there is no context or clue to guess what the exact situation is.😋 2. 뭐 하고 있어(informal casual forms) is correct if you are talking to a very close friend or famliy members.
