Whenever RM speaks to anyone who is British he will do a British accent on purpose. It's cute.

@ablindinglightthatnolonger83794 жыл бұрын
I'm not really sure if he does that on purpose (I mean he is so clever that it could possibly be true), however, it happens to a few people that if they speak with somebody with a blunt accent, they sort of absorb their accent. For instance, I'm Italian and I come from Rome, but when I speak with somebody from Naples I tend to pick up a different cadence. For that same reason, my accent when I speak English is a hot mess. In school, I mainly just learnt English grammar, so the speaking, the listening, the writing and the reading, I've learnt them all as an autodidact, by watching videos and movies, reading books, writing to foreign friends, listening to music, and now that I live in England by interacting face to face with native English speakers and people from other parts of the world (mainly Europe). Now when I speak, my accent can literally morph from one to another in the same sentence and when I talk with somebody from England, I probably sound different than when I talk with somebody from another country. It's something that I do subconsciously for the most part.

I really don't think he does it on purpose. I'm swedish and usually I'll speak with a more "American" accent when speaking english, however, whenever I've been to England or Scotland I end up speaking in a more "British" accent and I wont even notice it. It usually sticks with me for a few weeks after getting back to sweden as well. Honestly, sometimes I just need to watch a British movie or tv-show and my accent changes for a few hours.

He has a high IQ and is known for being a genius but I agree not everyone is like RM and can learn a new language just by watching a TV series or drama but I really like the tips the English teachers said if your going to try to learn korean by dramas to record yourself saying what they said in the drama and compare. Code-switching is rather natural for everyone, especially those who are multilingual.

Personally, I think the way RM did it is why he got the "conversational" English down. Learning from a book will teach you sentence structure but what I notice about Koreans trying to learn English is that they lack the conversational part. And his mannerisms and flow comes from watching friends. The natural mannerisms of every day speak. No one here in US speaks proper English all the time. There are lot of slangs that's not captured in books and class rooms. Which is why RM sounds like he's from America or he learned English in America. And I'm Korean-American and can speak both (although my Korean vocabulary is not as vast - naturally). So I know what I'm talkin' bout' 😉

I think it’s just how he pronounces words. Americans pronounce words differently than those who are British or Australian, and I think he is subconsciously pronouncing words according to how the person he is talking to pronounces them. Nothing wrong with it haha and I always think it’s interesting hearing the different accents people can pick up depending on how they learned English! Hongjoong and San from Ateez, RM from BTS, Felix or Bangchan from Stray Kids (obviously lol), Mark from NCT, the majority of Monsta X, and Jackson from GOT7 all have different accents. It also depends a lot on their fluency in the language! LANGUAGE IS SO COOL I SHOULD STUDY MY TARGET LANGUAGE MORE
@fishy0004 жыл бұрын
I totally get the picking up a different accent and vocabulary depending on who you're speaking to. I only speak English (I'm American), but I often find myself unconsciously using different vocabulary when speaking to my British friends or my step-mom, who's from Germany. When I talk to my British friends, I tend to use "full stop" instead of "period" or "mental" rather than "crazy", but I don't do it on purpose at all. I only realize after I stop and think about it haha. My step-mom's English is quite good, but sometimes she uses words and phrases in a way that flows differently from my usual way of speaking, and I also tend to copy that when I talk to her.

Namjoonie knows the flow and the cadence of American speech so well too. That has a lot to do with why he speaks it as well as he does. That and he’s incredibly smart. He did spend some time in New Zealand when he was a grade school student, if I remember correctly. He was there for a pretty short time but it also helped. Though I can tell you from the experience of having spoken with a transplanted Kiwi that the cadence and accent are much different from a native speaker’s. It’s like a combo of Australian and the Maori language, much like how in Hawaii you hear the combo of English and Hawaiian in how they speak. So that actually makes Namjoonie’s accent all the more interesting in that he sounds so American!

He speaks as if he had been going to school in the US for many years. His accent was very good, even if it sounds a little mixed. That always suggests to me someone who had been in he US a long time. For instance I didn’t know Taecyeon grew up I the States and had seen him in various shows, But in the show Vincenzo, he would occasionally break out into English for some random reason, and you immediately notice his perfect fluency. Not just the words, but literally a straight up American accent and pronunciation. So much I initially thought “Is he actually American?” I read and learned about him and saw how he speaks English so well. That’s about how good, almost, RM is.

As a college student studying to be an English teacher, I hear Canadian and a tiny bit of British, but I also hear Ebonics or the Southern English accent and dialect. As someone who is also Black American, I can tell because that is what I'm used to hearing and speaking. This obviously has to deal with him listening to hip hop and gaining that accent and dialect. And how he chooses to use it. He DEFINITELY code-switches A LOT.

I hear a lot of west coast in the way RM speaks, especially LA. Also he is aware of and uses American slang expressions which I was really impressed by. I think the fact that he’s a rapper also plays into how good his flow his when speaking and how his accent was formed. He’s even better at speaking English in relaxed settings or when he’s practiced (UN speech)

being bilingual i love hearing from teachers and linguists talk about speech and languages. it's so interesting to me to understand the technicalities of it. when you are learning another language it's not mainly about the mechanics but more use any way or means to get your point across. I only speak 2 comfortably and working on the 3rd -- yet the main thing i get hung up on is not really the pronunciation but how to structure a sentence that is easy and makes the most sense.

It's actually crazy how much English RM had actually already known before debuting and how much he's actually improved after. Cause it's been 7 years since they debuted, and I know in some of his pre-debut logs he spoke English and it was already really good back then! I think it's really important to note that RM was able to get to this level not only through his "natural talent" for learning, but also through a lot of hard work and practice. And the guests kinda talked about how much hard work is necessary to learn and language and I appreciate that they mentioned it :D

NAMJOON having a 148 IQ can learn any language by himself including the accent in no time. He's that intelligent and pretty fast learner in terms of learning on his own. I'm in awe everytime I watch other people assessing his English speaking skills and accent. Namjoon has the ability to express himself pretty well in terms of public speaking or representing his group abroad, he has that skillset in language department that come so natural when he speaks. It's quite amazing how he learned and now he's using what he taught himself back then. Thank you for this. We appreciate you guys having good critics with our amazing leader Namjoon. 💜

Imo I think learning only through watching TVs is possible if, like John said, it's a supplementary. Personal story of mine. Aside from school subject, all my English learning or training was from TV and KZbin (not English lesson videos, but Minecraft lol). But the process was simultaneously done by having conversations with my friends who speak English. For me, learning English only from school didn't help that much aside from the grammar and stuff. Having conversations with native speakers really helped with the confidence and the pronunciations. Cheers

Well I can relate to RM I learned English at home too coz my mom let me see Sesame Street so before I entered kindergarten I already know how to speak English. I think it's easier to learn new languages when we're much younger like before I also know how to speak and write Chinese but now I tried learning nihonggo though I'm already know how to read and speak it really is soo hard unlike when I was younger. So to make it short exposing children in different things to learn makes them learn it faster.
