BINI’s songs are about inspiration and motivation for youth. what’s more remarkable about them is their meaningful lyrics and their choreography are so unique. Actually, in this music video of “Cherry on Top” they have showcased a couple of Filipino traditions, you may have noticed in the first minute of the music video the guy dipping bread into the glass of coffee. It’s a very Filipino thing for breakfast to dip your “pandesal” or bread into your coffee. And the part when Jhoanna popped out of the box, it’s actually called a “balik bayan box,” a package that came from the OFW or Overseas Filipino Workers that truly signifies their unyielding love to the family members who are left here in the Philippines. Also, in the latter part of the music video where the members are painting on the wall, and the others in the background are doing different things such as particularly eating a “banana cue,” and drinking “palamig,” all these things you can notice from the music video are the most common FILIPINO things. Despite the English language they applied to create this song, the production still managed to incorporate the Filipino atmosphere at its best. And I am living for that! I don’t blame Koreans saying this is quite not different from Korean music videos, after all, it’s your OPINION. Koreans paved the way, so Filipinos can walk the path. At the very least, I am just so happy that Filipino music is getting the recognition they merit, most of all for the Ppop community. Let’s spread possibility through music that transcends one nation to another! That’s all, good day folks!

Oh btw, “binibini” doesn’t mean the embodiment of the modern filipina, not even young lady. It merely means an unwed female because the term ranges from a post-menarche to a spinster of unlimited age. But “Bini” for me, by referring to this girl group, represents the heterogenous (aka unique) appearances of Filipinas as they all look different from each other due to our country being a melting pot of different races since the 1500’s.
