No judgement to your opinion, I'm just curious as to why you feel it's so disturbing? I always considered it be one of the most mild movies, on the spectrum of thrillers. But I suppose it depends on what other movies you've watched in that genre.

@@sierra4064 Its maybe that even from such a young age, it seemed that Kevin was aware of what he was doing. Like normally we would put kids acting out to age but with Kevin you just knew that he was fully aware of what he was doing and had no conscious or care for his actions.

@@MyBusanEscape That's a good way to look at it. I guess for myself, I've generally come to associate the word "disturbing" with gruesome gore. If I instead analyze his character, I could see how he may come off as "disturbing". Tbh, Kevin's character reminds me a lot of my older brother, who recently passed away, and who I love very much. It feels odd to compare Kevin and Meiko (my brother), since I can assume how people will judge him. My brother was a very unique and genuinely different person from the majority of people you meet in life. I find comfort and familiarity in Kevin's character, more then anything.

The fact that they reacted like that when being told what Dahmer did to his victims was funny. Here in the US, we are so used to being exposed to tv shows and movies that go into graphic details about serial killers. We’re not even phased anymore honestly. Many people even go to bed watching documentaries about this kind of stuff

@julespumachu
@julespumachu 3 жыл бұрын
Well....I'd respectfully disagree with the blanket statement that ALL of us in the U.S. are "used to" and "not even phased anymore". As our population is over 330 million people, not everyone is going to feel the same way (and if someone is truly not even phased by these issues, that person may have no empathy and be psychopathic -- and, obviously, have bigger problems to worry about). I do agree that we're saturated by the media and the entertainment industry with both real and fictional tales of violence and murder. Think of the incredibly high number of TV shows and movies we have presented to us. Depending on my mood and the story, I've occasionally watched true crime or "scary" (thriller/horror) things before sleeping. In my personal experience, it's VERY weird who is desensitized and who is not. People who've grown up around a lot of violence, and people in law enforcement, are not typically used to the violence. I believe they compartmentalize. Others seem to have led very safe lives (often involving financial security), and seem to enjoy being thrilled/scared (?) by the subject matter. Perhaps some of the things we discussed are the reasons we have so many citizens who own guns (I'm in no way delving into the politics of firearm issues and laws with this sentence). If you're reading this as a non-U.S. citizen, I hope I haven't shocked you or fed into stereotypes. There are good and bad people all over the globe. I posted this comment as a reply to the OP, who I'm assuming is intelligent and understanding of the nuance, complexity and challenges of our country.

It was such an amazing movie in the way it told the story from the parents meeting, to the moms early interaction with Kevin and seeing that he wasn't "normal", to how she tried to cope with what happened and live her life in the judgment of what her child had done. The film definitely made me look at parents/family of killers differently. Like, there are signs, but people think you're blowing it out of proportion, and they haven't done anything YET, so nobody takes it seriously... Until it's too late.

I read a book on serial killers, I’m weird I know. But it goes into all the detail that was left out when they blurred the words on how Jeffery Dahmer tortured them. Yeah it’s pretty gruesome though.

I think it their reactions to how gruesomely he killed them is actually kind of funny cause they are so pure!! Here in the U.S it’s not really all that shocking.

Isn't that so sad? How desensitized people are to something that should be so horrific no matter how many times you hear it. And that it happens so many times and nothing changes.
@strayckles6505
@strayckles6505 9 ай бұрын
It doesnt make them "pure". It probably just means they can still feel empathetic for the victims Dahmer has killed. You know, like any normal person would who didn't know who he was? I also subjected myself to a lot of gruesome stuff before, and I still felt so disgusted and horrified when my friend told me about him.

I read the book _A Clockwork Orange_ when I was in college, and I remember that Alex would sexually assault women and beat people up along with his gang, but everything changed when a man that he beat up actually ended up dying and he wasn't able to escape arrest. He would go on to become a "clockwork orange", which just means someone who is used by others, in prison rehabilitation experiments. I can see the movie being a bad influence, but the book is kinda fascinating, since it's about a teen entering adulthood and leaving behind his bad ways (and the author gives us a bunch of cool new slang for the kids to use, most of which comes from the Russian language). There are 21 chapters, signifying the age one becomes an adult (not really, but you get the idea).

We need to talk about Kevin is a lot more complex than just a Psychopathic case. I don't like how they explain it. A mom that has a Psychopathic kid? That's all? This movie and book are amazing.

I kinda wish whenever they react to things like this, they also get reminded that psychopaths are mentally ill people, and why tackling and promoting mental health is important. In Korea it's almost taboo to talk about this things, and they tend to see it in black and white. I really hope society gets better and start thinking of these things.
