Jeffery dommer killed and ate 14 boys. The worst part? One of the boys managed to escape and alert authorities but the police officer didnt do anything even though the boy was bleeding out of a hole in his head and covered in blood. He then handed the boy BACK to dommer and they boy was then killed. That same police officer? Got promoted and just recently had a huge retirement party 🙄

The cops didn’t believe him and when they took him back to Dahmer, they just believed that he was with him despite him being underage. It was an issue of strong prejudice from the cop which allowed him to get taken back to Dahmer.

i guess bc it’s not as common in Korea to hear new stories about this and most of the time it’ll get brush over or their law doesn’t have a harsh sentence bc again they don’t believe it could happen in their country (pls correct me if im wrong, down to learn more) an example is the case of Cho DooSoon where he kidnapped raped and assaulted an 8 yo while she was on her way to school. He would have gotten life imprisonment but the girl admitted that he smell like alcohol and the court LESSEN his sentence, believing that he wasnt in his right mind and couldn’t remember anything. HE SOMEHOW GOT RELEASED IN DECEMBER 2020 and is basically under house arrest and everyone protested and had riot about his release but their system fail the then 8yo and her family

A lot of times serial killers target sex workers because they are considered "less dead" (actual terminology) because they are on the lower rungs of society and oftentimes law enforcement doesn't deem their death important. That is why there is usually a high number of killings that a serial killer can get away with before the police do anything about it

If the state would stop treating their lives as disposable and put laws in place to protect them instead of criminalize them, then they would be able to seek help from law enforcement when they’re in danger without fear of being jailed and fined. They already have less than nothing to lose. We need to stop demonizing these people and instead demonize the systems that allow them to fall into situations where they need to put themselves in harms way to be able to eat.

This is my personal opinion but I think it’s because most koreans think its impossible to let be a person roaming around killing 10+ people when there’s eyes EVERYWHERE in Korea. Like literally. CCTVs everywhere and unlike the US, Korea is relatively a lot smaller country-meaning the density of people is high. So even if someone kills a person, its very VERY difficult to commit mass murders. Besides, as someone who is currently living in Korea, If a murder happens its mostly likely to be in the news that very day. Its not that people aren’t exposed much to these type of crimes but I think the media is more stimulating in the US compared to the media in Korea. IDK much about the focus on how the news report over there but I think that Korea is more neutral and’ info-centered’ if u know what I mean. To answer the question "why prostitutes?" Simply because they are easy targets to them, they can be lured into cars easily to give a service, taken to a remote place, killed and then abandoned. Also alot of times, at least in the past, police forces never really cared about prostitutes goin missing, so for killers it was easier to be prolific with the killings and go by undetected, sometimes in the span of decades. I find it despicable that police forces just don't care about these women just because of their occupation, they are still human beings and as such need justice and help

"Why prostitutes?" - in America they are rarely believed when going to the police, often afraid of being arrested because of their job too. Cops throw them in the same category as drug addicts, drug dealers, thieves, and just don't believe them. They are treated inhumane, as 2nd class citizens, as if they don't matter. There have been many cases where one told police of a serial killer and weren't believed...leading to that serial killer getting more and more victims before being caught. Even some cases where killers are arrested, serve time, then get out and the government changes their name to protect them. It's absurd. One started killing again, a prostitute escaped and told the police. They looked him up with his new name, no record, didn't arrest him...he killed again...got reported again...prostitute wasn't believed again...3 or 4 more women died before he was finally caught and admitted it.

We had one in my country who would go after prostitutes. The victims would all frequent the same places, he would strangle them then rip their organs. This happened in the 90s so he was dubbed as "Lisbon's Ripper". It's unknown why he stopped doing it since he was not caught. He never left any evidence and his crimes were deemed as perfect. 3 confirmed deaths but the number could have been higher as similar unsolved crimes happened in neighboring countries, the police suspected he was a truck driver. If he murdered the others, it would be a total of 9. Btw, if he was found today, he could not be charged under law as it has been more than 15 years since the crimes happened.

I think you should show these folks some videos about Korean serial killers - they don't seem to realize that this stuff happens everywhere. Lee Choon-jae only got arrested after he killed his own sister in law, but he confessed to murdering 14 other women. Because there is a statute of limitations on murder in South Korea, he was only tried for his SiL, and he could potentially be released from prison in 18 years. Yoo Young-chul murdered a bunch of prostitutes and rich old men and ate parts of them. Jeong Nam-gyu killed 14 people seemingly randomly over a two year period. And of course there are more... To be clear, this isn't supposed to be some sort of poor defense of the US and its serial killers, it's a suggestion due to the commenters' words regarding their own country's behavior. (The one guy at the end did comment on murder in Korea briefly, to be fair.)

Part of the reason serial killers used to be so hard to find was because they targeted random people. Most murders are done by someone close to the victim. Nowadays, DNA searching has made searching for criminals a lot easier, and hopefully we wont see such big serial killers in the future.

Several years ago, I regularly traveled to Washington state for work. I used to stop near a shopping center south of Seattle to buy some things or make copies for work, and I did not realize that the "creek" nearby was actually the Green River. I think one of the earliest victims of the Green River Killer had been found in that area in the early 1980's. It was really creepy to learn that I was in the same area. The Pacific Northwest is beautiful, but we have a lot of trees, and scary things happen in trees. (I am not from this area originally - all the trees make me stressed out, like...who is hiding in there?)

These are different things, a phychopath is: Someone who can easily pretend to be normal but deep inside they have little to no empathy for other people. This is normally a genetic thing Sociopaths are: More showing of their aggressiveness. I find it interesting how they see death as more of a punishment than spending decades (the rest of your life) in prison, probably in solitary confinement too where you would basically be alone in a cell for most of your life and THEN die.

That's because it IS a punishment. Most on death row do not want to die, even after being confined. You just adapt and find other reasons to live and experience joy. Some even get married and have children. Also, many people on death row have more than normal prisoners, and nicer things because they're under close watch more...so there are more chances for gaining favors especially if they're there for a long time. I'm sure there are those that would despise a life like this, but many DO NOT want to die.

It is a cultural difference. Children here do shooter drills like other countries do fire drills. Guns are everywhere. There are more guns here than there are citizens. There are whole genres of TV shows dedicated to different kinds of murders. Much of it seems to stem from domestic violence.

Gary Leon Ridgway, aka Green River Killer, worked at a Truck dealer down the road from my family and I's home. This was around 2001... after he had killed so many... I was about 3 years old at the time, my mother 30. I'm just so glad she had never encountered him. She had to travel past the workplace almost everyday in the late evening.

It may sound creepy but I took a semester-long course on serial killers and I did most of my papers on Samuel little so I've learned a lot about him and actually he passed away in prison from terminal illness in 2020 so December of last year he passed away so he only escaped the death penalty to eventually die in prison anyway so people are happy with the turnout there was no way they were going to release him anyways. And they're still looking for all of the victims he drew and talked about. he also targeted women who were prostitutes or drug addicts so it's hard to find information on them. Something else that I learned in that class was that apparently a lot of other countries view serial killers as a uniquely American issue and not something that happens in other countries. When in fact it does they just don't look for them or have things in place with their training and with their laws and with their investigation process to look for serial killers whereas because of the ones we've had we've put in a lot of practice and Research into serial killers and in fact we haven't had any in a very long time. What we face more now are mass killers and Shooters like the ones that we've had at schools

Living in the Seattle area means that any person you speak to who lived there in the 70's to 90's knew someone who was a victim of Ted Bundy and Gary Ridgway, or new them themselves. It's still an ever present factor in the area.

I get that people would want them to spend the rest of their life in a cell and rot away, but that just means you're giving them a chance to live, something they didn't givr their victims. Death sentences should definitely be more common with serial killers. Especially when the death count is almost at a 100 over 4 decades

Sadly, when it comes to sex workers, homeless people, or just poor people in general, murder is ignored - until the quantity is such that it can't be ignored, or until someone more "worthy of notice" pops up as a victim. Only then is attention, which then brings genuine effort, made to solve these types of cases. This makes the underprivileged easy victims for violence and crime, and why, in some of these cases, the perpetrator can continue committing their crime for decades.

I personally love reading true crime stuff, especially about serial killers. It’s just interesting but also you learn about what laws in place had them caught besides murder or other violent crimes. Also you see mistakes made by the killer or others that could have ended the killings after or maybe even before the first kill.

In general these killers usually target people in society who are less likely to be noticed to be missing and/or the police won’t care to properly investigate. Naturally sex workers and very poor people are considered easy targets for this reason

"why prostitutes?" As many comments have stated, prostitutes aren't treated quite the same as other citizens, generally seen as less than or not important. In some crime scene reports where there are dead prostitutes, the report will literally write "no humans involved". That and sex work is currently illegal in the us, so sex workers don't really have the option to report to the police of something happens to them, for fear of being arrested. Even if your victim gets away, they probably will not risk going to jail and getting their things confiscated to report what you attempted to do to them. And as mentioned by others, they're less likely to be believed if they do report.
