As someone who is LGBT, i didn't mind this experiment. I don't believe it was their intention to mock anyone. I actually think it was a good one because you could actually see Heejae and Hoseung thinking about how difficult this can be for LGBT people, which is something that cishet people just don't realize. But I can understand how some LGBT people found this upsetting, I hope you can include actual LGBT people in your cast in the future so you won't ''easily get away'' with something like a fake coming out.

I actually didn’t really like this trend becoz as a closeted person, this kind of feels like joking about the community even though I know it was made with good intentions, seeing what you wrote made me rethink about it. I think your solution would definitely help more than using this kind of ‘prank’ like situations as it may resonate with others as well as show how hard it is truly to those who doesn’t have to go through the anxiety and concerns.

I know this wasn't meant to be mean, but in reality coming out in Korea is not that easy and influencing people to try and come out puts them in danger. We are not straight and cannot take it back. I get that you're trying to be supportive but this is not how you do it. Get a cast member who is actually LGBT+ if you want to talk about the LGBT+ experience.

Im glad they're surrounded by loving people. My family didn't react well, I actually never wanted them to find out, but I slipped up and my mom found out. I was grounded for 4 months. Only one of my sisters and aunt are accepting. 6 years passed and my whole family (besides my sis) think that me being bi was a "phase". But now I have a one of a kind, wonderful and loving boyfriend that I love more than anyone else in the world so they accept that so I'm happy 🥰
@RaymondTywaif
@RaymondTywaif 3 жыл бұрын
Good to know that it's overall a happy outcome for you now. I think some people may need a longer time to become more accepting, because they might need to challenge their own perspectives on the concept of sexuality and gender in regards to personal morality and faith against the importance of your well-being and existence in their life. I personally feel that if their reaction is not too negative it's okay to give each other some space and time, they might come around if they cherish you enough, and if not then you deserve better with people who actually want to have you in their lives instead of desperately clinging onto someone in a way that'd only be unhealthy/toxic and exhausting for both parties. Anyway, if they really want these 2 hosts to touch on this topic from a straight person perspective, it's better to let them have a conversation with and reaction to actualy LGBT+ coming stories by LGBT+ cast/presenters. Cheers and may you have more fateful encounters with loving supportive people in your life and continue to be a happy contented person with a fulfilled life! 💐

I feel as though this video portrayed S. Korea as a progressive and lgbtq accepting country but it is very much so the opposite. The older generation spite the lgbtq community. There is a lot of outcasting and discrimination. For such homogeneous country this can be very debilitating for individuals. Maybe bring in an actual Korean lgbtq person to share their actual experience and struggles to raise awareness and help Koreans have a changed perspective!

@RaymondTywaif

The content is likely produced with good intention but the execution is kinda controversial and can be uncomfortable especially for those who have gone through bad coming out experiences as LGBT+ people. I think it's overall still a positive video with positive message and I still like it as a topic brought up with Korean perspectives, even though I had a few bad experiences, rough initial reactions and cold unconcerned reactions too (not that I've come out personally to everyone I know, and while I lost some friends, coming out really helps better my mental health in the long run as the overall experiences and the people who stayed worth it more). I'd suggest to try doing a similar idea but with actual LGBT+ people, perhaps sharing their stories, or to come out to someone they choose on screen fully understood what they signed up for and wanted to do it recorded. Both hosts are adorable and wholesome as usual though, their cheerful but sincere demeanor gives me fuzzy warm feelings.

Althought I am understanding of the fact that you made this with no bad intentions, this situation is a lot harder for people who are actually part of the LGBT+ community (like myself), so it kind of comes of as insensitive by the end when it's revealed as a joke or social experiment. We (lgbt+) have the actual risk of loosing people from our lives and rejection. From family members, friends and strangers who might hate on us and harm us without even knowing us. It's hard and hurtful because we might not even get accepted by some of the people we care the most. I just wish instead of doing this kind of videos with straight people, this chanel could be a platform that let's actual lgbt+ members speak about their experiences

As a bisexual and non binary woman, reading the title of this video really rubbed me the wrong way. I’m not out to any of my family and I’m not out to all my friends. I want to be but the thought of telling people sometimes sends me into a panic attack. I know that when I tell people, it’s not something I can take back. When I tell people, it could completely change the way I can navigate that relationship and that space. The thought of straight cis people pretending to come out as gay for a “learning experience” feels really off. Being LGBTQIA+ is not a hat you can put on and take off. Once you’re out, there will be people and social systems denying you your human rights. Every single day people like me are facing discrimination and violence and death because of homophobia and transphobia. There are FAR better ways to support the LGBTQIA+ community. Openly vocalising your support, learning more about their struggles by LISTENING to THEIR experiences, and so much more. Did the producers of this video consult any LGBTQIA+ individuals or groups before running with this? I haven’t watched the video yet as I’m scared to. The above is my initial thoughts. I will watch and then edit my comment if I have more to say.
@b0o0dlesn0o0dles
@b0o0dlesn0o0dles 3 жыл бұрын
Ok I have watched the video and I’m shaking and my chest feels tight. When the sentimental music came on it felt like such a slap in the face because the situation was fake. The love that Heejae’s mum and Hoseung’s friend expressed was genuine which was nice to see. But I think my distressed reaction to this might be… envy? Because I wish I could come out as easily as they just did and receive those reactions from my family and friends. As the other comments have said, it would’ve been 100% better to have ACTUAL LGBTQIA+ people do this. Their cishet friends could have been there sitting next to them, supporting them and feelings those emotions right along side them, and then discussed together after the phone call. Another way to make this video more genuine and actually helpful for the LGBTQIA+ community, would be to list help lines specially for LGBTQIA+ at the end of the video, including suicide help lines, safe counselling, and LGBTQIA+ friendly blogs and organisations. Likewise, you could include some websites or resources for allies to read and educate themselves. You could’ve had the profit from the ads of this video go to a Korean LGBTQIA+ organisation. Having now watched the video, I can firmly say that I am disappointed with how this (I’m sure) good intentioned video was planned and executed. To the people running this channel, please take into account the points I’ve made above and the other comments from LGBTQIA+ people. The way you respond to our comments and our hurt and our disappointment is very important. You can fix this 👍

You'd think, Korea, a country known for being advanced, would have beliefs in par to that statement. It's honestly sad that people have these conservative views in 2022. I know everyone isn't conservative, but it's a vast majority of ppl from Korea who do. I'm just glad those two from the video have people close to them whom were accepting of them. I'm never really sure how I feel about this new trend of non-queer people pretending to come out as a form of prank or social experiment. Your hearts as a production company are in the right place, to see how people would react, but I just hope you understand how easy it is for non-queer people to jokingly come out, to say it so loosely and then retract it once the joke or prank is rumbled. Queer people don't get the same levity; I can't even discuss LGBT rights with my mother while in the closet nevermind hint at myself being LGBT. I hope everyone who watches this knows this; and make sure you find real queer creators and people who come out and support them. This video was cute, but they have the benefit of being able to retract back easily whereas real queer people do not 💛

i appreciate the sentiment and the thought that was put into this, as there is very little representation in my community, however, I don't know how I feel about queer bating. even if its for good intent, I wish this video had real lgbtq+ koreans telling their peers that they're gay. Coming out to friends and family is extremely difficult and is often something that results in loss of loved ones, i know it did for me. I understand that this probably wasn't something that came to mind when making this video, but you guys are not actually queer and are able to take it back if your peers don't accept you without any harm being done. Nevertheless, thank you for sharing light onto the subject.

While Korea is still very conservative on these issues, it is nice to see that it is changing around a bit. Still, it's a tough experiment to pull of without people taking offense. The alternative would be doxing actual LGBT people for content, at least in this video there's no one's privacy is at risk. I know from what I've heard that while the majority of Korea is very sensitive on these subjects, there is a shift starting to come through with the younger generations. So it's nice to see, even after some surprised reactions, a general level of acceptance starting to grow. It's important for things like this to open up conversations and normalize acceptance. Once Korea is fully accepting we can argue about whether these things were the best method, but if they can have a positive change on how people treat the community, that should be considered a good thing.

this video just shows that everyone has different parents and friends. Not everyone is going to be as accepting and especially not the society as a whole. also, I do not believe people will think it's easy to come out in Korea just based on this video clip. If it was that easy, people would see gay people being comfortable on the streets and at work. It's even difficult to come out in some European countries, I can't even imagine how it would be in S.Korea. I also believe that the culture will change over time, some are a bit more on the slower side while some countries evolve faster. We can only hope that the newer gen's can be more accepting, especially the parents.

Coming out to my brothers led them to say "You better never come out to mom and dad they will be so devastated." Can't come out in society cuz in my field of work, ill be fired... Have a boyfriend of 10 years and I still cant hold his hand in public, introduce him to friends or family, or ever dream of getting married. I am 31years old and still unable to come out safely here in Korea yet their "experiment" makes it look so easy... I'm so sorry sweetheart that you're going through that. I pray that you find the right people to be around with and love you for you. I do not agree with videos like this because I think of the struggles people like you face and I have friends in the LGBT community and alot have gone through tough times. I like seeing people for them. Please know you are worth it and valuable and worthy. You're not less of a person to anyone who also reads this. My heart goes out to you. I would have been happier with someone from the community to be in the cast but I think problems could also arise. For example , if they already came out and were accepted by their loved ones it would defeat the purpose of the video. Then there's the gray area where people have been unable to come out to their loved because the society around them aren't accepting or allowing others to love who they love. You will be harassed , even be killed 😢 So I am not comfortable with this idea. I am a straight woman please don't bash me I'm not trying to make this about me. I love Awesome World, and I love Heejae and Hoseung, but this isn't it. As someone who is actually part of the LGBTQ+ community, coming out is hard. I know you didn't have bad intentions with this video, and you touched upon this in the closing remarks, but please be more mindful of these kinds of "experiments." While the cast may have felt a bit of the nerves that are part of coming out, they don't know the full effect it has, not only on our relationships with family/friends, but also with ourselves. Also, they could easily backtrack and say "oh, surprise! I'm just joking around, I'm not actually gay!" We can't do that and it oftentimes breaks a lot of our relationships because we find out that some of the people we trust the most, don't actually support us fully. I know there are going to be people who say I'm taking this too seriously, but I've had bad experiences with coming out. My friends have had bad experiences with coming out. But this video showed me that, even though they didn't really come out, they felt vulnerable. I could see they were not fully confident or comfortable, and they were touched by the responses that they got, perhaps even relieved? Of course this might not be true, it is just my personal observation about people I don't know after all. But what it did for me is the part that matters most. When I saw this I thought that when these people feel vulnerable and perhaps even a bit emotional, it must be 10x or a 100x times worse for people who actually have to deal with this for real. And since in my eyes they didn't joke, or aggressively(?) take it all back, it seems respectful. But of course I am not as emotionally involved as people who might be dealing with this situation in their lives. All I can say is that my respect for the people who can muster up that amount of courage in their real life scenario, and put themselves in such vulnerable positions, has grown after watching this video. It is always amazing how a different angle can make such a big difference on what we take away. I hope to learn and grow more like today, but always in a way that feels respectful for the people who are closest to it emotionally. Let's hope one day we can find the perfect way in the middle :)

You have to consider that Korean society is very different from the West and you cannot apply the same standards because it simply makes no sense. The fact that they make videos about lgbt in the first place is a huge thing. If there’s no lgbt staff working - maybe there’s a reason, like social stigmatization of queer people.
@xPidgexSmithx
@xPidgexSmithx 3 жыл бұрын
@@raiahy other Korean channels have successfully managed to make a call out to the lgbt+ community and have them in their videos. If they couldn’t find people for this idea, then they could have shelved it or used the idea in a different way. It’s incredibly tone deaf and really crass seeing hets play at being gay for a reaction, however positive that reaction may be, as if it all went sideways then they have the luxury of back tracking, we don’t.
@xPidgexSmithx

I love your content usually but this is so incredibly tone deaf. Having straight people play at coming out for a reaction is crass and doesn’t account for the thousands of people the world over that do it everyday and don’t have a good outcome, who’s life and relationships are changed beyond repair in some cases and who now aren’t safe. These people make it look easy and that is bolstered by nice outcomes but it isn’t and if it went sideways they don’t actually have to live with the consequences of that. The very least you could have done was cast actual lgbt+ people who did want to come out to others in their life, as other channels have done, It’s real, meaningful and encouraging that way.

AW, I'm this close to canceling my subscription. This is NOT OKAY to do. EVER. Straight people pretending to come out is offensive. Stop setting up the cast like this to be hated if this goes viral. They're good people. Ever since Yeseul left you guys started doing weird af stuff around race and sexuality. It seems less like you want to educate and more like you treat everything different as some experiment or something exotic. We're not your zoo people. Actually you know what. I am canceling my subscription.

I’m hoping that they actually read the comments this time and take these thoughts from their audience seriously… they have a lot of potential, but they need to be creative in a way that doesn’t feel so showy and forced (which leads to this kind of unintentional f*ckup)… like, maybe they underestimate the audience and think that we prefer forced situations over real conversations. They would be wrong🌸

As a member of the lgbtqia+ community, these videos actually make me happy because it's nice to see people being accepting of their friends/family coming out. Would it be different if it had a gay person instead? Absolutely, however I also take into account that there are many closeted people out there that aren't ready to come out so videos like these you can live vicariously through. Just another perspective.

@@rebma234 I think it would have gone over better if they had at least incorporated more of what a realistic experience would have been like or discussed how different their experience was from what a lot of people go through… there wasn’t much acknowledgment of that even if they mentioned that this would be hard to do in reality…

I actually stopped watching months ago because the channel is now all about sex, baiting, and gender (guys vs girls) and it’s just the same stuff repeated over and over. But this just really puts the lid on the coffin. They need a new PD or just to cancel this channel completely. The cast members already appear on other channels so they’re not losing a job or fame.

I understand that these conversations are important and that the people who made this video probably had good intentions, but this “experiment” feels a bit insensitive to me. It’s not really “coming out” if it’s not your truth, and it’s a lot easier to laugh about loved one’s various reactions to such news when you know their opinions on the matter don’t really apply to you. It’s just that there are people that have gone through this kind of thing and it’s often really scary and there are no take-backs or saying it was all a joke at the end. I just think those people and their feelings should be considered when making this kind of content in the future.
