Foodie Day in Koreatown Los Angeles!
We started our day at Sun Nong Dan. A popular restaurant that’s open 24/7 that serves a popular Korean braised beef short rib stew. We ordered a medium size, mild spice, Koh Galbi Jjim. It comes served in a bubbling cauldron full of short ribs, back ribs, ox tails, veggies, rice sticks, and melted cheese on top. Amazingly delicious!!
Our second stop was at the Dumpling House. This place specializes in handmade dumplings and noodles. We ordered a bowl of chicken noodle soup, pan-fried dumplings with ground pork and chives, and vegetable spring rolls. We both enjoyed the handmade noodles and dumplings, both having the perfect amount of chew to them.
For our third and final stop in our Koreatown foodie adventure, we visited Drips & Swirls. They specialize in unique flavored soft serve made with 100 percent real milk along with charcoal cones made fresh daily. We tried their Charcoal Toasted Rice and Captain Crunch soft serves in charcoal cones. Wow! The most creamiest and delicious soft serves we’ve ever had!
There’s a ton of eating options in Koreatown and we only scratched the surface with these three places. What a fun Foodie Day!
Sun Nong Dan, 3470 W 6th St, Ste 7, Los Angeles, CA 90020
Dumpling House, 3525 W 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90020
Drips & Swirls, 3076 W 8th St, Los Angeles, CA 90005
Check out our Instagram for more pics from our adventures! lewhoo220 and tacobill35.

Thanks for watching and we'll catch you on the next one!

Biggest population of Korean people outside of Korea is right there. I remember when it barely went west of Western starting near downtown on Olympic. It is amazing it grew so fast once those little strip mall properties were developed. L.A. can thank this urban design to Asian developers who built them along Olympic then out in the San Gabriel Valley and near Torrance. Koreatown is a very important destination for all foodies.

Great filming, love the close ups, I could almost taste the heat from the kal bi stew. I never saw melted cheese on Korean food before must be an LA touch! The portions are big but good news is there’s leftovers for dinner. The fried mun doo pork dumpling really looked delicious and the chicken soup with fresh noodles also looked really ono especially living here in Seattle in the winter months! Surprised you were out the door today in K town after your 3 hour visit to Kauai for tacos and all night flight back home to LA. I got your appetite but not your energy and zest lol!

Cheese has been around Korea but it became trendy about 10 years ago to put gooey mozzarella on stuff. It's common, and as a Korean American I find it baffling. Looks pretty good though.

Those soft serves were so creamy and delicious, and the charcoal cones nice and crispy! A bit on the high side for price, but we get it adding in the cost of operations, etc. That said, we'd come back again to try their other flavors.

WHAT A HOOT .... As you know I live in San Francisco. Just a few blocks from Japan Town Center where there are many, many outstanding Korean Eateries. NEVER yes never, not even one time, did I get a dish with cheese on it. And to put the torch to it at tableside...oh my. Your dish is outstanding and I, too, enjoy the short ribs and ox tails. Like to enjoy the taste of the food and hence ask for not hot. Keep on Keep on showcasing interesting eats. jmo

@billandlisa 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jerome! Yes, the table side blow torch made for great video content! lol We never would've thought about adding cheese to a dish like this, but watching other vlogs inspired us to try it, so glad we did. We're guessing that their 'mild' is Korean mild, not American mild. If we go back, we'll ask for extra mild. lol

Galbi Jim is never supposed to be spicy. It's actually more soy saucy and sweet. I'm just curious are both of you 3rd or 4th generation Asian American?
@billandlisa
@billandlisa 5 жыл бұрын
They did have a 'no spice' soy sauce option. May be the spice levels are a LA thing? Either way, it was nice to have a little kick in it. lol 2nd for Lisa, 3rd for Bill.

Do you guys think these were better than regular Korean BBQ?...though I totally agree the banchan makes the meal.
@billandlisa
@billandlisa 5 жыл бұрын
Your traditional Korean bbq is much different than the short rib stew we had, one coming in a boiling pot with veggies and rice sticks, and the other you grill the meat yourself. We love both! As far as which is better, it's all personal preference.

Bookmarked Eight Korean BBQ! That pork belly flight looks incredible! We're not big hot chicken people, so Howling Ray's isn't at the top of our go-to places. But, we did enjoy Hattie B's. Maybe one day we'll hit up HR's and get their 'mild'. lol Thanks for the recommendation.

LOVE you guys!! Sun Nong Dan: AMAZING looking food. Truly incredible looking! But what in the world were they loudly doing in the background with metal the WHOLE time!!???? Not even for us, but I couldn’t imagine spending so much money on a meal to have it interrupted so loudly the entire time!!!
@billandlisa
@billandlisa 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Sarah! We tried to filter out as much background noise as we could, but it was a bit overly loud in there. We're just glad it wasn't packed with people when we were there, otherwise you wouldn't be able to hear us for sure. lol We were seated next to the kitchen, maybe noise from there? Thankfully it didn't detract from our eating experience too much. =)
