Oh Baby! Did you know that a giraffe calf will stand within the first 20 minutes of being born? This means Korey has been on the move since the night he was born. Although he stays close to mom and is often seen nursing or napping, it’s not uncommon for Korey to get a burst of energy and go zooming around his stalls. This is what keepers call the “zoomies”, and he has had them regularly since he was only a few days old.
Korey is often most active in the mornings while keepers are feeding the giraffes their breakfast. He can be seen running and hopping around mom and between his stalls before running up to the mesh to say “HI” to the keepers and then zooming off again.
Early on he was still learning how to use those long legs and often tripped or slid before regaining his balance and running to mom to make sure she knew he was okay. Just like any baby, Korey has a lot of energy he has to work off before taking an afternoon nap.
