Great vintage synth. The Patch at 1:34 sounds like a Roland D-50, really awesome!

The sounds are still (2019) very usable. Many of the sounds can be compared to the dx7 except the piano sounds. The brass sounds are exceptionally good. And so are the glass sounds.

Some great playing, beautyful chords, yumyum! I once owned the ex-800 and the poly800. I think in memory of them I'm gonna buy a DW, based on your vid and 1 other that I saw on youtube. It sounds really great and love the lay-out too :-) Thank u 4 posting!

Thanks for the comment! Yes, in a few of my songs I've used the typical famous bass patch from the DX7. I don't know what the patch is called but it's used on a lot of great songs from the 80's (Kenny Loggins - Danger zone, Howard Jones - What is love etc.). I also own a Poly 61. Love that synth! A lot of people says the Poly 61 sounds low fi and I've never understood that. I think it's great.

Thanks! I'm no fan either of guys just fiddling with knobs on synths and showing of different filters etc. I want to hear a synth in action, in context so to speak, so you can hear what it could be useful for. AnalogAudio1 has made two great demos of the DW 8000 though. He made me by my unit.

Looking forward to your demo. Just love the MJ Moog sound. I read somewhere that they used two minimoogs for the sound on Thriller...

I really enjoyed your demo. Nice playing and also very skillful use of that "not so easy to use" pitch stick. After seeing your demo I cannot make any excuses after I buy a DW-8000. I used to own the EX-8000 and I always loved the combination of the digital waveforms with that juicy analog filter. There is something very special about the DW-8000 / EX-8000's filters. It's crazy that hybrid synths DW-8000, ESQ-1/SQ-80 and K3 are still so affordable. I try to get all of them while they are still affordable. For some weird reasons synths digital osc's + analog filters interest me more than purely analog synths.

+MiguelNeiglick The DW is indeed very nice. It is certainly very good at bell-ish sounds and other weird spacy stuff where you make good use of the excellent onboard delay fx. However, IMHO it cannot do bass, brass and lead sounds as good as the MKS-80 or the JX-8P.
@MiguelNeiglick
@MiguelNeiglick 9 жыл бұрын
Funny that you mention the MKS-80 as I just sold mine (rev4) just a few months ago. I guess I had some strange urge to get rid of all of my rack synths as I prefer to have keyboard versions. I always thought that MKS-80 was a very nice synth for bass sounds. It's a very special synth because it can sound like it's a half analog and half fm synth. When I had the MKS-70 (which is basically two JX-8P's in a rack) I always thought it was better for strings and pads because it's envelopes were on the slow side and the filter was soft. For me it was the best Roland analog polysynth when it comes to making those sort of sounds (yeah, I really mean it.. to me it even beat JP-8 for strings and pads). BTW, Some of the favorite sounds I made with the EX-8000 were bass and lead sounds. Probably wouldn't work on every genre but for my kind of music and for my taste it was perfect. managed to get some good bass and lead sounds from the EX8k. I usually produce oldschool psytrance and for me that filter works really well for that kind of music. Really underrated synth IMO.

I still own one. It was a really great synth. I am all soft synths now but I keep this for nostalgia.

Yes, the JX8P is a favourite of mine also. I use the JX8P on almost all my songs. Love the fantasticly warm pads and the fantastic brass sounds it makes. The Final Countdown patch (also used on So What - I was lucky and Taylor Dayne - Tell it to my heart) sounds awesome with a bit of reverb!

Yes the JX8P is wonderful. It hasnt got the bite and sonic range of the DX7. But what it does well, it does as good as it gets. And its brass and strings are second to none.

If I ever buy another synth, it will be a midied POLY61. Ive loved its sound for years. After the DX7 and ROLAND JX8P. Its my next favourite synth. But I champion the DX7. Because even after 30 years it so mis-understood. And even underrated. Everyone knows what it does well. I want to show what it does well that few know.

Awesome sounds, you "play the sound" very well. Very important. I'm an awful keyboard player myself, but still have one of these I purchased new. Handy when you need a midi controller or to plunk out some chords, etc. Love the fat bass around 5:25.
@roboticrealm
@roboticrealm 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, to able to play is as important as the sound itself or even more important. A mediochre instrument in the hands of a real musician can sound awesome, but an awesome instrument in the hands of someone who can't play is often a waste, well, at least most of the time. Still my playing in this video is not at all that good in my opionon, but it's ok I guess. The bass sound I programmed myself by listening and watching to this video: /watch?v=uVu0Jf1gJGk and trying to get the sound that was on there.

Nice work. I had a Korg poly61. Once and that could put out some great electro basses and spacey sounds. I noticed you said you turn to alot of other synths for bass. And I know you own a DX7. You should be turning there. Hopefully my next few demos will help you realize that.

Check out the bass in my next two demos Lukas, they will show the DX7 can do more than that famous electric bass patch. Including great techno basses. And even a great moog like bass that sounds very close to the one used in MJs Thriller. Whitney Houstons Wanna dance with someone. The DX7 is a killer bass synth. I have to show this soon. Theres nothing lo-fi about the poly61. If I could get one with midi id buy it. Listen to the legendary electro track.

@roboticrealm
@roboticrealm 10 жыл бұрын
If you mean what it is called then I have no idea. Most of the patches you hear I've collected from the web. I think I went through all Bryan Ressler patches and maybe some other patches from the internet and stored the ones I liked on my synth. Then I've modified or programmed a few of them myself. But that was perhaps two or three years ago so I don't remember at all what the patch is called. I suggest you go through all "Bryan Ressler - Korg DW-8000 Patches - Pallium" yourself and then you'll probably find it.

I'm not sure I can help. You have connected the line outs to a speaker or a mixer I presume? The headphone out on my synth doesn't work for example so...Have you opened the synth and checked under the hood to see if perhaps the cables are done for and needs some soldering?...You should probably get a technician to help you. If you don't know a technician try and go to the nearest music store where you live and get them to help you. By the way, what you mean by "it's new"?

@@roboticrealm If your internal battery is dead... the patches will be so scrambled, you may not get any sound out of it. Replace the battery (requires soldering), change the midi setting to receive 'all' data, and load in a sysex with new presets.

However I can't reply 'cause he/she has some kind of lock that prevents me from answering the message, so if you read this I say what I've already told others: Most of the patches you hear in my demo is not my own. If you just google "DW 8000 patches" you'll find almost all of them.

Do you think Jupiter-4 and DW8000 make a good pair in performance and sound?
@roboticrealm
@roboticrealm 10 жыл бұрын
Yes, I should think so. They are very different in both how they sound and how they work. They both excel in different things so I think they complete each other quite ok. Still, I think you would need a few more synths to cover even more ground. The Jupiter 4 is excellent for huge bass sounds, lead sounds and arpeggio stuff but it is a bit limited sonic wise. The DW covers more ground, but is not as fat and analogue sounding, and that can in fact, in some cases, be a good thing. If I were you I would also get a JX-8p and a Juno 60 but that's just me. It all depends on what you're after and what kind of music you're making...
@speedtribejp
@speedtribejp 9 жыл бұрын
roboticrealm Thank you for advise. I got DW8000 and Jupiter4 same as in your video. Also the Juno6, but not 8P, instead JX3P and AlphaJuno2. I hope to cover wide range.
@roboticrealm
@roboticrealm 9 жыл бұрын
speedtribejp Well, then you certainly have a wide range covered. The 3P is an excellent synth. I borrowed one from a friend two months ago and it sounds awesome. However, since I already have a Juno 60, Alpha, MKS80 and an 8p I wont pursue and buy one because the 3P is far too similar to what I already own. I was a bit surprised that I found that the 3P IMO sounded more like my Juno 60 than my 8P.
