@pmsan29 Good question. The "middle C" on the Electribe (meaning the sample at it's original pitch) is C5, which is why I eventually tuned there. Also, I didn't actually tune the new sample to F#.. I listened to it in it's un-tuned state and then found that pitch on the keyboard, which happened to be F#. Doing it this way, I can isolate the pitch (F#) and count up or down in semi-tones to the nearest C. By holding down "shift" in sample-tune mode, scoll up or down the relevant amount of steps.

@strayferal I understand you are right.. You can sequence two channels using the keyboard parts, and one channel using the drum parts (although I can't figure why anyone would want to do that. In fact, often, when I play live, I sequence a couple of channels on a synth module to add depth and polyphony to the synth parts. (I understand the sequencer is mono, but on a poly synth patch I can set the release high for multivoice playback). I often use the Roland JV series, Korg M3r, Wavestation SR..

@ElegyForTheMasses The MPC's are a superior sequencer, especially if you are planning on using it to sequence other gear, which the ESX is useless for. If you are planning on just syncing the clocks and mangling samples the ESX has more features. Be prepared to use craftiness to get around the miniscule sampling time of the ESX.. If you go for the MPC, make sure you get JJOS. Google it if you don't know what I am talking about.

@strayferal You can sequence your MM6 with an electribe easily, you just need to have the channels set correctly, plus open the relevant MIDI filter on the ESX/EMX. Select "Global", hold "Shift" + "MIDI Utility" pad (different on SX and MX), scroll to filter and make sure the "N" is "O" (open) in PCEN.

@danieklerr Not exactly useless, I've seen vids of ESX/EMX sequencing some monotimbral synths. I don't have any, tried to sequence my Yamaha MM6 which is a multitimbral synth and didn't worked, will try again later. However for the record - it is possible to sequence external gear with an Electribe.

Hello.. Here's what I would do: Open up the panel on the back so you can see the tubes. Next to the tubes, there are tiny little trim pots.. You will need a screwdriver to adjust these. Turn the main volume all the way down and the tube gain all the way up. Play a pattern and turn up the main volume to a comfortable level. Now adjust the small pot next to the problematic tube until the levels are the same. I hope this helps!

@purityofnoise Hey, no problem; I am glad to help.. Also, even if you're Buddhist, you can still get something out of James. It doesn't matter if you are Buddhist, or Rasta, or Zoroastrian, or Chinese, or Italian, or in a wheelchair, or 45, or an electrician.. God's Word is beneficial and universal! :)

Your videos on the electribe are great! Been an electribe user for years now and I'm still learning new things about it. Have you ever messed around with different tubes on your electribe?

Good god that was nice, like a grand piano from hell. And just from a mistake recording to. I need to spend more time with my esx. Ty for the tutorial, this gets into the guts of sound creation.

@purityofnoise There is no effective way to delete all of the pattern data at once without deleting samples as well. If you want to keep the sounds, but you wish to delete PATTERNS ONLY, then you have to delete each one by hand (shift+pad 7 "clear pattern"), then SAVE each one. IF YOU WISH TO ERASE EVERYTHING, INCLUDING SOUNDS (THIS CANNOT BE UNDONE!! BACK UP YOUR FILE ONTO A MEMORY CARD IF YOU WISH TO SAVE IT!!!): Turn the machine off. While holding down "Global" and "Write", turn it back on.

@tomfurstyfield Very, very true. Unfortunately, this video was made when I was quite new at video making and I was having trouble getting my mixer audio to match the video audio. To top it off, I also used low res to speed up the rendering process. Sorry. =( Fortunately, the information in the video is quite relevant and useful! =)

first: amazing tutorials, help me a lot.. I have a question and think you know about, I see you chage your tubes, so.. I get a electribe and notice my left channel is loud and distorted if i dont press play for a time, the right channel is aways great, but left only turn up if i put the volume and gain valve at 60% and press play for seconds, so both channel works great. I just ask if you know what is it and if i need to change the valves, because its terrible

ya man i can hear your techniques that you teach on the stuff that you play. like the play through the sequence and the motion sequence restarts. its a good way to start with something filtered and instead of having to unfilter them manually it just pops back. very very cool man. you are a deciding factor for me to go hardware and say fuck this software shit.

Dani, Thank you, I do what you said time ago but did'nt work, the tube still working like if need more "booster", but i discover de problem: bad flex cable conections, just open, clean all and start working like a badass, the tubes now give me great power and the left channel stop to fail.. Sorry to write so quickly, you deserve better than that (youtube only give 300 characters..heh). Keep moving with tutorials and amazing beats.. :)

@danieklerr Thanks for the quick reply! I'll probably end up picking up an mpc1000. There was a really nice one on ebay fully loaded with upgrades that even though I bid $600 on it, it sold to someone else for $600 :(
