Korg Kronos Tutorial: Kronos EXs Sound Library

Thank you Korg. These videos are long overdue. I love my Kronos but its operating system is very difficult to get to grips with. I feel as though I don’t really fully understand my Kronos. More of these please.

I think you should use Ableton as an external sequencer. Then you bounce them individually. Tasking. But the Kronos sound quality is unmatched.

Ridiculous how complicated this is.... I tried to load a library back in 2016 via email with the help of a Korg rep, I gave up. I'll try this video.

We managed to solve the problem. What I thought was the code to unlock the demo version was not yet (which consisted of 23 characters), I had to replace the code with the code which already consists of 24 characters. This way, the tones are now fully functional (they do not fade out every 10 seconds).

It is worth mentioning that the exsins file can only be installed from at USB drive and not from internal hard drives. I started by FTP transferring the folder to the Kronos but the installation would not run directly from the internal drive.

endless and repetitive steps: load this, load that, load this, authorize that.....it is one royal pain in the rear, seriously.....miraculously, I did it when I upgraded the OS and had to load in the Berlin Piano, but I pulled hairs out over it and it took me forever to finally get it right...absolutely, and unnecessarily complex and difficult.....

I have some small libraries that only use less than ten slots/patches. I would like to load additional libraries into the remainder of this bank. But when I select Append and load the next library, it overwrites the first slots. Is it possible to load the next library into the empty slots and not overwrite the used slots?

did you ever get help with this issue? I'm having this exact issue with the nautilus right now. making me want to send it back and just go with a different board, thought I love the korg sound.

@@JTheProducer I think I did eventually solve this, but the details escape me as I have not done more than play the instrument for the past year and a half. But there is a way to tell the system where to load the library. It's maybe not as intuitive as it should be, but it's possible.

Do USB thumbdrives need to be formatted as FAT32 for this procedure? If so, maybe amend the video to reflect this fact?

Sad there was no reply as I'm seeing the same information saying to to only use fat16 and then reading a readme file associated with the sub firmware update that says to only use FAT32. This is why I always go slow updating firmware that can brick your board if something goes wrong. I'm up to date on KronosX with all updates going to K2 with KRS-07 sound pack and FAT32 is working without issue. But this may very with certain EXs based on what's written as fact so it should be confirmed which format is needed.

Al of my program banks (UAA-UGG) are already populated with at least some programs. Can I specify that the program files only paste in after a certain number (eg - program files only get pasted after UGG-23 in Bank UGG)

I have a Kronos 2 73, and info from the user's forum, EX -S 19 is free for Kronos 2. The site mentioned above does not seem to work no matter how many times I tried. Any help is much appreciated.

Just visit the "standard" site when you enter "korg shop" in google. There you have to first register your Kronos by entering an email and various information about your address, the dealer you got the kronos from and the ID of the Kronos itself. After that, I guess it takes some time till your info is validated (at least in my case I had to wait 2 days). After that, when you revisit the site and "My Kronos" you should be able top log in. Then you can see on the bottom left "registered products" your kronos. Now the site knows you own that kronos and when you proceed the "buy" steps for the EX-S19 Lib, it should automatically be updated to 0$ in the cart. That was my case.

I just got the titanium edition which is supposed to be like the newest one, I needed to go to the original kronos page to find the shop because somehow they have nothing there, and then felt like 2003 trying to understand if I actually got any bonuses with the workstations.. thank you so much sir

After paying and getting an active link to the KRS-07 Sound Pack how do you get a link to the EXs-17and EXs-18 files too so you can finish the install? The 3 links shown at checkout are gone and no email (I saw) was received after purchase with the links. After purchase I have the link to KRS-07 Sound Pack and the EXs 17 & 18 unlock codes needed in "My Kronos" being shown but no link to the EXs 17/18 files and can't find them as they are not listed with the other EXs sound files for some reason.

I made a reply to a comment below, but I might as well let everyone see it. "don't feel bad. I went to download install KAPro Epic Composer Private Collection today and it won't download because the KSC files take up too much memory. So halfway through installation, I have to abort it. I tried to make room by deleting things, like in Windows. Bad mistake. I accidentally went to load a song and all the files with it to see what it even was from a few years back to see if I still wanted it. So, it loaded, to nowhere, and then it deleted every f*n combi that I had been working on and refining over the past several years. GONE! I am beyond livid. There has to be another way to do all of this. Why can't it be more cut and dry like Windows functions. I feel like I was in the REG mode on a PC and wiped it out. That's how I feel what happened on my Kronos. All my hard work for combis for songs that I had yet to release. ALL GONE! and, still no KAPro Epic collection. What a way to end a f*n year. All my life. Nothing but being taken from, used up, and sent spiraling backwards or down. Why can't I just finally f*n die. " Sorry, actually not sorry. I'm just done with it all.

That sounds like a nightmare. I have about 4 years of combis and custom programs on mine and I can understand how devastating loosing them is. You probably already know this but you can back up the korg fairly quickly although like everything the steps are not real obvious unless you speak korgish. I'm an engineer and I was trying to learn on the forums or even in the manuals. But I was limping along pretty badly. I resorted to an online instructor. I highly recommend it. No joke the first 3 lessons I asked for were on file management as I could not make sense of all the file types and how to load them. There is also a free program call PCG Tools that makes much faster work of file management. I watched a demo on it and loaded it but haven't learned it yet. It's small consolation but the new stuff you will create will probably be even better.

@@snakedike I only hope that the new combis I create will be better. I did however do a backup not too long ago at least. When I was in disk mode one day, opted to "SAVE ALL". I saved it to a USB stick and from there I put it in a folder in my WD Passport in case I need it. So it looks like I may. By looking at the names of some of the files, I hope that some of my best ones can be put back into the Kronos. I have yet to reinstall saved files from "SAVE ALL". I pray it works. But yesterday's move to attempt to open a song file and its contents took out all my combis from the end of INT-D to USER-A or however it's labeled. So you know how many combis can fit in one of these, let alone all of them. All of them gone from 4 whole groups as I mentioned. Probably better than 200 or so. Can't even think straight to remember. I feel like a part of me died. I used these custom and painstakingly made combis that I refined to the T, for songs I composed to use them with. They aren't the songs without those combis I made specifically for each one. There is not way to reproduce certain things in life. Some things can't be repeated. So on top of this issue is trying to get the Kronos to be recognized by the PC. So because of Windows, that happened. I tried help videos and web pages to fix it, but I can't make it work. I also can do a subsystem firmware update, which I still have not done. That update probably could fix the problem of why I can't install the damn thing to begin with. Suppose improve communication between the Kronos and a PC. Is it just me?? geez.

Oh, I just learned something else that I did wrong when I did a backup. I didn't select ALL of squares to make them all "red" in the SAVE ALL. So now that after all this time that I learn this, my last backup didn't save everything. I've tried to find information like this before and I never could find all I needed. I found that information here > kzbin.info/www/bejne/j160pXSvm55rpLM. Also. I lost over 300 custom combis and all of my custom programs. I created real sounding voices to use for singing parts. I don't even remember how I made most of them. :( And, I still can't load the new library. not enough memory for the KSC files. What do I have to do now, go in an physically install another RAM stick? I only started with 2 Gbs.

@@salmonella4u Not sure I understand what you are experiencing. The KSC files (somthing like korg sampling collection) do not actually contain sample files. As I understand it they are assembly files, just containing the information on how to put everything together. As such they are much smaller than say the pcg files (programs combi's and global). Not sure if you are okay getting some instruction but I'd recommend checking out Audora.ca. You would want to have a web cam so you can show what you are doing and I use skype when I work with Dave. If you are interested, click on services from his web sight and look at the how-to lesson. You will be blown away by how good he is for the price. One thing, if he doesn't respond to you right away, comment back to me and I will put you in touch. When I signed up, for some reason he wasn't getting the information.
