Yes if it's a recorded sound/sample you'd take your sample and create a program, then assign that program to a timbre in your combi. If you're wanting to do something like that without a sample, but you want to use internal sounds, and have it automatically play, then you'd probably want to use either Karma or the arpeggio to do this. You'd assign your string program to an empty timbre in your combi, and then assign either the arp or karma to run it. Check our site if you don't yet have the dvd

how can you assign a recorded sound to a combination...Let's say I want to have some background strings that do something else while I play a piano. I want the strings to start playing when I play the piano. Is this possible?

Yes, these were filmed around 17 years ago when our audio wasn't dialed in, also these were compressed as to fit on CD ROM, so the file size had to be ridiculously small. Now our videos are 4k.
