+Derpancakes I have boycotted Guitar Center. Everyone there is like a used car salesman that knows nothing about the products they are selling. And everything is overpriced there! I bought a new Ultranova from them, and when I got home the box did not contain the usb cable, the power supply or the microphone. I took it back, got another Ultranova and the main filter knob had been broken off! I took that one back, and they said they had to order another one from the factory, so I had to wait two weeks. Geez! What a rip off. I'm getting my stuff from Sweetwater, perfect circuit, control voltage, etc. What a mismanaged organization.

I concur. I had a terrible experience with some prick who worked there a while back. I was looking for a small solid state amp for my little brother who was turning 12. I saw this cool little Vox with a cab and head. I think it was a 10" speaker with 30 watt head. I asked the salesman about about it and he smirked and looked at me and says "Heh, it's cute I guess. Hehehe" and looked away to start talking to his coworker again. I looked at him and said "Wow, your an asshole huh?" He started bitching at me about it and said something like "What should I say when you're asking about a toy?" I flat out told him, "Look dick head, this is a gift for a 12 year old kid. Not everybody needs a Marshall fucking stack to measure up to your standard of what's acceptable and not going to make you scoff and snicker." I told him he should go work at a indie record store with an attitude like that. It felt so good to tell him off. People who were standing close enough started to laugh.

I absolutely love this thing. Been playing/buying/collecting synths since I got my Pro~One in 1983. I've had or still have all of the greats... Junos, Jupiters, Oberheims, you name it, I've had it. But for the 4 note polyphony, this machine is seriously capable and sounds amazing. In conjunction with my JP-8000, microKORG XL, and Micron, those 4 VAs can run circles around a room full of my cherished vintage toys, and without fuss.
@GrootsieTheDog5 жыл бұрын
Just bought one in really nice condition in the original blue. Sooo excited to get it! It's great to hear that you still love this machine. what's the advantage to having the microkorg in that setup with it being the same engine as the ms2000? i understand that was 4 years ago, and prices are probably different now, but I'd think that two MS2000s would be more useful since you can poly chain them if needed.

Man, looking back a few years, I wish I'd gone with one of these guys over an R3. The R3 has way more effects and potential, but in my workflow I rarely access all of its features- meanwhile, the MS2000 seems to have a way warmer (dare I say, fatter) timbre to its filters/oscillators.

I have both and I hook then up together all the time...I'll say I'm pretty sure it's (the R3) almost the same architecture as the MS...they sound very much alike when playing the together. That would be a big mistake, I have both and the Hydra is a far better sounding, far more flexible machine and even easier to program, stick with it.... the MS2K has its charms, I love it and have always thought it very much under-rated but the Hydra sounds better than any other digital synth I own... 5 LFOs, 5 Envelopes, 2 Filters, 3 wavetable oscillators & a 32 point patch matrix trump a 2 OSC, 2 LFO, 2 Env, 4 point patch matrix alone, not to mention 4 fx engines vs just a delay & a chorus/flanger etc... the only thing the MS2K has the Hydra doesn't is the mod sequencer and you can get the Hydra to do all that pretty much in other ways... and the arpeggiator is from another planet!

Is it true that microkorg is essentially the same synth ? This one sounds way phatter.
@jackgilbert50775 жыл бұрын
fotis karagiannis my understanding is that in a nutshell, yes. They use the same audio engine, with the primary difference being the physical hardware (the microkorg has five knobs while the MS2000 is knob per function, so programming the microkorg is generally less intuitive and takes longer). Check out Cuckoo’s Microkorg patches video to get a good sense of how capable the microkorg is if you take the time to program it!
@jameshodson34504 жыл бұрын
Yes but with "improved" D/A convertors, which is why it doesn't sound quite the same and the micro doesn't have the mod sequencer and is a ball ache to program in comparison but otherwise apparently the same but far more portable... I've often considered getting a micro to take out live as the MS2K is far less portable & just midi dumping the sounds from one into the other but still haven't tried this out

Has PerfectCircuitAudio done repairs on a Korg MS-2000? One common problem is the power cable jack input being loose and needing to be pushed into a "sweet spot" in order to turn on. I don't know if it just needs to be soldered or what.. Still have found much information on people actually fixing this, but I have a feeling it's fairly simple. I have TWO MS-2000s with this same problem and would love to get them fixed if someone has had to deal with / and knows how to repair this problem for sure.
@e-conrecords46657 жыл бұрын

@PerfectCircuit8 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean by output level? Like the volume? It's hard to say if they're the same. The synthesis engine is technically the same. The MicroKorg is built on the MS2000's engine, but it's arranged in a completely different way. The MS2000 is more knobby and fun to play with while the MicroKorg requires you to dig very deep into menus to access the same parameters. The MicroKorg is more for playing presets in a live set while the MS-2000 is for the synth lovers. Hope that helps, ask away if you have more questions.

Also, there are a lot of excellent free MK XL+ patches available online, & loading (or saving) them with the PC editor is ridiculously simple & fast.

Loads sold, though not many for sale. They are either unreliable or much sought after. I always thought it was a better sounding synth than the JP-8000. A lovely offering from Korg. Why did they go down the over complex Z1 route? This is a fun synth that is easy to work with. Expect some surprises. I never managed to get my head around the Z1. Shame, because I suspect in the right hands it would be an amazing synth.
@binkyboobosh19 жыл бұрын
I can imagine that they would be very popular. Korg turn out some great stuff. They didn't keep up the pressure as Roland did with the Gaia etc. The z1 and associated moss synths were highly complex and needed a full set of controls to have the appeal they deserve. The ms2000 remains one of my favourite synths.
@kurtzmenabrea9 ай бұрын
It's a nice synth to look at, but it's essentially a toy without substance. Very little polyphony, and often monophonic. Toy sounds. After all, it has the same engine as the Mikrokorg. Maybe it's good for kids under 12 who love techno, house, and various stupid things... for a barely decent entry level, start at least with a SEQUENTIAL Prophet 10 (the minimum) otherwise don't buy the synths.
