For some reason when you said the queen had an MS10, it went unchallenged in my brain. I just sort of thought 'yeah, that sounds about right'

Surely the queen would have an MS20? Less than 2 oscillators simply won't do

being (due to my ooooooooooold age) the proud owner of almost all the original Korg range of that period (and the earlier generation too, the "traveler" ones), I have to admit that my favs remain the MS 20 (Mk I = raging filter), 800 DV (my very first synth, bought in 76) and the MP-500 (micropreset). As for the filter, the best deal is to buy an MS20 kit (which I did), allowing you to swap easily between all the filter modes (a bit like with the Prophet 5 or Arp Odyssey)... plus, the MS20 kit has a cool flat form factor (proof again that the MSs are indeed big empty boxes (but great then for circuit bending - or hiding away furbies, your choice), and talking about circuit bending or customizing, the MS kit is a dream come true: lot of free holes on the front panel and connecting points on the circuit board to add new patch points... last but not least, thanks to its flat form factor (again), the ms20 kit can easily be placed in front of its ancestors' kbds (which I did, with a rack including MS10, MS20, MS50, SQ10, MS02, MS03, MS10 mini, on top of a stage echo 500... just the VC10 missing... too expensive when it was originally released - and too expensive now too on the vintage market). Anyway, about the prices : my M2 20 cost about FF 3200 when I bought it in 77 (or 78) which was something like £ 250, and the MS10 was at FF 2500 (£ 200)... (compare to the FF 10,000 of a 800DV or FF 12,000 of a mini Moog model D in the same time frame or FF 8000 of a synthi AKS - the Putney VCS3 was more expensive, hence never owned one... huge regrets, all the more now that I live 300 yards from Putney High Street, on the other side of where Peter Zinoviev lived, by the river :-)

Awesome! I love mine, I have the grey-faced MS10 and MS20. I also bought a MS20 mini for modding (didn't want to drill my vintage original), which now has a PWM pot wired into the LFO and oscillator sync switch (just add two diodes and you're sorted). The MS range are my favourite vintage monos!

It’s good that you’re doing a reverse teardown. It’s often easier to take something apart than to get it back together, so showing it this way is probably more helpful to people than the other way around.

There is something, I can only describe as a bit special, and almost "organic" about the sound of the MS10. It's probably the most inspirational synth I own. I bought it pretty much on a whim, with very low expectations of it; I mean, just how much can you do with a mono synth, right?! Wrong! I've since gone on to get rid of my Juno 6, JX10 (x2), MKS70 and JD800 and replaced them with another MS10, ARP Axxe (x2), Avatar, Korg "Odyssey", Roland SH-1, Teisco 60f, MS20 mini and Moog Multimoog. Unfortunately, I'm a talentless tosser with a load of "classic" synths, that I don't deserve, so.... if you're in the London area and fancy giving me a fair price for any/all of them (I did retain my Korg Polysix and Roland D50 btw), then drop me a line.

On speaking about the arturia drumbrute, if I want to give the knobs for pitch more and accurate range what part of the synthesizer do I need to upgrade in order to give the pitch knob greater detail and clarity resulting in a higher quality sounding drum machine. I don't hate their product but their pitch knob in general is low quality.

Seeing the keyboard makes me wonder if there would be a possibility of a video on making CV keys. Like, modding a cheap keyboard for it or something like that. I don't know how popular/expensive are standalone keybeds like the one on the MS10 online, but I assume there's a fair bit of "vintage gear repair parts" tax on them?
