Korg Nu:Tekt TR-S and HD-S EFFECT PEDAL Kits - First Look

It's not often that when a new overdrive, distortion or fuzz pedal is released you say to yourself, "now this is different!". Well, this is exactly the case with Korg's Nu: Tekt branded TR-S Power Tube Reactor and HD-S Harmonic Distortion effect pedals. These pedals certainly push the ordinary boundaries of what you would normally expect from tube/overdrive/distortion/fuzz-type pedals. Besides the versatility and type of tones that these pedals are capable of, one of the quirky advantages of the Nu: Tekt series is that you assemble these yourself. The kits don't require soldering, and the necessary tools for assembly are included.

The Korg NTS-1 digital diy synth was more hands on, I was a little disappointed how little there is to do, but still impressed with the tube pedal, seriously considering ordering one. Great overview.

The power tube reactor pedal I definitely could add to my ampless bass rig. Got a Ampeg preamp which I run into cab IRs. I could definitely add this after the preamp to add a bit of tube warmth and compression. And the pedal could also be like a compression pedal for people who don’t like compressors.

Also if you are running a solid state amp which has a fx loop I would run the pedal in it.

Man, its a shame that most of the Tonex and other types of profiles I come across all the whole amp instead of just the preamp, it would be cool to use the power amp pedal on them. They are still both really cool and different. I might have to get the Harmonic Distortion. I wonder though, why didnt they just cut out the enclosure for the small knobs instead of having to remove the cover and use a screw driver.

Did you ever try the power tube reactor after a preamp but before a clean power amp or cab sim? How about in an fx loop of an amp to simulate the power amp being tube and fully cranked up? Was it always in front of the amp?

No we haven't but we will give it a try as some stage

@@Noisegate I just got mine in tonight. Seems like it’s meant to go in front of an amp vs in fx loop. If you want to try a power amp emulation pedal that’s analog, 9v, and will blow your mind on sounding like a great tube power amp, check out Axiom Effects PAE-1 Power Amp Emulator - in fx loop, or after a preamp before the cab sim or clean solid state power amp, or even in the fx loop of a tube amp but you don’t want or can’t crank it up loud enough to get that tube saturation/compression/soft clipping etc, try the PAE-1. I’ve stopped using my Fryette PS2 attenuator with my 50 watt Plexi clone completely because the PAE-1 plus my JMP tube preamp sounds so authentic. No tubes in the PAE-1 either. Just a well designed analog power amp emulator.

Great review. What would have been cool and I doubt you'll be using the screwdriver in future tests, would have been if you had painted a little black line on the back of the screwdriver so we could see exactly how much you are turning it. Still, really great review.
