If you want this sound as part of a larger studio set up with a DAW, the Minilogue XD is an excellent value way to go. That’s what I did. It’s not my main instrument, but I can add these sounds and textures to recordings with the 4 voices available.

Vintage & Analog definitely sound totally different. I choose vintage. For example: Roland Jupiter 8, SH-7, 5. This guy sounds more identical in character as my V-Synth GT. Only the GT has tons more possibilities...

esquilax is your in a position where a $1000-$1500 is far out of reach, a used XD for a few hundred bucks is a good deal. And it’s not nearly 1/4 of the synth. It has 2 huge features of the Prologue: sequencer with automation and 3 effects at once. I personally prefer the Prologue, but if you’re on a budget the XD makes total sense. How could you not get that?

People who came here expecting something like a Polysix should stop being so hard n picky towards the Prologue, This is a modern synth, NOT VINTAGE its not designed to emulate a OBX or a Jupiter, Modern sounding synths should sound thin in certain situations you dont always need warmth, get off the bloody vintage trip and enjoy these beauties for what they are, instead of nit-picking the weaknesses lets focus on the strengths of which this synth seems to have in spades...
@factckzone7533
@factckzone7533 6 жыл бұрын
Okay, it's a modern synth, NOT vintage, so what? It's okay for people to make comparisons and expect certain similarities since it's being sold as a Flagship with a vintage sound-alike . People, like me, that are considering buying this synth needs to know the weaknesses as well as the strengths. It's NOT nitpicky to want to know all the features that are missing. For instance, it has just 1 LFO (!!!) it lacks polyphonic after touch (!!!), there is no motion sequencer (like its siblings), a limited mod matrix, a limited arpeggiator with no pattern editor, no CV, and no midi thru. It also lacks a switchable 2-/4-pole Lowpass Filter that the Minilogue has. At $2000 I expect these features. While I applaud all the features it does have I am disappointed, as a potential buyer, by all the typical features that synths half its price have and that I can absolutely use.

I've demo'd a fair number of classic analog and modern synths, and to my ears this is one of the few modern analogs that can match that certain something that classic analogs have. Sure it doesn't have a lot of modulation, but neither did a lot of the most popular synths of all time. It's got a very distinct character and a rich sound. If I ever have the room for another keybed I would definitely consider this among my top choices. Unfortunately I prefer desktop modules to save space and to allow me to use my preferred keybed.

This is a very good point. Any keyboard over a certain size should be able to pull master controller duty and this one is about that size. I hate finding out things like this after the fact. I like this synth... I have a couple of lovely analog synths... Voyager XL, Sub 37 (which I've considered trading for a dominion 1) & Jupiter 6 with Europa kit & Im really liking how this sounds. I played with one & it's different. The Europa Jupiter 6 turns it into whole different beast & can't be compared with much else. It's not a Jupiter 8, but wasn't meant to be I believe? Have been gassing over a Sequential Circuits or DSI synth but just can't quite decide on one. I like the filters on both the new sequential synths, one lotto winnI wished, but don't we all! The versatility of the Prophet 12 & Rev 2 seem great, but don't connect well with the filters, sound is so personally subjective. I'm wondering if this Prologue is a happy medium

If you get the opportunity at a store or in a studio, play the Prologue 16 v next to your Sub37. That's what convinced me to buy it. I get mine tomorrow. If anything add the MFB Dominion. I most likely will but I am keeping the Sub37. It does so much that I am not parting with it

I actually am starting to like this synth. It sounds better than the prophet in my opinion, probably because I prefer VCO tone to DCO. Sucks that it only has 1 LFO and no mod matrix? Also, this video doesn’t sound as good as some others I’ve seen. All in all, I think it’s a great synth for the price, especially used for cheaper. I’ve never owned a korg, besides some volca stuff that I sold because it was just too cheap and my hands are very large. I think this may be a good solution to owning a good sounding VCO poly with additional digital oscillators thrown in.

I think the Prologue sounds quite metallic and industrial compared to my Prophet-6, which sounds "woody" and organic to me. However it's what sound you want. The Prophet-6 presets I don't like much - but making my own sounds on it, I find many that I really like a lot and they sound uncannily like acoustic instruments.

Depends... i think its great because it has 32 VCOs for the price and analogue filters... BUT i have a kronos and have to say it sounds almost identical to the AL-1 engine of the kronos which is virtual analogue... so what do VCOs give you if they dont sound like VCOs. I think i have to buy a Prophet Rev 2 even though it has DCOs. But it just sounds more like an analogue synth to me. Though decision. What do you guys think about the Prologue?

The sond quality seem very nice, but the more or less total lack of modulation possibilities in soundcreation is rather astonishing. Add to this that you seem to need an degree in C++ to use the digital oscillators to their full ability. It's back to back competitor the REV 2 - though using DCO's, and not having the digital oscillator - have 4 LFO's, 3 envelopes and a 4 track modulation sequencer. For the same price. Demanding 2000 euros for this one, despite it's absolute beauty, seem ... quite a bit out there.

I think moreso they just should have made it even better and charged more. This is just frustratingly inbetween, its in no mans land, for me at least. Its not like it really has the CV implementation to add LFOs and aftertouch and such. I love Korgs analogs thus far, glad they are going big with a lush VCO poly, but it seems like they might as well gone BIG.

I have been researching for an answer and has been hard to find one. Rev2 users complain most on the filter, hard programming and quality of sounds as does not feel like analogue, Prologue users complain about the lack of sequencer and aftertouch but strong points are it does sound like an 80s analogue machine. Rev2 can be upgraded to 16 voices with an expansion card. Your choice has to be based on what do you want to do I guess. I think I will choose the Prologue

Gross movements are easier to control in a stressful environment, such as a live performance. Seems to me that he only uses his whole arm when he's playing at the same time.

I wonder how it’s selling? My guess is not so good. Korg needs to go back to sub $500 poly synths, or Behringer will corner that market.

I A/B'd a minilogue with a prophet 6 and (other than the obvious differences) the difference is surprisingly thin, if not nonexistent, especially when you add some effects that the prophet has already built in. I'd hope and assume the prologue is better than the minilogue.

Oh, you mean a demo of someone showing off how quickly they can flit their hands up and down the keyboard, and call it a demo? Those demos are useless because they almost never showcase the sound of a synth, which is what most people are here to hear. Nobody cares about the "wonderful musicianship" if they're trying to decide on buying a synth because of it's sound. I would rather hear someone like this than have Jordan Rudess show his keyboard chops (as good as they are) on the synth, but that's me.
@metaspherz
@metaspherz 5 жыл бұрын
@@ianwilson7637 I agree. Jordan can make a kid's toy piano sound like a grand. Showcasing the different sounds that I might be capable of producing just requires somebody that showcases some of the presets and maybe a few of his own sound creations.

You’re the kind of guy to go into guitar center and attempt to shred on a guitar for 4 hours aren’t you? No one cares about that. This is a synthesizer. We want to hear sound design and the unique timbres of a synth. This demo showcases that.

Sounds kinda thin and digital to my ears compared to classic analog synths. All the korg stuff does I think, but at this price its just not worth it at all. Compare this to the new Dave smith OB-6 or a classic roland juno and it will sound weak. Might as well just get the behringer deep mind. Its half the price and sounds the same.
