Korg Volca button repair / fix - it's quick and easy. These buttons can stop working if you use them a lot for a long time. This also works for other gear with the same rubber buttons. #korg #volca #button #fix #repair #not #working #func #play #notworking

Thanks for posting this Tony, I am at the point where I need to make these repairs and was struggling to find clear information. Thanks also for your expert guides, they were very useful when I first got into making music

You’re welcome. I was afraid to try this initially but after it happened with a few of mine, I thought I should try it. I’ve done it a few times now and decided to document this one, as the only other video I could find was very hard to follow.

@@TonyHorgan A little update, for general interest and for anyone who might read these comments: I have now performed the same procedure on my Volca Keys, however instead of snipping up some conductive pans I bought a 10ml tube of cunductive paint. The brand was "Bare conductive electrical paint" and so far as I can tell is exactly the same stuff as the [ ] shaped paint blobs on the Volca buttons. Using the paint is not as straightforward as using the conductive pads though and I learned the following lessons: 1) the paint sticks to rubber well enough but it does not always adhere very well to another layer of paint. For that reason, it may be preferable to scrape the original paint off and re-apply the paint entirely, this has do be done gently and with something slightly blunt like a flathead screwdriver, using a scalpel may cut into the rubber button and you wouldn't want that. 2) on my first attempt (when I painted a new layer of paint over the old) the new layer of paint came off the "play" button and stuck fast to the gold contacts beneath meaning the sequencer was stuck in "play" mode. The reason for this is because the new layer of paint did not stick well to the old and it just came straight off after a bit of jamming. 3) by specifically buying a 10ml tube, the nozzle head is (conveniently) sized to create the perfect width bead to apply to the button. The paint is very sticky and if one tries to push it around with a paint brush or other tool one can end up with a rough surface. With the 10ml tube you can just gently lay the bead down and leave it to dry just like caulking around your bath, no need to touch it and it will dry with a smooth finish. Saying that, some of mine ended up a bit rough (because I prodded it by accident) and appear to work, but over time I suspect it will wear out and need doing again (time will tell). I do not advise buying it in a paint pot or a bigger tube as it would be a lot harder to work with than the 10ml tube. 4) some of the screws in my volca keys were glued in (!) it is a real pig to get them out the first time and you have to be very careful and patient. Once they are out though they go back in and out very easily. All in all my conclusions are; if you have very steady hands and can cope well with fiddly/delicate work then use the electrical paint. If not, go for the conductive pads method as described in the video, the electrical paint might yeild a "tidier" finish if done correctly, but the conducitve pads method looks way easier and is probably more robust in the long run. So thats my 2 cents, hope thats useful to someone.

@@Metamerist625 Thanks for that information! It’s hard to find good resources on this subject so it’s nice that we’re sharing our knowledge and experience here :-)

@@Metamerist625 no, you cannot scrape the old paint off unfortunately. I tried and failed and wish I'd bought pads now 😂
@Metamerist625
@Metamerist625 7 ай бұрын
@@CB19087 I simply painted over the old paint! Although on one button, the new paint came off rendering the button always-on and I had to paint it again. It's been fine otherwise and had lots of use since repairs. Glue and pads are probably the way forward for most people, the paint is fiddly to work with. Hope you are able to get the pads method working for you.

@@Metamerist625 did the conductive pads work well?

@@fairyfingers I ended up using conductive paint myself, yes it works well (it is exactly the same stuff as originally on the volca buttons) but I found it a bit tricky to use compared to Tonys method. I have written about it in detail in another comment found above!

Hi whats that cement? What kind of glue? And where is the best place to get those pads from? Thank you
@TonyHorgan
@TonyHorgan 3 ай бұрын
I used “Hunter Solvent Cement” for the glue. www.swelluk.com/kockney-koi-solvent-cement You can get something similar on Amazon or at hardware/DIY stores. I got the pads from Amazon, searching “tv remote conductive pads”

Yes but why? Is there a reason? It's not very common for KZbin videos to have to pick your own playback speed. As for repair. I wish I followed your idea instead of the paint. Jeez what a horrible job

@@CB19087 I speeded it up to fit video length limits of Twitter etc but you would need to pause it at each step anyway, unless I slowed it down to real-time, guessing how long it would take people to complete each step.

Understood 😁 despite the paint being a nightmare, it worked surprisingly well. But I still think the pads are a better idea @@TonyHorgan
