Good overview, I think you nailed it by framing the volca mix as a “performance tool for the live musician” up front. I think the v mix gets misunderstood when people try to compare it to a desktop mixer with a ton of inputs... it’s not trying to be that! The only other mixer I would compare this to is an aira MX-1.

In light of the second editions of the Volca Sample and FM, does Korg have any plans to manufacture a decent audio/clock/midi hub for their volca line? What are people using instead of this frustratingly limited groundloop hum generator? Can people recommend a good basic mixer with six inputs (at least two stereo) and at least one send bus?

Could this power a Behringer model D? Or, even the keystep pro? I already have power for my Drumbrute impact, but if this could power all the other stuff that’s kinda interesting 🧐 (Just had a Google, looks like a no, I think they’re 12v not 9v 😢)

The volca drum is the more capable unit. That said I plan the get the beats just because I want an all analog volca setup.

Hey just a quick add about frying your gear with wrong voltage ; most of the time, synth are protected against high votage/wrong polarity, even my old EX800 from 1984 is protected ; I know that because I work with universal adaptator and I made the mistake several time, by sending 12volts or a wrong polarity to a synth that requires 9volt ; volcas are protected (volca keys did experiment that and he his fine fortunately) ; a friend of mine even used his erebus adaptator (which is 15volt) to power his Mbase for 2month before I noticed...and it works (it requires 9, not 15 !!) and my EX800 can work (badly) while beeing under powered (with 7volt for example) so some gear adapt themselves... but yes, you still have to be careful, their is no way to know if this would fry your gear or not (unless your are an advance electronic engineer with the schematic of your gear) ; great review as always :p Cheers

2 mono + 1 stereo channel? Seems kinda weak to me... why not have 5 channels. The power out and mostly the speaker are not really needed. 5 channels in and some on board effects and it would be interessting. also ther is no L/R balance? The stereo width knob sounded good at 05:30. Nice review none the less :) i wonder how you would compare to the roland go mixer that you also reviewed. or to the loop mixer from maker hart (5stereo channels for less than half $) bastl dude is only mono, so not really an option

tobillusion I agree I could definitely use one more channel on the Volca mixer- But it will be pretty hard to get five channels in and still hold onto the small form factor. ****or you could just buy two of them and have six channels but nonetheless it’s way better than the other mixers do you compare it to,!!!! It has sent a return which in essence is another channel also has high and low cut Filter Which is a close second to having an EQ ! plus it has the capability to midi sync through 8th inch cables and work as a master clock for any other gear you sync to it. Roland go mixer doesn’t do any of that nor does the dude have all that functionality. Not sure about the maker hart but isn’t that a marketed to be a cheap karaoke DJ mixer??? Brilliant video Jade I was wondering when someone was going to make a video using this mixer with something other than Volcas. This is exactly how I use mine .... It gives you some interesting creative options I-am not sure why it’s been overlooked it’s great especially for a live set up.

I mean one huge strength to this, maybe, is being able to use sounds from the FM and do filter sweeps? Right? It has a few other volca specific perks but I struggle to see where this is better than most mixers aside from portability (and there have to be other decent battery powered mixers).

I think the point of it is mostly that it can power the three volcas, mute, mix, sync them, and add external effects. It's not a bad deal for the money. Also: individually filter and master effects. It's a useful little box!

Nice review :) The compressor is a good idea.. i can see that being very useful for sure! As it's not battery powered i can't see the point of it being a power hub for other devices though.. I have one of these My Volts power splitter cables that powers upto 5 volcas... mine is the powerpack version.. but they do one which u can use a usb battery with myvolts.co.uk/product/18811/5-way_power_splitter_cable_for_Korg_Volca_by_MyVolts_(5-way_splitter_+_USB)
