I love the Volca Modulars, I got 4 of them and a kick. I ordered from thonk some proto board pcb's to connect 3 potentiometers and jacks. I am also awaiting the dintribe midi Io pcb's. Then the Volca's will be sequenced by a midibox.

Modular spaghetti cables are one thing; but these teeny Dupont cables are a real PITA. Whats needed is color coded Dupont "snakes". Make them with shrink wrap. Break out the strategically placed bread board(s) and eliminate all alligator clips.
@chriskahn57274 жыл бұрын
Whoa, you just made me realize this could be integrated with a breadboard and Arduino... Unlimited possibilities.

Your attenuator box is a super idea! I don't have a Volca yet but I appreciate your efforts to share these hacks.

When you said 'breadboard' I've emmidietly got the idea to make attenuators and mults really fast and really cheap. I imagine having breadboard is really useful near volca modular. I don't have volca modular.

FYI, the common name for the dial is a potentiometer, if you are searching on Amazon.

Oh, I thought you were talking about a rotary switch and using it to switch between 3 different routings. If it's a potentiometer wouldn't you have more then 3 different sounds? And I assume you use it as a variable resistor and not as a Voltage Divider?
@monotribe65062 жыл бұрын
Good video with some nice ideas, but some of your terminology is a bit confusing for those who are starting out. Calling potentiometers attenuators and switches for example. I know you said you were not an electronic engineer, which I'm not either, but it's good to know a bit about the components your using.

Curious if there's a way to stack these patch/jumper/dupont cables. I considered using the alligator clips creatively but I'm hoping theres a cleaner way.

Amazing video dude! Already ordered a bunch of breadboard switches and DuPont female cables to test stuff out with, thanks! This should work with any Synth that takes these tiny pins (Werkstatt, Kastle, NS1 etc.) even in cross-patching right? Can't wait to test this out, thanks! I'm sure the future of cheap synths is in the Crave/Neutron and such bringing Eurorack patching to the masses, but I love these little cables too much and I hadn't even thought of this!
@immersiveworlds5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it should work with any Dupont type synth.

I have the modular , and this is gold ! I was thinking also in add a midi in .. what you think about that hacking ?
@exitritual5 жыл бұрын
Really interesting. I have a feeling that this'll work well with my Bastl Kastle. Also, I had no idea that the female ends of the Dupont cables fit onto potentiometer pins. Now I've gotta try it out with my Kastle and Field Kit.
@immersiveworlds5 жыл бұрын
It depends on the type of pins, but I have seen some work. The Kastle would be a good candidate for such an experiment.

@@immersiveworlds I'm in the process of setting it all up for a jam now. I'm hoping the one I have running into the Field Kit's 'switch in' will do something also.
@exitritual5 жыл бұрын
@@immersiveworlds It worked; I was able to modify the Kastle's waveshape (just what I chose to modify) with a 100k potentiometer going into the FK's Switch In. The offset on the FK is key, I think.

It's a good inspiring video for novices for sure :) But I've really hoped for some more mature advices... Like how to make a deeper wave folder (which isn't very deep here) or how to make a decent overdrive circuit. How to work with external powered components and etc. BTW, it's better not to experiment with random components too much. I mean that it's better that these will not be that random :)) Especially when it's about electrolitic capacitors (which are polarized usually). I'm not 100% sure that Volca Modular is fully "fool protected" of it's patch points. But you've shown a great example of a knob setup. I have almost the same thing for my proto-synth. It's a long "procrastination project" which is in a "frozen state" now. I've started it after seeing Adamsky videos about VCO, VCA, VCF and etc. I can give a link if it's not easy to find. This man is _very inspiring_ and after his tutorials I've started to dig into the electronic themes. And suddenly it became very interesting... But was a procrastination for me :))) So I've choose an easy way for the moment: to be aware of many things and details but to build as simple as I can to use as quick as possible... To produce good electronic music tracks :)
