Note that unlike arpeggio patterns which are stored in Global data, these RPPR User patterns are stored as part of the song (sequence), which is a good thing in terms of managing your keyboard configuration. Every new song (sequence) starts with a blank set of RPPR User patterns.

Yamaha's pattern mode approach to this is much slicker. Firstly it doesn't use up any keys on your keyboard so you can use different buttons (up to 16) to trigger your various sections, and each section can have all the different riffs layered within them. This frees up the rest of your keyboard for playing your sounds, switching between sounds on the sequencer or setting up your layers and splits like combi mode, with arps etc.

@linn1000 When you use the "Copy from Program" function more than once, you also need to uncheck the IFX. In a Combi, all the programs share the 5 IFX processors as well as the MFX/TFX.

@foxybrown2 You can chain together entire sequences using Cue List, but you can't play the individual elements like you can in RPPR. Cue Mix is like a jukebox for sequences, and RPPR lets you remix within a sequence.
@jwillis3513 жыл бұрын
@LiqMat This has been possible for a while, but especially on the Korg M3. You use the Cue List to insert multi-tracked loops. This links them, and then you can also save the Cue List as a new song, completely connected. RPPR is best for creating patterns that you might want to record in real time. Say you record drums, bass, guitar, keys, and sax, but you want to layer the instruments in with drums starting, then keys and bass, then guitar, then sax.

@linn1000 Yes, this could be done, and yes, you'll need to be in SEQ mode. This really doesn't make a difference, though, because you can always copy your Combi directly into SEQ mode.

How to take this into combi mode
@jwillis3513 жыл бұрын
@debris54 Trust me, I had an old Ensoniq SD-1 32 Voice and I loved it, but it's not even in the BALL PARK with the Korg M3. The Xpanded version of the Korg M3 has to be the best keyboard sequencer I have ever used, and the overall sampling features, recording direct to disk or USB CD/rw or USB stick is amazing, and the new Combi and Program features are vastly improved and way beyond that of anything built in the 80s and 90s. Read Craig Anderton's review of the Korg M3 to get a full look.

Complicated?Not really...not if you're willing to put the necessary time into it.Once you do,you'll become fluent with your ideas and realize how efficient Korg really is. In fact,the only more proficient recording tool than Korg,would be a computer DAW. I used to be intimidated by PC recording software,but I became tired of complaining & decided to take the initiative to get my head around it & after a few months,it was a breeze. With these free Korg tutorials,you have no excuses.

@jwillis I still have a VFX SD, and the upgrade TS-10 .. they are infinitely easier to use as performance sequencers. However, the whole thing is kind of a dead issue, as I am pretty well committed to Ableton Live... as I can program/edit simple midi and have it trigger the M3, there is no point on jumping on another learning curve for me. The sounds in the Ensoniq stuff are unique, and I still use them in the studio.. but 'character' sounds only

Hey, great tutorials. My question is: what would you advice to make a quick "style" like in arrangers that react to chords changes? Rppr, defining your own arps or maybe theres another way to make some songs from the scratch? Maybe some sequencer work?
@debris5414 жыл бұрын
well, I WILL give this a try, (for a short time...) IF it is hip, I will use it, but frankly, my old Ensoniq gear blows the doors off of this, what what I can see... and frankly, that is NOT good... as replacing/fixing it is impossible... so, Rich... can you let me know if there is any way to replicate what Ensoniq came up with many years ago? ..just a simple layout with 6 slots/by6 traks, with a button under each slot to trigger it on/off what could be simpler? doable with RPPR?

Can you, for example: press C (1 beat starts) and when you press D (2 beat starts), so track in C automatically stops and D continues until end? I mean first i want a slow rock, then press the second key and a little hard rock..(but first key should end). Is it possible?, thanks for the videos!!! I've just bought my M50!!!!

This is a bit complicated for me, I'm a newbie with a love for the Korg sound and a tendency to buy way more than I need. So, is there a simple way to record a sound and loop it over and over again? (I'm thinking Baba O'Riley ) ?

@foxybrown215 жыл бұрын
I don't understand what you are talking about. you can do that in the cue list that's the way korg has always done their sequencers. it does glitch until you actually put the patterns in song mode after you have put it in a cue list

This was interesting. I never liked any of Korg's sequencers. And they keep putting the same sequencer in every board. I use my Triton Studio just for sounds. My MPC is my sequencer. I can't believe that the Oasys has the same sequencer. Come on look at the price tag on that thing?
