I'm patting myself on the shoulder right now for the idea to give you different colours, haha! :D It's also super fascinating to see how you go about the flow of a song in two different takes, side by side. I will confess that I did not think about the meaning of this song in the slightest when I picked it. Really just wanted to pick a song that would sound good with Own Little World - the song which held all the meaning for me in that video. Because I wanted to welcome you into my world after being welcomed into yours. I tried a bunch of different tunes but this one just felt the most natural there. I guess that's one of the biggest differences in our art. I choose the music after the art is already recorded. (: All that to say I was so focused on the sound and feel of the song in my video, that I haven't thought about the lyrics and theme of the song until now. xD Some of what you brought up reminds me of the line: "Are we to be held hostage by our tolerance of the intolerant?" (Dark Tranquility - Faithless by default). Really made me think about all that for the first time when I heard it. But that song is pretty obvious in its message. To me, Kill Mercy Within isn't quite as clear. Reading it now, I would relate it more to the mercy I show my self-destructive side. Sometimes I still tolerate it. But I'm working on it and I've gotten much better at killing the mercy I hold for my disregard for my own well being. To me the song is about freeing myself of self harm. Self harm which is often fuelled by being forced to fit a system not built to fit me. All these personal, social and political issues are connected in the end of course. That's what this song means to me I guess. Thank you so much for flowing it and sharing your thoughts!
