Korone wants to teach Japanese to the English viewers, but she's mad that they always know what she wants to teach.

If only she'd said "I am error", could have been an obscure Link's Adventure reference, given how much Korone loves retro games. I get she's frustrated if she didn't know pinwheels are (more or less) universal kids' toys around the world.

@shib5267

not really, the character is an ideogram of a chariot looking from above. In Japanese, historically it took the meaning of wheel, and by extension everything that spins; windmills, for example. en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E8%BB%8A

@SheffiTB
@SheffiTB 4 жыл бұрын
@@ABlob generally kanji have multiple ways to pronounce them depending on context, e.g. you might use one pronunciation when the kanji is used on its own, a different one at the start of the word, a different one at the end of the word, etc. Sometimes different pronunciations of the same kanji can have slightly different meanings, e.g. 女 can be pronounced as "onna" and means woman, or it can be pronounced as "me" and mean female in a more scientific way (like talking about "this tiger is female"), or "jo" which means female when used as a modifier e.g. shoujo (little girl), josei (adult woman), etc. In this case, I'm pretty sure the difference between kaze and kaza is just whether it's part of a longer word or not, but we also see the case here in this video of 風車 being pronounced two different ways and meaning two different things: pronouncing it fuusha means windmill, and pronouncing it kazaguruma means pinwheel. Kanji is weird.
@Cookiedible
@Cookiedible 4 жыл бұрын
@@ABlob Sometimes it's just a matter of phonaesthetics, although i'm not 100% sure it's the case here. If it sounds better or it's easier to pronounce or to understand, words can end up changing pronounciation a little. I know for consonants there is a phenomenon called rendaku, for example 空 is "sora" (sky), but it will become "zora" in 青空 (aozora, blue sky). There might be a similar phenomenon for vowels and it would be interesting to look into it.

If there's one word I want Korone to find and learn, half to hear her pronounce it, and half to see if she understands the significance, would be "onomatopoeia". As in that's like almost kinda sorta not really half of Japanese vocabulary, I kind of wonder if she would make the connection on her own or not if she saw what it meant. But mostly I want to hear her try to pronounce it by sight and then imitate Google-Translate's pronunciation. XD

Poor Korone is upset that we always know what something is before she tells us, but she doesn't realize it's because we know what the prop is. She wants to teach something easy so it's easy to explain, but she also wants to teach us something like we've never heard of it before. It worked out a lot easier when she was trying to teach onomatopoeia words/phrases, since they were harder to explain. Still, I hope she realizes that learning what the word is in Japanese is still very new to a lot of us, so she is in fact teaching us still.

Kazaguruma is made up of 5 sounds, or hiragana, and two seperate "words", or "concepts" as in kanji. The hiragana are: ka-za (かざ) + gu-ru-ma (ぐるま). Kaza means wind, and its kanji is 風 . Guruma (in this case) means wheel or spin, and its kanji is 車 . So kazaguruma = かざぐるま = 風車 = "wind spinner" Hope that helps! Theres a little more going on technically but i tried to keep it clear
@jurajojo2543
@jurajojo2543 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, one kanji can be read with multiple syllables, but Kanji conveys meaning more than the sound (although only specific sounds are usually related to a kanji). On the other hand, there is way too many kanji. Kazaguruma = 風車 kanji for Wind and kanji for Car(often used in machinery) 車 = Kuruma = car 風 = Kaze = wind But both of these have also different pronunciations in different words, and therefore it can be read Fuusha too, changing it meaning slightly.
@Cookiedible
@Cookiedible 4 жыл бұрын
Japanese, Chinese and other languages (you probably know at least a little about how hieroglyphs worked) use ideograms. Ideograms are characters that can be used to convey a specific sound but they also have the specificity of conveying a whole concept, word, or idea (hence ideogram). Other comments above explain better the specifics than i could hope to, but for the general concept of ideogram, you actually use some without realizing even as an english speaker, the difference being that they are not part of the english language. For example a check mark is an ideogram since it is a mere symbol that represents the idea of something being completed. Another example is the crossed off red circle we all know, that by itself conveys the meaning of something being forbidden.
