Unfortunately that's how these things tend to go irl as well. I used to work as an armed security guard and I did residential security. I had to stop abuse multiple times and it was actually more common for the woman to start screaming and insulting me as I was pulling her raging partner off of her than it was for her to be mad at her abuser. It never happened to me personally but I also heard stories from other security guards about them actually being attacked by the woman while they were trying to stop her abuser as well.
