The great thing about this ending and their relationship is that it was built up so subtly that it went right over half of the audiences heads till the end.

Yep. Now everyone who either wasn't paying attention or never fathomed the possibility of a same-sex relationship being developed in a kids cartoon is whining that it was "tacked on out of nowhere" and only done to appease the shippers. Or they're simply in denial about the relationship being real at all, despite the massive amount of symbolism and parallels in that final scene to spell it out for everybody. Obviously there are some people who'll ship anything, and who were shipping Korrasami from Season 1 just for fun. But I firmly believe that by the start of season 3, Bryke had this endgame in mind and started purposely building it up, hence why neither Korra or Asami had any hints of other romantic relationships after breaking up with Mako. The Korrasami ship gaining traction after that point was a result of people noticing what the creators were doing, not the other way around. For those who failed to notice the context clues we were given throughout the last two seasons, that's on them, not Bryke.

AWSMan The way that the series ends, with the two of them walking into the *spirit* world, which I wonder might have been a metaphor for the girl's *souls* beginning their own great journey into the future, holding hands and then turning to gaze into each others eyes before 'The End' sends a clear message that the two of them have have all but officially passed the point of being just good friends and are moving on to become romantically involved. It's all very clever, well written too as we've remarked, but there are other subtleties which allude towards this pairing. The most obvious and quoted, which I'm sure you're aware, is that the final scene is a shot-for-shot remake of The Last Airbender's finale, which also featured a couple mutually moving on to the next stage in their relationship. Another uncanny visual key is that the pose Korra and Asami make at the very end, which is exactly the same as the one which every other couple in the show has made during their most intimate scenes. Kuvira and Baatar make it, Zaheer and P'Li make it and most importantly Varrick and Zhu Li make it during their wedding earlier on in the episode, which features a speech by Bolin containing a description of love as being a 'fickle creature, difficult to find, nearly impossible to tame' and that 'even the longest of long-shots can have a chance at happiness together' as the camera pans across the crowd and centers on Asami and Korra sitting together. The speech perfectly encapsulates the relationships of both couples and I'm surprised nobody has caught onto all of this. Later in the celebration after the wedding there is a hint that Mako might even be giving Korra his support, if you read between the lines. Also Asami tells Korra she wouldn't know what to do with herself if she lost *her* and her *father* in one day. She didn't say anything about Mako, Bolin, or anyone else only Korra. In addition when Asami jokes that *she* could use a vacation suddenly Korra replies saying *"lets* do it". Now there is much more I could cite and I could go into far more detail, but I run the risk of coming off as a 'Korrasami shipper', which is not what I am or ever was, and I doubt anyone will ever really read any of this anyway. I just think its a great show and I found it to be interesting and engrossing, and nicely staged and executed in its implications for the two women's fates. 10/10 will by on Blu-ray.

One more rather meaningful but subtle clue was that in Korra and Asami's final conversation, the mountain range framing the scene is in the exact color scheme of the bisexual flag: pink on top, then purple, then blue. Considering all the other imagery we got surrounding that ending, there's no way that's a coincidence.

i have to admit i got teary eyed when the old women appeared because it hit me: how many lesbians and the whole LGBT community born decades ago when tolerance was at its lowest ever thought they would live in a time when a popular family show would have a strong female lead, the protagonist of the story, be a lesbian and the whole fandom react to it the way it has. even if they couldnt out right have the characters say it the fact they implied it so heavily shows were continuing to change for the better however small and slow it is taking.

I'm pretty sure they're just sisters in spirit. The series ending goes like this. They're trust and loyalty led to them taking a vacation together. It was never implied they were in love. They never kissed or told each other I love you. They held hands. Girls do it all the time with their best friends. It's kind of like Frozen. They have true love, but in a sisterly sort of way. The ending was about being independent but staying close to the ones you care for, not romance.

They would have kissed. The creators knew we were going to assume that and a kiss would have made it official. They already went far enough if that was true so they had may as well gone even further with lip locking, even if it was a peck or an I love you at least. I know a lot of girls that do that, even sisters. It's what girls do. They wouldn't do romance in the end twice. They're smart enough to know what they're doing. And even so, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't pull a move and make two central characters homosexual. They would experiment with a secondary character at least and then go there. Take Dumbledore for example or Ellie. They're not the main protagonist but do play an important role. They didn't make Joel or Harry Gay, just other characters. I just think the sisterhood theme plays here. And neither one can date Mako. That would be destroying the trust that they built throughout the series. I don't think that they're that far into it (not yet at least). But we can't assume until either the creators speak out and say it themselves or when we get the comic.

In the end it doesn't matter whether they are close friends or couple. They still perfectly complement one another. Korra is a powerful bender, avatar and very spiritual, Asami is non-bender, and an absolute genius regarding technology and science. I wouldn't mind that they are still only a best friend, as long as they are together, and jointly solve problems in the world. That's why I was pleased that there was no kiss at the end, it would be premature, because their relationship actually hasn't really started, but was only announced.

I didn't even know Korra and Asami was a thing. I watched the show every week like everyone else, and I never saw anything that seemed to be setting that up as a possibility. I'll have to rewatch the entire season now to see if just missed it. I mean, this is awesome that Nickelodeon let this happen, and it's surely groundbreaking. But narratively, it looks real tacked on, like "Oh, by the way, Korra is bisexual. The end." Where was the set up? I really hope this isn't just something to generate Tweets about Korra being "progressive." Especially since they could have used the time they wasted on that damn clip show episode to set up Korra and Asami instead.

Bill Warren I believe now, that they were deliberately building it up. I saw the subtext, I was even annoyed by it in Book 3 and 4, because I thought they are just fanservicing, without this being actual endgame. I kinda wanted somehow Korra and Bolin (NUKTUK!!!) hooked up, but I generally HATED the romance in LOK. But the overwhelming majority of the fans wanted it to be Korra and Asami... So they did it. I think, since they knew they are moving to Dreamworks (fuckyeah!), they would leave behind something, that would be a milestone. This shit will be headlines, I'm sure.

For me personally the ending felt HALF satisfying. The korra universal has so many characters and story lines to wrap up but instead they have that ending that which took all the focus out of the final episodes. Here are a list of things they should of wrapped up: 1. Korra and her past lives (anag) 2. Korra having a moment with each MAIN character personally (including her parents and polar bear dog) 3. 1. They did wrap that up in S2. Korra lost her connection to all her previous lives, which apparently don't matter at all anymore because ALL the avatar's power suddenly comes from Raava. 2. All of them? There are a SHITTON of main characters, which is one of the bad parts about this show. They introduced so many characters and then left them to rot. 3. It's not just Kai, it's every single character that they ever introduced. Kai IS one of the worst offenders... He was introduced pretty much as a main character in S3, and then cast aside in S4. But it just seems like they kept introducing characters, having them go through 1 or 2 significant changes, and then cast them aside to introduce new characters. Ps: technically they were (fire nation). General Iroh was there with his fire nation army. They just didn't do anything whatsoever except get blown up by Kuvira's right arm.

I like how a lot of people are hating KorrAmi because "she's just suddenly into girls?!?! WTF?!?!?!". Guys, a lot of you need to understand that romance and sexuality are two very fluid things. Just because she dated Mako doesn't mean she couldn't be into girls as well, and even then, she could still be HETERO-SEXUAL and BI-ROMANTIC, as there's often a separation between the two in relationships.
