@@kingkrispy806 notice when Korra spar with Toph she was not in her game and there's no avatar state involved (set aside Toph as legend herself, Korra was clearly not in a good state in terms of fighting). It's been months since Korra got a decent fight. Also, the metal poison just got out from her system but her mental health is still down. It can't be fast cured the next day. Korra can't just get back to her old strong self she needs to rebuild or start from scratch no matter what. ***While Kuvira knew she's at her worst (she was literally Su's guard before so she's quipped with knowledge about her situation) she takes advantage of it that's why she's confident to fight an avatar. I appreciate her so much bec she's using the avatar state as last resort and less headstrong than before especially when she prefer to have peace talk with Kuvira last ep she changed so much.

I think Korra going into the Avatar state shows that she can beat Kuvira, but its her mental state preventing her. Similar to how, Azula was losing to Zuko even tho she was better and how Aang struggled with the thought of fighting Ozai until he was given an alternative that didn’t involve killing someone and going against his beliefs.

Korra has been suffering from poisoning and PTSD for the past 3 years, during which she was so weakened that she needed to learn to walk from scratch. The last 6 months she has been on the road fending for herself despite being so weak, constantly haunted by her demons. It's been less than a day since she even _began_ healing from that. Removing the poison doesn't magically return her to top shape. Kuvira on the other hand is at her peak. Well trained, well rested, well nourished, well equipped, with a confidence boost that in the unlikely case of her still slipping up somehow, she'd be able to find a way to accuse Korra of cheating so her troops can interfere... That fight was over before it began - which is why Kuvira suggested it in the first place.

24:19 "not once did anyone ask Aang to go into the avatar state" but in ATLA season 2 episode 1, the Earth Kingdom general was literally asking him to do that bc he knew Aang was not strong enough to defeat the Fire Nation without it. Also in the finale, Aang couldn't defeat Ozai without the avatar state either Edit: like it was said in the replies, it's true Aang had not trained very much with the other elements at that point so I agree that it was understandable for him, but I also think Korra scarcely training for 3 whole years and barely healing from carrying around poison for all that time after only just getting it out the day before is a comparable situation which makes this episode understandable for her. This was also why Aang was in better physical condition than her in his final fight with Ozai, so it makes sense why he would have been able to kill him without the avatar state if he had chosen to redirect the lightning at him. Also, someone else pointed out that Korra didn't have access to her native element water in this fight so she really only had 3 elements as opposed to Aang's 4 in the finale including his strongest one, air

In season 2 ep 1 Aang mastered Air and didn't yet master Water vs Korra who at this point has mastered all 4 elements and is able to metalbend. In the finale Aang almost killed Ozai when he redirected the lightning but at the last second he aimed away from Ozai. So Aang definitely could have beaten Ozai without avatar state.

@@tjones1145 yes I know, I didn't mean to take away from Aang's abilities since I love him as a character, I just wanted to mention some inconsistencies in their comparisons of Korra with Aang which were very harsh on Korra. Also if Aang is given a pass for not having trained much yet with the other elements (which I agree he should be given), I think Korra should also be given a pass for not having properly trained for 3 whole years and barely starting to heal physically since the poison had only just been taken out of her the day before. As for the finale, Aang was in much better physical condition by that point than Korra was in this fight (his back had a permanent scar but the wound had healed by that point). Also Korra didn't have access to her native element water in this fight so she really only had three elements, which would be like Aang not being able to airbend

I dont have PTSD personally, but I certainly wouldnt call a PTSD victim weak or pathetic, especially since she is still having vivid flashbacks. She really needs mental help, and even with that it can take years, if ever, to deafeat PTSD.

The only reason aang succeed to go into the avatar state was bc of a well placed rock , in other words plot armor . But people will bash korra saying how she is weak compared to aang when she was actively risking her life in every single season bc the writers refused to give her any kind of plot armor B1 she lost her bending to an incredibly talented bloodbender, B2 she got raava ripped out of her in a way no one would have ever expected it, B3 she had to surrender to protect the airbenders (aang did surrender to the fire nation to protect the southern water tribe) and later got poisoned, she then spend 3 whole years with poison in her system and then a few days later was force to fight one of the greatest if not the greatest metal bender of her time while still suffering from ptsd . The only time aang 's life was at risk was when he got shot by lightning and then nearly lost to ozai .I doubt aang would have done a better job than korra given the situation

Korra, Zuko, Azula, and Hama are the only characters in the entire franchise to suffer physical or mental trauma on a realistic basis (Appa counts as well but), the main powerhouses of ATLA who have suffered but never showcase any signs of any sort of trauma such as Roku, Katara, White Lotus, even Aang who just found out his entire nation got taken out in a mass genocide got through his grief in just a few span of days (With the help of Roku in the spirit world), remember these are the same people who raised him for 12 years, played games/pranks with him, trained with him, etc. And if you say Aang does have PTSD throughout book 1-2 HE DOES NOT. What he has shown through book 1-2 is something called *GUILT & SHAME* and book 3 is *depression & anxiety* not PTSD. There is a clear difference.

When you think of the contrast between their journeys it’s understandable. Aang was the avatar that everyone needed and trained while on the job. Korra on the other hand showed that she was a powerful bender from the very beginning and fully accepted the role as the avatar in a world that doesn’t need the avatar like it once did. Aang had to learn to be “Korra” aka powerful while Korra is in the process of learning how to be “aang” aka humble. In my opinion, Korra showing “weakness” is character development.

Compare that to Kyoshi and Roku who were grown adults by the time they had all 4. By book 2 she had a better handle over her avatar state than any other avatar we have ever seen, using it like it was nothing while Roku got stuck in it for days and Aang went into a rampage almost every time he used it. Book 3 Korra was the highest peak of power that any avatar has ever shown. She was able to fly, fight and bend all 4 elements while dying of mercury poisoning. In the finale of Book 4, Korra achieved something that only a spirit older than humanity had before, ripping a hole between worlds. Her growth might not be as noticeable, but that's because Aang went from 10 to 100, while Korra started at around 70. Why do you think every main villain had to either cheat of be absolutely broken?

Korra's head isn't quit in the game yet. Physically, she's more or less recovered; probably some muscle mass loss, though. But notice she isn't fighting like Season One Korra? Season One this girl had no problems stepping up to a three Triad benders, putting them down, and then wrecking their car when they tried to escape. Girl was a one-person wrecking crew. She *enjoyed* fighting as if she was a mother-f'ing Saiyan. (Do Dragonball Z references make me look old?) Now? Season Four Korra doesn't really want to fight. Being a fighter, being The Avatar? It's kinda' lost its charm for her. She's sick of getting the pulp beat out of her, sick of seeing friends get hurt... Sick of being sick of things. She's gonna need help from one last mentor to get through her mental blocks, to help her process the trauma and come out both stronger and wiser.

You just don’t know how PTSD and Trauma workc which the creators of the show do and are portraying it realistically I don’t want to spoil so I won’t go any further. Sometimes people forget that the avatar is human, and Korra while being 17-21 going through the things she’s going through. Every other avatar maybe aside from Aang, her age has barely mastered two element and are starting their avatar training. She’s facing gods at 18, they’re in training camps learning techniques. It’s not like Kuvira herself knew she was rusty and admitted Korra would win if she wasn’t. I wonder how many people can even walk after being poisoned with deadly mercury. Katara literally said the poison caused internal damage to her, and the ptsd is still in effect. Let’s not pretend like this was Korra, the entirety of Korra. She literally was dropping the people who she’s losing to this season, there is a reason for that.

Neither party was allowed to have outside help. It doesn't matter if Kuvira's army was her army and not her friends. They respected the terms of the proposition while Korra's friends did not thus making Kuvira the victor. It should also be noted that her friends themselves accepted the terms as they allowed Korra to fight. It's also important to note that the duel became a fight to the death because Korra turned it into one by trying to kill Kuvira. Kuvira was only interested in beating her non-lethally up until that point.

The bloodbending hold yakone had on aang is way stronger than the one Amon had on korra. The hold yakone had on aang was literally contorting Aang body while Amons hold was just trying to stop korra in her track and he was discombobulated from being hit her airbending. Remember Korra is in a time where people are way advanced. They have machines to do their bidding so it doesn’t even matter if you can’t bend an element. Korra is intervening in civil affairs not world affairs so it can be seen as a nuisance. Back in Aang’s time, he was well needed. It was a world war! The Fire nation was invading kingdoms for a good reason in their eyes (to share their prosperity with the world and turn them into colonies) but was going about it oh so wrong. Everyone was fighting them off especially with seeing how they wiped out the air nation to ensure that the Avatar does not reborn to become a nuisance in ‘their imperial business’. Everyone was happy to see Aang because they saw him as a savior, the hope to end the 100 year long war! However, ‘but, when the world needed him the most he vanished’ which is why some people hated him. Other ppl like the fire nation disliked him due to propaganda and of course, Chin Island at the time also hated the Avatar because they had a grudge against Kyoshi. Otherwise from that they were happy to see Aang. So let me reiterate. Korra was not needed in this era. This was no world war. Even tho this is a situation where the Avatar was needed, Kuvira managed to reunite the earth nation states without her. Korra is now seen as a nuisance in civil affairs that can be handled without her intervention as it has been for the past 3 years. Other ppl need her like the people who believe the earth nation states should be separate so it’s similar to America’s war of independence. So there is going to be Loyalists and Radicals.

Let's start with Kuvira vs Korra, You can't say Korra is pathetic, for starters she has PTSD, second she was in a wheel chair for 6 months to a year. She then wasn't fighting at all for 3 years, and is very rusty. If you stop practicing playing basketball for 3 years, you are going to be very rusty and not as good as you used to be, and third, Kuvira is just very very good, there is a reason she is a General and she is leading her Army. She is very highly skilled at Earth/Metalbending. You guys will see how much Korra grows this season and how she heals and improve. There is a reason this show is called Legend of Korra. She has accomplished more things in 4 years than all the past Avatars in all their life times. Aang was a great Avatar, but hell he couldn't even Fire bend until Zudko taught him, he only knew Air Bending for awhile and it took him awhile to master the other elements with the help of Zudko, Toph and Katara. Korra had 3 elements down by the age of 5. Korra went up against Vaatu, Zaheer, Amon, and Unalock they aren't your average easy villains. Kuvira is such a skilled warrior with her bending and is very deadly. So Korra has the most toughest challenges then any other Avatar.

Here is the thing in the Avatar universe, there are always benders stronger in one particular element than the Avatar. For instance, Ang wouldn’t be able to beat Iroh in a fire bending match and he would be able to beat decent benders in any of the other elements. Same thing with Toph with Earth bending, and Ang’s water bending teacher. So if any of these master can beat any other master of a particular element, it is understandable that Kuvira would be able to beat Korra who has all the elements. That is a good thing to me because that expands the Avatar universe that much more, knowing there are some benders out there so skillful that they can actually beat the Avatar.

This is not true at all. Yes the Avatar might not be as good in one elementh as another master some of the time tho we have seen the oposite, like for instanse Ang has shown to make as big or powerful water moves as Katara and afcorse Ang is a full master in air so he can be on the same level if not beter than other air masters. We have also seen avatars fighting whit no avatar state vs master benders and wining because they are good using all 4 elements to a level of mastery, the whole point of the avatar is that he is a Master of all 4 elements and he travels the wolrd to learn from other masters. Remenmber in the Roku story where he learned from other masters and got stronger than them. Avatars have a much higher sealing in any element that any other benders and they can use all the elements and sub elements on top of that.

I understand where you're coming from for the most part, but that part about Aang being stronger simply because people consistently had to calm him out of the avatar state is just wrong. The reason he had to be talked down so much was because his ability to unleash the avatar state was on a hairpin trigger before he really tried to pull back on it in Book 2, hence the opening episode where he learns more about it. Korra has had almost perfect control of the avatar state since she first connected to it, and the reason people are desperate to see her do it now is because they incorrectly believe it's the only way to end the conflict. They're desperate, and Korra hasn't healed yet; the fight wasn't going to end any other way, that's the simple fact of the matter. She lost disgracefully, but what other choice was there? Just abandon the Metal Clan? Or what, "Just don't have PTSD, fivehead" or something? Or maybe she should have just healed faster. Yeah, I'm sure some good ole willpower will pull that off. C'mon, be reasonable. I don't see how someone recovering from a physically and mentally traumatic event that left them near death is something that reflects poorly on their character.

This show probably has some of the most realistic depictions of mental and physical trauma I've ever seen in animation, because of this season. Korra has a body physically ruined by years of mercury poisoning and horrible PTSD from her treatment at the hands of the Red Lotus on top of the pressure of being the Avatar and being expected to always be ready to save the world. The story would be stupid and make no sense if she just waltzed in and beat everyone in a fight like nothing had happened to her. I wish this show had been around when I was younger. It would have meant a lot to me as a kid struggling with PTSD to see a hero going through it and fighting to survive it like real people do. Korra displays several classic symptoms of mercury poisoning, you can tell the creators were serious about depicting it and how severe it is correctly.

This title kinda aggravates me😭 and I couldn’t watch this reaction when it released because…like come on…she’s not even all that healed. Kuvira knew this wasn’t a ‘fair’ fight either, at the start, she called Korra ‘Rusty’. Korra didn’t even want to fight. Although she’s been the type to want to. She’s being forced to. Korra is too busy fighting the old enemies in her head like Toph highlighted and is not ready to face new opponents because of this. Korra knows she’s not like she used to be and have avoided coming to Republic City to try and get better. She even acknowledged that she might have been going crazy back in Episode 2. Cut Korra some slack jeez. Aang had the past Avatars to rely on and he was mostly guilty about what happened to his people and anxious about going against his morals so when given an alternative instead of ending Ozai he felt more at ease. Plus everyone handles trauma differently. I’m sure Aang went through some shxt but that was off screen most of the time. The writers decided to show Korea’s trauma on screen. Korra here isn’t anxious she’s deadass suffering from PTSD and this can take years before it’s even healed. Even to this day WW2 veterans suffer from PTSD and it’s not their choice. I think the writers did a good job at portraying this. She only has to rely on herself and Raava’s power. Raava doesn’t have the memories of the past avatars knowledge of handling situations so Korra is just on her own. Korra will get over this eventually so it’s not fair to call Korra pathetic because this is not prime Korra and being the Avatar doesn’t mean you’re invincible, they’re still human. At least if you gonna clown Korra at least say she needs psychiatric evaluation. Because she’s clearly not herself at the moment NOT PATHETIC BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW WHAT SHE’S CAPABLE OF!

Guys guys, come onnnnn, Kuvira is one of the cleanest fighters in the ENTIRE SHOW. Even Korra at prime wont have it easy with Kuvira. Her earthbending style is unique. She bobs and weaves like an airbender and her movement flows like a waterbender. She controls and shoots the metal chards like a firebender. She extremely skilled. So Korra not in her prime, having a tough time, is understandable. Even in her prime , without the avatar state would not have it easy defeating her. And technically speaking, being the avatar doesnt mean you have to be the best bender in the world. It just means you are have to master all elements. But there are soo many others who would be better in their elements than you, and thats completely fine. And so an extremely experienced single bender who understands all the bending styles(someone like Iroh ) could have an upper hand on the avatar.

@@x97k8 I maybe playing devil's advocate here, but you can argue if Aang went into the Avatar state he would have the advantage of all his past lives experiences whilst Korra only has her only has herself to rely on in the Avatar state. FYI I'm a huge Korra fan, just making this point for argument sake.

Wanted to point out that when Korra lost against those thieves back in episode 2 season 4 that was kinda pathetic not gonna lie, but this is THEE Kuvira. She’s a badass! So Korra losing against her with the current state she’s in, I’ll accept it with a grain of salt. 🤧 But it’s kinda like Zuko and Azula’s fight. Azula is waaaaaaaaay better than Zuko and for her to be losing against her showed that her mental state was inhibiting her from fighting as she normally could.

I never liked this episode. Five episodes of buildup only for Korra to job like a chump AGAIN. Granted, Kuvira had three years to prepare for this fight that she almost certainly knew was coming, but that hallucination was bullshit.

Well in all fairness, I think one of the main points of the korra show is that korra's identity and status are constantly being challenged and broken before her eyes and she needs to learn to find value in herself despite that. This is an example where her combat and bending ability is lackluster and it forces her to question whether or not it's worth trying to be the avatar again. I think this is a crucial point of the season where Korra has to pick herself back up after a fall and not judge herself so harshly for not living up to expectations. That's why it's so painful to watch, because it's a physical and psychological disgrace upon her expectations for herself.

I'm kind of annoyed by this fight because even with her avatar state crippled, she has years of fighting experience by the greatest masters in all the elements, she might not have the power but she has the technique. But all she does here is punch and kick. We've seen way more intricate moves from her throughout the series. Those were a part of her, her survival skills, her reactions, everything. It's just kind of annoying that they nerfed her in such a lazy way. They could have made her slower because this kind of thing makes you more lethargic, or made her anxiety trip up her hands by making them shake and having her try to regain composure and make her second guess herself, but this was all they could do and it's so lazy. I just feel like they did her dirty, they could have shown it in a much better way and they chose to cop-out in the most simplistic way

I am aware of the effects of PTSD, all I'm pointing out is that there is more room for visual storytelling in the animation in the fight before the avatar state. I just wanted to see a few more subtle details from them is all, just to show us what Korra is going through a little more. I wasn't dunking on Korra as a person or as a character, what she's going through is A LOT. I'm more just griping that the writers couldn't add a little more visual representation. And with Kuvira being as cunning as she was, it could have been a good way to show kuvira exploiting these little details a little more. I just wanted something a little more clever than what we got.

For the third time, I'm not belittling her PTSD. I'm offering a suggestion for the writers. All I said was they could add a little more small details to add more flavor to the story and the scene. I'm not attacking or belittling your show, I quite enjoy the Legend of Korra myself. I'm just offering some constructive criticism on the visual element, to add a little extra layer of depth. That's all.

Oh one more, thing you guys forgot, she lost her connection to past Avatars and how they were able to fight and she can't get guidance from them. Even Aang isn't there for her anymore. She has to do this all on her own. Everything you see from Season 3 and 4 is all her, with no help. All the past Avatars had help and had their hand held to overcome villains and challenges. We never seen a skilled Earthbender/Metal bender like Kuvira before, since Toph. So yeah, you are just hating on Korra too much.

I know it looks bad, but Korra not only has PTSD, but also has been out for 3 years trying to recover. She's fizically weak, they animated her thiner, she's not as muscular as before. I undersand why she lost against Kuvira, given what she's been through the last 3 years
