One of best interviews by Crossy that I have listened to so far. Kris's knowledge is immense plus he is a great entertainer. Made me laugh out loud so many times. Thanks guys

Fantastic interview. Happy to see Kris is still in good shape. As a 50+ Master rower, almost 30 years later, I'm still applying what he coached us (clean catch, black puddles, legs-back, keep pushing to the finish, let the boat slide under you in the recover). Mostly U2 these days.

Kris: "I was total barbarian" Yes! It was survival of the fittest. "Natural selection" would Kris say if someone got injured or over-trained. My peak performance was at KHB: won the LM2-, LM4- and LM8+ at KHB (in track record times). Kris was not happy we raced the pair without his permission: preliminary was a walk in the park but final A was only two hours before the eight. :) Got burned-out during the seat races two weeks later (won them all but could not sleep well for a week afterwards while training continued). Didn't perform at my best during the training camp at Princeton and the World Championships. I was moving like a piece of wood because my back was so stiff and could not do full slide last 500m while the final sprint used to be my weapon earlier that season. Take time/pace down to recover is one of the lessons I learned at the School of Hard-Knocks.

I am surprised the gearing was never mentioned, it certainly has a big influence on speed and stroke rate and even technique
