Kosem lost 7 children irl: -Sehzade Mehmed was executed. -Sehzade Selim(according to some sources was her son)died as infant, during the reign of Ahmed I. -Sehzade Orhan(according to some sources was her son),also died as infant. -Sehzade Kasim was executed. -Murad IV died of cirrchosis. -Ibrahim I was executed. -Hanzade Sultana, died 1 year before Kosem was executed. She was her favorite daughter. Kosem also witnessed the death of her grandchildren(all sons of Murad IV and some of his daughters, and some children of Ibrahim I) Only Ayse and Fatma(from her children) outlived her.

@@playersoker8205 Actually Sehzade Suleiman wasn't Kosem's son. He was son of unknown concubine. He wasn't neither son of Mahfiruze too. He was born in 1615,the same year as Ibrahim,so it's impossible for Kosem to be his mother and he was executed in 1635 with Bayezid, which proves that he was Murad's half brother.

Yes no mad with all her loss she became mad... All her life she had ( at least for the two regency) she sacrifice a lot of her happiness for the well of all as she was a women of a duty. But the loss plus all the unfair critical make her like this. I think on her own way it was a "benediction" she was murder because it would be great risk to oulive her favorite grandaughter Kaya and her daughter Ayse ( as they die soon after their deaths 5 years later I think).

Kosem sultan was a woman who lived the cruelty of the world. She was kidnapped from her family when she was at least 13 years old, she lived the executions of her 3 sons (Mehmet, Kasim, Suleiman) from their own brothers ( Osman and Murad), his son Murad died from cirrhosis and her last son Ibrahim committed terrible crimes and he sentenced to death.( in real life Ibrahim would execute even if Kosem wouldn't agree).

The last member of sultanate of women, emetullah Rabia gulnus will teach you some lessons. The last powerful haseki and valide. There should be at least 2 mini series. One before Kosem, and one after Kosem's era. The one should be about Mihrimah as Valide,Nurbanu as Valide and Safiye as Haseki and their conflict,Safiye as Valide and her conflict with Handan and Halime. Then after Kosem's show about Turhan as Valide and Gulnus as Haseki, and Dilashub,Gulnus,Saliha and Shehsuvar as Valides, and Rabia as the last haseki. Also it should included the hasekis of Ibrahim I (Muazzez, Ayse, Mahienver, and others). Especially Muazzez, since she wasn't Valide, as she died before Ahmed ascended the throne. Maybe then the Kosem show wouldn't be so bad.

@@draganagavric4944 Turhan and Gulnus too deserved their own season. I also think that Halime and Saliha should be included, because they made their sons sultans somehow,by forming alliances, supporting financially the riots, and etc. Also they acted against powerful Valides, like Safiye and Gulnus. Ayse also acted against Kosem, but not like Halime and Saliha. And Handan, who was first female regent and very was very important. They did the biggest injustice to Handan and Ayse,in the series. I don't get what was the writers idea they wasted too much time on fictional characters like Gulbahar, Iskender, Sinan, Farya and etc, and original characters like Handan, Mahfiruze and Ayse were butchered. They wanted harem drama, which happened during the reigns of Selim II,Murad III, Mehmed III and Ibrahim I, but they showed that on the reign of Suleyman I and Murad IV. Tottaly opposite.

Kosem no have a choice. In fact if she didn't execute her son it would be a more painful death for him . The fate of Ibrahim was sealed. And contrary to what the show said or the people wanted Ibrahim out, in reality everyone wanted him dead for all his cruauty, his madness.... Kosem had no choice and had to obey the law. Of all the rulers ottoman ( more precisely a regent in her case) she had more reason to execute her son and it was very legal. But unlike theses Sultans who killed their son she was very critized very highly because she was a women. It seems that historical she see Ibrahim execution. Unlike Suleiman she need a hug and support but she didn't have instead it seems that her ennemy who want Ibrahim dead made her a scapegoat as a bad mother who want only power which it was wrong ( at least historicaly for her two regency). I mean historically she was faithful to Murad even when he started to make a fratricide ( they always argued because they have similar personnalities and they want different state member) but she never try to take his power. It seems that it is the same for Ibrahim ( first she try to find a doctor for his headache and we see through letters that Ibrahim received some education and moved in the markets to learn his trade, not the attitude of a woman who wants 100% power for her and nothing for her son). But no she is see as a tyrant. Point interesting when Suleiman became an unbearable man and make a declin of the Ottoman Empire both in the show and history he was however seen as it was normal because the "poor man" had too many tragedies (even if he was the main actor of this and the first to blame is himself for his "misfortune" as he was very selfish, etc...) and it was surely Hurrem's fault for the contemporary ( mysogin way). He therefore needs moral support ( I won't even talk about Murad III and Mehmed III they can be very worst but they were not critized as Kosem) for the same people and he is be complained and a victim though (well I'm exaggerating a bit because a poetess named Nisa or Nysa violently criticized Suleiman when he was alive for the execution of Mustafa and the pain he caused Mahidevran however I didn't like the fact that she called Hurrem a witch it was sexist) . Even in the end Mihrimah still loyal to him ( when Atike reject her mother but let's be honest Atike is so stupid that is not a surprise). Kosem her , her tragedy were very independant of her character unlike Suleiman no matter she was reasonable and wise until she male a third regency (even if she was not perfect or a Saint let's be honest I already told her faults) and in the end became an unbearable because plus of the tragedy she was a scapegoat she was see as a Devil and a tyrant . Thank for the double standarts.

That's true. The series is wrong really,Ibrahim irl was more horrible and people wanted him to be executed. Interesting fact is that Murad IV also thought that the decline of the empire started with Suleyman I,so that's why he consider Selim I as his role model. I always found parallel between Catherine the Great and Kosem Sultan. And Paul I is something mixture of show version of Ibrahim I(but of course not like him)and Murad IV, and Alexander I- Mehmed IV. @@drfhgs428 Murad IV wasn't wrong Suleiman was one of the cause of the decline ( even if it Hurrem had nothing to do with this unlike some said Suleiman make too much useless conquest didn't want to achieve the plan of his father, was a true selfish as it was dangerous to make a lot of sons to one women wit hthe fracidal law, etc...). Sky told all the reasons why the Ottoman Empire fall and it had nothing to do with womens. I don't find a lot of parrellel between Catherine the Great and Kosem even if they were clever womens ( one was a ruler antoher "only" a regent) as Kosem never 'stole' the power of her sons unlike Catherine,etc.. . I find more a parralel to Kosem with queen Brunehilde of Austrasia . That's why all his conquests were smart d had seen this kind of problem coming and decided to make a kind of "Suez Canal" to circumvent all these problems from where his conquests was only smart, if you see the territory in his reign. Besides, we can see from the map that it is the aspects towards the sea that mainly interest him. Suleiman did not choose this path and in addition made unnecessary conquests over Europe and the Habsburgs - which in the process increased poverty - therefore more expensive and useless.
