Think about how dangerous it would be to do this in a helicopter. Now think about how ridiculously dangerous it would be to do this with a pre-programmed robotic device at a distance where the turnaround time for any signal is 4+ hours. I don't think this will happen until we have humans in Titan orbit to oversee operations without that delay.

I actually wondered the exact same thing the other day. The theory was that we could combust all of that methane into water and carbon dioxide. After discussing with some others, we would need an infeasibly large amount of oxygen. We could, in theory, release oxygen into Titan’s atmosphere by drilling up the metal oxide minerals in its crust, but this could take centuries.

Sorry to nitpick, but the views of Saturn in the sky are not possible, because a) Titan's orbital inclination is 0.3 degrees, meaning the rings would be pretty much edge-on all the time and b) Titan's atmospheric soup is so thick, you would probably not be able to see the Sun, let alone Saturn, ever.

1. It's Saturn, not Jupiter, but I'm sure that was just a brainfart :P 2. Hey! I got a question. Since we know that the Saturnian moon Titan has essentially flowing rivers and rains, and lakes, of what is essentially Zippo lighter fluid (hydrocarbons) and Everclear, just what types of sub-zero dinosaurs created all that? :)
@jasontoddman7265
@jasontoddman7265 Жыл бұрын
All fossil fuels are made from hydrocarbons. However, not all hydrocarbons come from fossil fuels. You can have ethane and methane come from non-biological sources. Just as diamonds (pure carbon) are not necessarily formed from such fossil fuels either. Therefore, there are probably no sub-zero dinosaurs responsible for forming those hydrocarbon lakes on Titan. But wouldn't it be cool if we found some anyway? 😁

Hi @Kosmo_off . I love your videos. I'm just watching this and wanted to point out that at 3:43 you say hydrogen, but the image shows nitrogen. But more importantly, at 4:13 you say "dissolved organic matter", but organic specifically refers to an amalgamation of that which was (or is) a living organism (hence organic). I think the distinction is significant in this context.
@cragrock
@cragrock Жыл бұрын
Pretty sure "dissolved organic matter" is a shortened meaning of "dissolved matter that results from organic chemistry" but I'm just as pretty sure you knew that already (if you didn't, use Google, the distinction is right there)

And "more inportantly" if you have taken the time to post, then you know full well that titan is 95% nitrogen in the atmosphere. It's good to be right, but it's more right to be good. (And not a smart ass. Anyone can make a mistake)

Unfortunately it doesn't look like this IRL. 1. You can't see Saturn through Titan's thick atmosphere 2. If you could, you'd barely see the rings because Titan 's orbit is nearly edge-on with them.

@@1DTL no, we just had Cassini flyby (and analyze Titan's atmospheric composition) several hundred times, and landed a probe with various instruments on Titan's surface, and we got a ton of publicly available data back, but what do I know, right?

Where did you get the footage from? I really need it for my school project but I can’t seem to find any footage of titan online. Thanks.

I wonder if they could bring some water and test for any signs of life. There's a high probability that there's life out there but our galaxies are too far away to communicate with each other

There is water all over on and in Titan in the form of ice. In fact it's so cold, water ice behaves like rocks.
